dustinryan2010
I’ve been conducting burn tests on a 2.75 inch diameter jar, using 4 hour intervals. Should I be doing 3 hour intervals instead? What’s everyone’s general ruling on burn times for testing, according to container diameter?
Kevin Fischer
You'll probably get decent results with a 3 hour interval test, but it'll take you longer to finish the testing phase 😀 I've always done 4-hour all the way down (when things go well) and a long-burn of the same candle a few times... that one can be upwards of 10 hours or more.
TallTayl
Typically, it takes three different tests to sign off on a candle success: 1) by the book of 1 hour per inch in diameter, trimming wicks as advised. 2) random burn times and random trims 3) power burn with no wick trim.
ErronB
I only burn the first time for between 3 and 4 hours, then the rest I'll do short and very long burns. Pretty much what a regular person would do with it. Then my final test is to burn the entire candle without trimming the wick (not the whole candle at once, in intervals). I have to be able to pick it up at any time during the burn without burning my hand. That one is hard for me to pass, but I get there after some serious work.
