Citronella

I live in Northern Ontario and I want to make citronella bug repellant candles. I want to do them with soy so that they are non toxic and can be burned in the motorhome. Is this possible. Anyone have any suggestions

I think you have to burn citronella in a ventilated area. Like outside. I don't think it would be a great idea for indoors, especially a motor home. Plus it smells really really bad. You could use Lemongrass for the same effect, and not the stink.

Get some of A Garden's Eastward's Bug Buster essential oil blend. It works better than plain citronella and smells MUCH better. You can burn it in the house, no problem and the good thing about it is you can wick it like a normal candle........you don't need a big honking wick!! :D I've used it for the past 6 years in candles, lotion bars, lotion and CP soap and LOVE this stuff. It's strong, so you only need about 1/2 to 3/4 oz./lb even in all soy!!

Here's the link http://addy.com/brinkley/index.html

but I couldn't find an eo or fo called "bugbusters" ?

I found it, you can find it under the essential oil blend. This is what they say their ingredients are:

Sweet Basil, Citronella, Eucalyptus, Lemongrass, Lavender*

Description:

Not your usual evil-smelling insect repellent. These eo's all have bug-repelling properties and in the right combination make a delightful scent for humans but not for bugs.*

Thanks for the links. I think I will try it.

To Talie, I am in Sault Ste. Marie. I don't think I am set up right in this forum as I seem to have some limitations. I will try and fix that. I am new here so I am still learning my way around. You are correct about not many of us around. I had to start making my own soy candles because no one else around here made them or even heard about them. I am having alot of fun with this.
