Veronica
I'm trying to make a rainbow candle for a customer. When I try to make orange, or purple it looks good when I dip it but when I carve you can see where I dipped it in yellow/red to make the orange. I dipped in yellow/water bath, then in red/water. Should I not dip it in the water before dipping in between the colors? It doesn't look as bad in the photo as it does for real!

BruceCarvesWax
Pigments are what you use, right ??? I get a nice mixing of colors with dyes and you cant see the 2 seperate colors as much with the dyes. They just blend together since dye is more see thru and pigments are just particles floating around in the wax you cant see thru them as well. I made a rainbow candle once and it came out ok, but I seperated all the colors with just one coat of white. HTH Bruce
Veronica
Thank you Bruce....I didn't even think about that. I switched to dyes about a month ago but am still using the same wax so there is still pigments in it and I'm sure I did stir up the wax (habit now). I did two dips of clear between the colors because my customer didn't want the white between the colors. If I have time tonight I'll try it both ways and post pics.Thank You
BruceCarvesWax
I dont know if the clear will do anything good for you. If I want Pink, I dip one red then 4 clear and when you cut into the candle you will just see a band of pink not red and clear. I still think I would put one white between your colors and see how it looks, there is no other way to keep all the colors from mixing into one wide blob. Veronica
It's hard to tell by the photo, but all the colors of the rainbow are there. Thank you Bruce

Deb
I have to say...your second candle is fantastic! I see the rainbow in it! The first one was great, but didn't remind me of a rainbow like the first one does.

Craft only?Fill me in.Right now I'm only doing a few local craft shows a year. I just started doing this part time almost a year ago, I work a full time job too. I haven't thought much about retail or wholesale. They don't seem to sell to well so far except around Christmas time.
