QTsmum
I think my melter is killing my scents! I made a ton of melts this weekend. I took extra care to ensure the temp was hot enough going from presto pot to my mixing pot without dropping too much, stirred a ton, did everything I could. I've been testing some melts and got a really poor result from my blueberry one. It literally burnt out after 2 hours. I was so sad. Then I tested another scent and it burnt out after 4 hours. I've had testers tell me that some scents lasted days (I've honestly never gotten THAT in my home!!)...So I went and bought a warmer from Michaels. I put the blueberry in and it burnt for 2 hours before we went to bed. I turned it back on this morning and it's already been on for an hour and smells as good as it did when I first lit 'er up yesterday! My warmer is a big square one from candlewarmers. I read someone else's post on here regarding the same warmers burning through their melts quickly. I typically sell them along side my stuff at the few fairs I've done and now I'm questioning whether I should even be doing that!! I don't have a non-square one from them to test in at the moment. I wonder how many melts I've axed for short length that were actually ok??!I also burned a Scent*y melt the other day (I've had them since before my melt making days) and it was waxy smelling within like 4 hours too!! QTsmum
Ok, so this exact same blueberry melt has been going for just over 12 hours now. It is light, but still blueberry and not the burnt wax smell! Has anyone had issues like this with warmers before? That's not a little difference and DH was the one who declared yesterday's dead, not me! He wasn't even in the house when I poured!
justajesuschick
Yes. I got rid of all of my combo/plate warmers from Candlewarmers. I kept one for testing. They got too hot. I got amazing HT right away but then all of my melts lasted 6-8 hours. Lightbulb warmers give me a less instant HT but the melts last 18-24 hours. SuzyK
My warmers are from candlewarmers and I haven't had any problems with them. The ones I have from candlewarmers are light bulb warmers. I have had one customer tell me that the bigger ones with the holes in aren't as strong with the HT as the ones that don't illuminate.how long are you letting them cure before testing them? I let my melts cure for a week before testing. Not every scent is going to last the same. I only keep the ones that will go for at least 14 hours. Even then, some are still stronger scents than others. I have some that will last forever it seems and others just a few days.
QTsmum
The one I'm using is this one:http://www.candlewarmers.com/ProductDetail.aspx?prod=315I'm so nervous now about stocking them. Maybe I should just stick with the smaller round dish ones? It's a bulb warmer. I don't understand how I could get such different results in a single day. Those melts sat for not even a week. Does that make a difference with Paraffin? I always thought it was just a couple days.ETA: I just went and sniffed and the melt is still good! I'm soooo excited. This is the longest I've personally gotten a melt to last! I really think it's the warmer now! This is just over 14 hours! Frig! I truly wonder how many melts I'd kiboshed due to that warmer now! It's the only one I've had that is an illumination, not wall plug in! Edited August 24, 2013 by QTsmum

SuzyK
Oh yeah, it does make a difference when using paraffin. I didn't think about that. I use soy.It is weird but several factors could be the reason, more windows open, air conditioning on or off. maybe something you cooked is lingering? It's hard to know sometimes.I haven't had problems with the one you posted. I have that one in white and a friend has it in green and she hasn't complained. I have had only one person say it didn't seem as strong but she has several warmers in her house.I use these ones and my customers love them. http://www.candlewarmers.com/ProductDetail.aspx?prod=457 I really like them
QTsmum
Those are what I was looking at. I am trying to add some jarred wickless candles too, so they would be perfect. Maybe I'll just order a min and try them out. I will test another melt in that black warmer. I suppose it's possible I got a dud or the bulb is wacky or something. But 2 vs 14 hours is HUGE! A Dud vs a winner! Friggin candle making. LMAO!
SuzyK
Lol. Yes, that's a huge difference. Sounds like it's the warmer for sure.
Lorelei
My combo warmers which look similar will take my melts on for days in my office. I don't have those problems with the ones I have.

However, they are better for those high melt point paraffins. This is just my experience, not saying you'll have the same results. Those warmers give me very strong HT but it does not last :-(

SuzyK
Is it just that model that gets really hot for you?
Ravens
Hi, SuzyKNot sure if you're asking me that question but if so, every two-piece warmer in that category gets really, really hot for me. I have the solid color, the Forest floor motif, the Ginger mint, and two solid color ones (that I cannot find on their website now). Every time I use them and pick up the bowl... ouch! Have to do it quickly, sometimes with something else between my fingers and bowl as it's so hot.Is it just that model that gets really hot for you? SuzyK
Yes I was asking you. Those are the ones I have and sell and haven't had anyone complain about how hot they get. I have the Forest floor one here that I use for testing. They do get warm but I haven't really used other warmers before. I might have to try one. Ravens
Hmmm, that's interesting. I first wondered if I had received a "bad batch", but don't believe so, 'cause I order from Candlewarmers fairly regularly. You're right though in the sense that no-one has mentioned the warmers getting too hot - except me, I suppose, lol. When I test a new fragrance, I use these two-piece warmers, the Scentsy warmers, as well as the cheap-o from Walmart, the type that is only a hot plate, basically, and I put a heat proof bowl on it. Well, the cheap ones from Walmart do great, followed by the Scentsy, then the candlewarmers two piece. I have also tried the other Candlewarmers styles (the square ones with the light bulb), and they are very comparable to the Scentsy ones.Idk now :undecidedYes I was asking you. QTsmum
You guys are NOT helping! LOL! I don't want to sell anything that is going to suck and burn off my melts super fast but I'm working on adding jarred wickless candles to my line and the 2 pc. would be SO PERFECT! I think they are pretty cheap wholesale. It may be worth it to just do a min. order on them! I have 2 shows in Nov, so I doubt I'll be stuck with any! Afterall, I should probably test all areas I can!

They are the ones I use for the tureen wickless "candles". For single melts, in my experience, they burn too hot, though.
SliverOfWax
Look at the wattage. For melts, anything over 17W is going to burn off the scent faster. Really, for melts, the cheapie Wal-Mart 11W work just fine. They aren't hot enough for a wickless candle in a jar (takes too long to melt), but they're fine for melts. QTsmum
I might just get the regular melting plates (which have really good reviews on amazon), some warmers (NOT square ones though) and some wall plug ins and some top down warmers. (Lanterns). Do you think the crocks are better than the plate warmers at all, or would you go with the simplicity/cheapness of the plates? I have a plate warmer from Michael's and it SUCKS. It takes over 2 hours to melt my wax (which is 50% 4627, which would melt on a mild winter day, I think!)...I wish I could try the plates/crocks but I cant justify spending retail when I can get them for cost. LOL!
SliverOfWax
I should have said I speak of the hot plate warmers.I know precious little about light bulb or top down warmers. I carry the light bulb ones, but don't know enough about them to have an opinion. I don't use them personally. Mostly, I promote and sell the hot plate ones. QTsmum
Scentsy are 25 watts, aren't they?? I looked into buying a 'clear out' melter from them But it's still $50 after taxes, etc... !!! Insanity!!!
Ravens
Don't know if all Scentsy warmers are alike, but the 2 I have all have the light bulb inside the base, and it's a 25W. The Candlewamer Scentsy look-alikes also have a 25W bulb (well, the ones I have)... So I'd rather buy those than the Scentsy, but ultimately it'll be your decision. This is just my opinion. As I mentioned, for testing purposes, I get better results from the Walmart hot plates, but realize you may not want to sell those, lolScentsy are 25 watts, aren't they??
