scntdwik
Everyone says to heat my jars to get rid of the wet spots but how in the heck does your wick stay hot glue'd to the bottom when you pour hot wax in a jar that is now warm???Heated the jars for about 5 minutes, hot glued the wicks down and when pouring the wax into the jars, the wicks came unstuck from the bottom. What am I doing wrong? Crafty1_AJ
I use wick tabs, and even after preheating my jars and pouring the hot wax into them, they do not come off.I think others have found silicone (?) to work better than glue guns. Hopefully they will chime in here in a bit for you!
Bev
I use household silicone to hold my wick tabs in place. Once that stuff is cured, the wick isn't going anywhere!
7Angela7
I use wick stickums and don't have any problems. When I used glue, they did unstick sometimes.
MuskokaMom
Glue ALWAYS unstuck for me. Switched to stickums and no problems!!
scntdwik
So preheat the jar and then stick the stick em in?Or are you preheating the jar with the stick em and wick already in it?
AngelaVA
So preheat the jar and then stick the stick em in?Or are you preheating the jar with the stick em and wick already in it?You can do it either way. But if you wick and then heat, don't heat for too long or the wax coating will melt off the wick. The jars don't need to be hot either, just warm, so you should be fine to prewick as long as you don't forget them in the oven, lol - I've done that many times before and it's a pain to redo. I use stickums and silicone too. The silicone is great because it will not come loose. However, it needs to cure for a little while, so if I'm pouring last minute I'll use the stickums. Stickums are nice and easy, so I would definitely recommend those. I get mine at BC.
Jane42
Wick Stickums a must...I came here with the same question not long ago (we were using a hot glue gun or glue dots) and our wicks were a-floating!!! I was given the same advice. I never did try the silicone, so I can't comment on that.I would try the Stickums. If you are using the 15mm tabs, I may have some I could send you to try. scntdwik
I am using the wick stick ems from Peaks and they are not working by either sticking all the jars the day before and letting them sit or sticking them and then preheating... Crafty1_AJ
Someone asked (few posts back) if you put the stickums in before or after preheating. I wick my jars with stickums BEFORE preheating. I set my oven to 150 degrees, the lowest setting, for a few seconds -- about one minute. Then I turn off my oven and pop the jars in. The oven doesn't get all the way to 150 because I don't let it heat all the way up. This works great and doesn't melt all the wax off my wicks since the oven doesn't get all the way to 150. Sounds like some others wick after preheating, but I'm way too klutzy for that maneuver ... my jars would be stone cold by the time I got done.
