  1. I do 50/50 4625&4627 and get amazing results. I made birds of paradise too and got great throw, hot and cold. I do find that I am needing to leave them for a little while before burning. I try to wait a few days.

  2. I was at a local fair a few weeks ago, and was placed beside a couple of Pink Zebra consultants. They were telling people that all they had to do is place a few of their beads in their warmer and it would last for 30 days!

I have scented dots as part of my line too, but no way can I get a month out of the scent!

The funny thing was, they had a couple of burners going. But people could smell my melts, candles and dots without a burner when walking toward my booth!

Hell, my melts scent lasts MONTHS, perhaps YEARS....(if I don't burn them!) I could probably market that to my benefit! LOL!

It's amazing what people will say. Over time it comes back to them, people notice the false advertising and for a lot of big companies, it can turn into lawsuits!

  3. I've stamped my wax melts with my business

Name... It looks cool. I didn't use ink though.

The stamp just made an impression.

That's so cool!! I have a modern vine in my logo and it would be so cool to stamp all my melts with it!! I think I am going to look into it! Not that I need to spend more money! Lol

  4. Thats the thing, if you are selling these melts, you don't know what your customers are using. They could be using 15w or the others with 25w. Your 15w may keep the scent longer.

Exactly. I've been handing out samples/testers left right and center to people willing to give me feedback. I can't possibly afford to buy and test in every melter available, but I sure can spare a few cubes for people to do it for me. A chunk of them don't get back to me, but I do have a lot of ladies who DO and I really appreciate it!

It's funny because I've had a lady get longer on the initial melt that started this thread on a TEA LIGHT BURNER (you know how hot them things burn at!) than I did with my candle warmers one!! :S So I wonder how stinkin' hot that thing was actually getting??!! Yikes!

I was thinking of printing off little index cards to put in bags telling people that scent time varies depending on melter. I can get a full week out of small plug in warmers when I'd get 12 hrs from the same melt in a full size! But of course the throw isn't as wide spread....

    Ohhhh, the variables!

  5. I have really been wanting to get an October show. I have 2 in November, but fall is such a great time for scents. There's one I found that is handmade items only (Woot! I get so sick of resellers!!!) and the price is reasonable, except they only have a single spot left and it's outside. :undecided

I just don't know. Would you do it? The weather...I mean, who knows?! I wish I had found it sooner. (the wait list for indoors is long and not likely to get me in)

  6. OMG, has anyone smelled this one? I was in the other day, OOOOH Mmmmmm!! It was lovely. I don't really like too many pumpkins anymore, they are too 'cheesy' for me, if that makes sense? (Scents?! Har Har!) But this was bliss.

Is there anything like it out there? Probably not too hard to blend but I don't have a nice pumpkin nor a nice cupcake! :rolleyes2

  7. Amish Quilt is amazing. I have yet to find one person who doesn't like it! I had a girl today tell me she doesn't like 'spicy' scents and I told her she just had to sniff it to humour me and she loved it! :P It's my #1 smell in the world! LOL

I've had a ton of compliments lately on AH's Perfect Pumpkin, though I haven't burnt it yet. I really, really liked Peak's (I think it was!) Pumpkin spice. It wasn't that thick smelling pumpkin, but real, genuine pumpkin pie spice! Mmmmmm.

  8. I lost a wholesale client with 8 stores and backstock already made in advance for them. I was really peeved, but I thanked them for the years I was with them and asked them to call me if they changed their minds. The new buyer wanted to put in reed diffusers instead of candles.

Laugh was on the buyer - the buyer got canned and the VP of the company called me, literally begging me to make candles for them again. Their next order was $4500.

In your shoes I would thank them for their previous business and do what you can to leave the door open. The rule about non gmo soy could be overturned if they can't sell it. And even if they never request your products again, they might recommend you to another buyer. It's easy to reopen a door with a known manufacturer (especially someone with your product knowledge!) than to have to find someone new.

Very good post & reminder! :) Plus, you may have customers coming in, wondering what the heck happened! I mean, someone was obviously buying them for as long as they've been selling! I bet people will be asking questions! I know if I find something I love, I stick to it!!!

Sending lots of positive wishes your way! I'm sure another door will open for you! :)

  9. So I am on a canadian deal forum and I saw they were discussing a coupon related deal with the glade warmers and their melts. I had just purchased a melter from Glade for backup testing to make sure my results are consistent, and I was checking the other comment out. I saw one girl say she bought the glade melts and her house smelled great. Well, I thought to myself "I can make your house smell so much BETTER" LOL!!! I decided to check where she was located, since i'm sending out testers in the local area to get feedback and really just get the idea that there's more than the 'S' word here! She coincidentally is in my tiny (new to me!) town! I thought NO WAY! I mean, she's literally around the corner, he kiddo goes to my kiddo's school! :P So weird!

    Well, she just wrote to me and said;

"Thank you so much! I tried the perfect pumpkin today and love it. Its been going for 8 hours and are entire down stairs smells great. My mom came in tonight and said wow your house smells really good. I tried one of the vanilla glade ones last night and it did smell good but was isolated to the kitchen. Yours makes half of the house smell good "

    :yay:

I'm thrilled! I was a bit nervous when I saw those melts, not having ever tried them and their cheap price but YAY! You really end up saving money in the long run when the melt lasts and smells stronger/better! I'm SOOOO excited!

And she gave me a bag of sausage for the melts, LOL! Score!

  10. I started doing this for the love of a lovely scented home. After great reviews and an amazingly successful craft show last year (followed by a huge move!) I'm ready to start taking this all to the next level next year, with any luck!

I never really kept track of costs too much, since it was fun, but I really do want to start. I have NEVER been good with money related things, so I'm a bit stumped. My hubby has excel on his computer.

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions on where to stary?

  11. Thanks for the info!! I think I'll avoid those combo ones then. I don't want to encourage people to buy one that will not result in the best my melts can be! I'll get the plain plates for the jars and non square melters.

I bought a glade version melter today from Walmart, it looks like the combo warmer and it's also getting really good longevity from my melts!

  12. I might just get the regular melting plates (which have really good reviews on amazon), some warmers (NOT square ones though) and some wall plug ins and some top down warmers. (Lanterns). Do you think the crocks are better than the plate warmers at all, or would you go with the simplicity/cheapness of the plates? I have a plate warmer from Michael's and it SUCKS. It takes over 2 hours to melt my wax (which is 50% 4627, which would melt on a mild winter day, I think!)...I wish I could try the plates/crocks but I cant justify spending retail when I can get them for cost. LOL!

  13. You guys are NOT helping! LOL!

I don't want to sell anything that is going to suck and burn off my melts super fast but I'm working on adding jarred wickless candles to my line and the 2 pc. would be SO PERFECT! I think they are pretty cheap wholesale. It may be worth it to just do a min. order on them! I have 2 shows in Nov, so I doubt I'll be stuck with any! Afterall, I should probably test all areas I can!
