  1. That is so nicely done! Impressive. Such talent here on this board. Is the "bowl" also wax?
  2. I LOVE seeing a few commonalities but also all the differences. I do agree with the "maybes" and "ask later for different answer" comments. SO very true! Thanks!
  3. I am new to all of this and only make for myself but I would choose Baked Apple (Home Interiors type) from RE/AH. If you had to choose just one (your favorite or best selling) which would you choose?
  4. I really like Country Store from McC*ll's. The description is: McC*ll's has packaged the signature notes of a country store! A tangy blend of rosehips, oranges, apples, cinnamon and spices. (This same scent is also packaged as Christmas Jingle for the holiday season.) I'd love to know if you know of a similar FO or something you have mixed to get near this scent. I have seen some with similar names or some called Candle Shop. Wondered if they were indeed similar in scent. Thanks!!
  5. My son and his family are in from out of town. My daughter-in-law is very talented and crafty. I am not! She is eager to learn how to make scented wax. Melting wax now to make Pumpkin Egg Nog and also Graham Crackers (she chose these two) wax brittle with her.
  6. Sure! These are the plain ones but they do make others: http://www.joann.com/wilton-mini-round-pan-set/prd48635/ With a 50% off coupon (check retailmenot.com for printable coupon) at Joann or Michael's they are just $3-$4 for 2-3 of them in a package.
  7. Thank you so much for taking time to answer. I guess since I am my only customer and I am happy, I will stick with what I am doing!
  8. I am having fun making my brittle! I have been burning up the search function here and reading and reading! I am curious if I am to add anything to IGI 4794 for making tarts/melts/brittle. I see a lot about additives but wonder if that applies to actual candles or soy wax. I appreciate any tips. Thanks!
  9. I use paraffin. I just made it yesterday and have not warmed it yet. It was a yummy but very light scent. I only used 12 ounces of wax for the one ounce FO and it still smells pretty light hen I snif the bag of it today. Will warm some in a few days.
  10. Another idea, if you want to even avoid using glass in your dorm room is to pour into Wilton's small bundt, angel food cake or small cake pans. They are like 3 for $6-$8 and I got a 3 pack with a 50% off one item coupon. They fit perfectly on combo or candle warmers, the metal heats up nicely and offers nice throw and they are non-stick so clean up is easy. The small pans work well to toss in brittle or tarts as well.
  11. I had hoped that the Pomegranate Cider would be more cider smelling but it is a VERY tart pomegranate. Even though I make with paraffin, I am going to have to let this one sit for a bit and melt it before I decide if I like it. The nice thing about brittle is that I can just add a couple of pieces of other brittle like Cinnamon Stick, or Buttercream to make it spicier or sweeter.
  12. I am getting everything out to make brittle. Today's scents are Pomegranate Cider from Candlescience and Sweet Holiday Blend Coffee from Lone Star. Since my brittle is just for me it is made in my kitchen. My house is about to smell delicious!
  13. Yeah, I need to go back and read the rules here. I seem to want to access stuff that I cannot. I think I have to be here 30 days for some areas and number of posts for others. Trying 8, 1 ouncers and a few cello bags and having an order around $20 but having shipping still be $12 (no heavy wax in the order) is getting a little crazy!
  14. That is EXACTLY my plan! I am adding all of these to my spreadsheet, will try them and then do as you have done. I make only for myself and to give away to a very few people who melt so i do not need supplies as you who have businesses so it would get expensive ordering my tiny little 1 and 2 ounce FO's from a bunch of places. Thank you so much!!
  15. I have purchased from RE/AH, Lone Star and Candle Science. I have enjoyed what I have gotten. Where would you suggest I try next? Thanks for letting me know your favorites or places worth my trying!!
  16. I bought nothing but a candle thermometer, wax and FO to start. I used a stainless pot nested into another pot as a double boiler. Since then I have purchased a non-stick cookie sheet, 2 Wilton silicone molds, a scale and actual double boiler insert. Other than that I have just purchased wax, FO's and cello bags. I do not dye my wax. Today I ordered Avery round Kraft labels so that I can label the cello bags with scent name and I got a yard of unbleached muslin to tear into strips for tying the bags. The labeling will help for my use (I list FO name, wax used and where each were purchased on the bags) both will make the bags nicer looking for giving away.
  17. I use KY 133 which is a granulated wax (it is seriously like sand) and super easy to use. It is a paraffin wax. I get it at Rustic Escentuals. 5 pounds is like $8.95. Shipping is not inexpensive from anyplace I have ordered and as an individual user who is just buying enough to fuel my own habit, it can add up. I also have been using IGI 4794. It comes in 10 pound increments and is $18-$20. I did a wax test last night, through the night and this morning and I cannot tell a difference in these 2 waxes. I followed the brittle tutorial on Rustic Escentuals website and as someone who is NOT crafty (AT ALL), I did great. I do try and buy bags and FO's from the place I buy wax since shipping from anyone seems high.
  18. I do not sell nor have a business. I am buried in scented wax now! I'd love to give/share some with neighbors who I learned do have warmers or are willing to get one now that they know about me and my offer of free wax! I'd love to get or make some cute labels on which I can write the scent name. Right now I am writing in Sharpie on the bags directly. Would you suggest Avery or another online company? I'd welcome your suggestions. Thanks!!
  19. I know! No one else would understand how exciting this is! haha! I used an equal amount of oil, same scent and two different waxes a week or so ago. I weighed out the same amount of scented wax tonight and am warming in the same room in same brand and style of warmer. Plan to leave them going and see if I notice a difference in smell, throw or anything else discernable. Who knew that this could be so fun!
  20. Thank you all! How kind and helpful of you! megandgarr-I appreciate your generous offer. I will have fun trying different pumpkin FO's so no need to send me from your stash. Tht was so thoughtful! Guess I'll just have to order more FO's and of course, wax, then! haha!!
  21. Well I for one and glad that you are here. Mainly because I was getting lonely being the only person who did not know anything! haha! I am VERY new and learning like crazy. I agree with the others. I have read, searched, researched, read tutorials, watched videos and asked a LOT of questions. Fortunately, the kind people here have patiently answered my many questions! I started with wax brittle (googled it and a tutorial at Rustic Escentuals came up). I have made some tarts in silicone molds but the brittle is super simple so I keep making it. I also like that I can mix a few pieces form a few scents and create something new each time. I started because I could not find certain scents I wanted (or wished they had "a bit more this" or "a little less this"). A super crafty friend (really, she could have her own show) was appalled that I had not even tried to make tarts to supplement what I buy from others. So, I tried. First time was just okay because I used what I could find at craft stores. So, I researched and read and found RE/AH and followed what they used in the wax brittle tutorial and placed my first order. Made my first real batches and I did not burn my house down nor have any other "wax-idents". I felt so accomplished and proud of myself! So, the message is that if I can do it, anyone can do it!
  22. I have to admit. I REALLY like Y*ankee Spiced Pumpkin. I have tried melts from many makers and just do not find a pumpkin that I like. Got a package in tonight and the Pumpkin Pie barely has a scent. All is not lost because it is a 1 ounce bottle and for an individual I have PLENTY of wax. So, I'll try it. Hoping for the success stories I have read about people not thinking a scent would be good and having it be so. I also got Pumpkin Souffle. It is WAY stronger and I am going to make it tonight. Have you found a good Pumpkin Pie scent that you'd suggest? I'd appreciate it!!
  23. Well, that is basically all I do (except for this breaking up business!) because I am a rookie who only makes for herself! I do not dye my wax and have been troubled by random flecks or dust particles that I can see in my clear wax when melted. I swear I practically clean it down before I put it in and there appears to be no avoiding it. I thought it was just a novice problem.
  24. I am breaking up 5 pound slabs of paraffin. IGI 4794. I bought the putty knife and hubby has a million hammers, mallets and sledges so I will borrow from him. As an individual user I will not be breaking this up much. The putty knife meets hammer worked really well to break up my big pieces into smaller chunks yesterday. I get another 10 pounds tomorrow so will leave them whole until I need them. Thanks for the putty knife and other tips. They will all help me!
  25. Mine was unrecognizable. No worries. Mine was just a little 1 ounce bottle. I have enough buttercream, sugar cookie and birthday cake so the cotton candy will not be missed. I'll try it again another time!
