thecandlespastore Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 Let's hope that by morning I can remove these two utensils from the batter shall we:laugh2:Cause right now they are not budging. Quote
Hibiscus Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007  wonder what that's all about..... Quote
thecandlespastore Posted January 8, 2007 Author Posted January 8, 2007 I am going to take a picture now. It turned out wonderful, rich honey color, and same thickness as honey:yay: Quote
Hibiscus Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 :yay: good for you! Everybody has to know by now just how much I love making LS! Quote
thecandlespastore Posted January 8, 2007 Author Posted January 8, 2007 Do you neutralize yours with a borax solution? I loved the consistency of mine before the borax, but after I added it it got a little too thick for my liking, and formed a skin at the top. I am boiling more water now to add to it. Quote
thecandlespastore Posted January 8, 2007 Author Posted January 8, 2007 You can see where I pushed that skin aside:I added another 10 oz or of boiled water. Still thick as honey. Lathers like a charm, and soapcalc says my recipe is 72 on the conditioning scale with 22 for bubbles. So I am pleased. Maybe I wont need lotion after my showers. Quote
Bunny Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Looks fantastic!!!! Mine is the same color, but has no bubbles, even though it was a 25 in soapcalc! ARGH! Wishing you lots of luck! Quote
thecandlespastore Posted January 8, 2007 Author Posted January 8, 2007 Thanks Bunny:grin2:PS, I used a lot of Canola, just enough coconut so that it would not end up runny, 5% Babassu, 5% Castor, and added Olive. Quote
Tara Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Looks great!! Mine is the same color as well --maybe a little lighter in color and it's on the thick side but I like it be more like a gel which it is. Quote

thecandlespastore Posted January 9, 2007 Author Posted January 9, 2007 I added even more water. Now its just right, still very thick but nice. I am hopping in the bath with it right now:yay:Thanks for the support ladies:grin2:The bubble test: Quote
Hibiscus Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 looks nice. I read that when you use a high percentage of soft oils the soap will form a skin. I do neutralize with borax and it becomes a gel which I like. I also use shredded soap for a thicker opaque soap and I don't neutralize that, it's my way of super fatting. With both I don't need a lotion after but I'm addicted to lotion :highfive: Quote
Carriegsxr6 Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 okay now i totally want to make liquid soap. my sister wont use my bar soap because she is hooked on liquid soap. where can i find the best directions on how to make it? millers site?? Quote
Scented Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 This so has me intrigued, but I'm thinking it would be way over my head too. Quote
thecandlespastore Posted January 9, 2007 Author Posted January 9, 2007 I followed his directions here, but used my own recipe. http://candleandsoap.about.com/od/liquidsoap/ss/basicliquidsoap.htmThe skin is gone too, I just had to let it sit undisturbed (you know how hard that is to do) for a few hours. Used that technique with my own recipe. And I know what you mean about leaving it undisturbed...it's sooo hard. Quote
SoapDiva Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Do you have to use Borax? I don't like the idea of using it, besides I don't think I can get it easily here. Is there something else I can use to neutralize it? Quote

Is there something else I can use to neutralize it?You can also use Citric Acid but I haven't tried that yet. I have the book on liquid soaps and it says you can use either or but that Borax is chosen over the citric acid because it will also thicken your soap. Quote
SoapInTheCity Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 I had no idea you could do this! I'm super confused but really curious about this! I just figured liquid soap was something big soap companies could only do.....with their big machinery and stuff. I don't get out much! Quote

It is a very interesting process and the end result is oh so nice just like CP soaps Quote
