ah-soy
I am sooo bad at blending colors. I've been trying all afternoon to get a nice chilli pepper color...not bright red,but well...chilli pepper color So far I've created a lovely eggplant, rosewood, sickly pink and pukey brown. I have all colors of liquid dye...any color experts out there?
jillgunter
Did you try adding a little black color to the red?
grandmaskitchen
When I want a deep, dark, red color, I usually add a few drops of black liquid dye.
ah-soy
Well, I certainly should have thought of adding black! Thanks both for being smarter than me!

Henryk
A good trick: Add a bit of a GOOD brown. It deepens the color without making it look dingy like black usually does. (JMO). Adding brown will give you those classic deep "prim" type colors.

Sherl
I have found brown to be a better modifier than black with any color. I use black very lightly to darken a color to a deeper shade.
Kelly
You also may want to start with an red-orange color instead of using only red. It might work to take a reddish orange and then add black (or possibly brown). I wish they had a font color representing what I mean, like this: but even more reddish and only add tiny little drops (from a skewer or toothpick) of black.HTH and doesn't make things worse!
