shirah
Hi Stephanie,I have several recipes I'll be glad to share with you, most are Shea Butter Body Mousse since that's the butter I like most. I haven't had time to try them all so can't promise the quality of the recipe, but if you'd like them, be glad to post.:tiptoe:

shirah
Haven't tried this one yet... please let me know if it works for you. Grapefruit EO would probably be a nice sub. I'll got through my other recipes and post more later.Shea Lemon Mousse20 oz. Shea Butter2 oz. Jojoba Oil3 T Lemon EO2 T Vanilla or Coconut OilWeigh butter and oil in metal bowl. Do not heat or melt. Begin blending with a hand mixer until light & fluffy. Add EO and continue to whip until well incorporated. Dollop into 4 oz jars. Makes 8 jars. daniedb
Check it out! Found it at soapnuts.com - I wonder how the texture is different than a lotion: I'm going to have to try it:Micki's Hand & Body MousseFor 9 - 4oz. Jars:8.82 oz. Olive Oil2.2 oz. Sweet Almond Oil2.2 oz. Jojoba Oil.75 oz. Castor Oil.75 oz. Cocoa Butter3.53 oz. Beeswax15.5 oz. Distilled Water.35 oz. Borax.53 oz. Veg. Glycerin1.6 tsp. FragranceHeat oils and water mixture in seperate pans to 160*Put oils in mixer bowl and go round slowly while drizzeling water mixtureinto it.Continue beating slowly till begins to thicken (10-15 min)Up the speed a notch (or two if it does'nt splash).Continue beating and scraping sides if necessary till thicker, like mediumweight lotion.Add fragrance and beat on med/high till lukewarm.Pour/Spoon into jars. This one melts quickley into your skin and is especially nice in the winterwhen a heavier moisturizer is needed I've got some jars from last June that are still perfect...if you areconcerned about spoilage. singleyellowrose
I'd be careful with that last one. Since it contains oils AND water it needs a preservative. Just cuz you can't physically "see" anything growing, doesn't mean it is not there!
daniedb
Oh, duh. I didn't even check to see if it had a preservative listed. I just always assume that people *know* to add a preserv. if it's an emulsion...we all know what assuming does.
donna4909
IMO, a mousse is just lotion that is whipped forever until it is ultra light and airy. But keep in mind that just like a whipped scrub, it can deflate. I'm a soybean lover, so I use:12% soybean oil 73% water 5% hydrovance (or you can sub glycerin) 5% e-wax 3% stearic acid 1% FO 1% preservativeFolow standard lotion making steps, then just whip in a stand mixer until fluffy.I've never tried butter in a mousse, but I may give it a shot. Will probably lower stearic & soybean, and add in some shea.
gloworm
I'm lousy at math-how much preservative would you add the the Mickis Body Mousse? Phenopip OK? Borax as in 20 mule team??Glo
maryann
I'm lousy at math-how much preservative would you add the the Mickis Body Mousse? Phenopip OK? Borax as in 20 mule team??GloYou can use .5-1% of phenonip. I took all the butters and oils (I included bw and glycerin) and added together. If you want to use .5% or .005 then it would be .1 oz phenonip. If you want to use 1% or .01 then it would be .2 oz (I rounded up, I really got .19). Since it shouldn't come in contact with alot of water, so I would lean towards .5%. If I've figured wrong don't be shy let me know .
daniedb
Glo - I wouldn't even bother with the borax. Just leave it out, unless you lerve borax in your lotions. There's really not much that it does, besides (I *think*) provide some softening properties - and for some reason, I want to say it can help tweak the pH a tiny bit, but don't quote me on that. I just don't like borax in lotion, so when I try this, I'm just going to ignore that part.

devlee
I think you have to have the borax in there. Since there is no emulsifier like e-wax included, the emulisification system is beeswax/borax. Without the borax you'll have separation problems.devlee:)

daniedb
Dang it. I really need to start reading closer. I could have *sworn* that I saw e-wax in there. Crud. Sorry...I'm just skimming too fast, I need to start being more careful.
