JimC
What is the cause of the fuel like smell when burning some candles with certain fragrance oils?
Shannon WY
That's a common problem with citrus-based FO's. I've heard that you can try adding a little vanilla to tone it down but haven't actually tried it myself.
Tara
adding just a tad of vanilla to citrus fo's does work
RobinInOR
I've been told before that some terpenes that you find in mints, citrus, some pines that cause the fuel smell.
The_Dallas_Texas_Dean
I have never noticed this with any FOs but I have read it several times.Do you notice it when you are adding the FO or when it is burning? Cold throw also?
Kaybee23
I notice it when burning. I think I have only had one that I have noticed it in, and that was the Wild Cherry.
Trish
I only notice it when burning too and sometimes it's really dissapointing because the cold throw is so awesome. For me, it's usually citrus scents, mostly the oranges.
Scented
Only when it's burning, but odd. Med Fig tends to burn a little fuelly, but if you don't wick it and melt, it doesn't.
Fire and Ice
This is an interesting topic and I have heard time and time again about fuel smell with citrus scents but I pour and Orange Cinnamon and Sage Lemon Grass and haven't smelled a fuel scent. My testers have never commented on a fuel smell although one customer did and I immediately replaced the candle with something else of his choice. I also pour Med Fig and have not smelled anything funky thus far. It's a good seller for me. No complaint YET! But then, it might be that because I smoke, I don't pick it up like a non smoker might. jenniejr
I had the same problem once ..... it was with mango papaya. I use alot of other citrus scents and never have a problem with any of them. Just the mango papaya ...... and only when it's burning.
ally
I have the fuel smell with the Mango-Papaya with the first burn, but after I put it out and relite it later, no problems.ally
Shala
I had a fuel smell with Lemon Pound Cake. The cold throw was to die for but you could really smell the fuel when it was burning.
