  1. I've heard that NG's Eggnog is great... I poured JS's "My Secret Recipe" yesterday in soy, which is eggnog, and the cold throw is really nice so far. No comment on the hot throw yet...got to let that baby cure!
  2. Perfect! What a cute monkey! Love your business name...it's very hip and fun!!!
  3. Thanks so much for all of your suggestions! I think I'm going to go ahead and go with "The Baker's Rack Candle Shack"...I liked it right away. I just needed some affirmation!
  4. Ooh...how creative! I bet it's great!
  5. Yes, give it a try and let us know. I also have a couple of rec's for super strong cinnamons: BnL's Cinnamon Sticks (now available at BCN) and NG's Cinnamon Sticks.
  6. Okay, it was poured yesterday, and I colored it a wonderful deep brown (sometimes hard to get with soy...but by the grace of God I pulled it off...LOL), and I opened up the jar this morning, and the most wonderful chocolatey coffee aroma hit me in the face. After curing about 16 hours, I have to say this does have a wonderful cold throw...definitely a good coffee/cafe type scent, for those of you who are into that. The other 2 great coffees out there I've discovered are Peak's Freshly Brewed Coffee (true to it's name...strong!), and JS's Caramel Cinnamon Latte...it's DIVINE!!!!!!!!!! I would recommend trying the Snicker's Coffee Blend from JS to anyone who enjoys this type of smell...it's a winner for me, definitely. Now I'm going to cure it for a couple of weeks, and will comment later on the hot throw!
  7. I don't have any rec's for a good popcorn FO, but I just wanted to say that I'm sorry your son lost a friend...that's so hard. Give him a squeeze from everyone here...
  8. Good Lord, that does sound wonderful!!!! I bet it's sold out because it's so darn fabulous!!! Hence, it's worth the wait. Can you put it on backorder?
  9. What is Indian Summer like? And Cornucopia? Where do you get these oils from? Hmmm...I need more scents like a hole in the head!!!
  10. I just pour JS's caramel apple yesterday in an 8 oz. square mason (I use soy), and colored the bottom layer a bright candy apple red, and the second layer a nice golden caramel color...well I fricked it up, and had some bleeding, and both of the caramel apple candles look like crapola. Now I also made layered candy corn 8 oz. square mason jars that came out very authentic and cute...the scent also from JS. I'm going to have to let both scents cure for a couple of weeks...I have candle nose something awful. Poured waaayyyy too many scents yesterday, and now I'm paying the piper! Here's my fall line-up (with a few X-mas scents thrown in): *Candy Corn *Country Kitchen (good grief, what a nice oil this is!!! Reminds me of Thanksgiving Dinner with cinnamon overtones!!!) *Caramel Apple *Nana's Old Fashioned Apple Butter (YUM) *Chestnuts and Brown Sugar *Pumpkin Nog (very nice pumpkin with a touch of spice...not overwhelming) *Cranberry Spice *Brown Sugar Pecan *Blueberry Cheesecake (I love this scent year-round) *Orange Chiffon Cake *Hillbilly Fixin's (very unique...kind of perfumey???) *My Secret Recipe (an eggnog...very nice!!!) *Christmas Wreath (an exact dupe of Yankme's...very nice if you want a X-mas tree scent...not my favorite, but hey, some LOVE this scent; it really isn't overwhelming like some) *Strawberry Jam (hey, fall is canning season!!!) *Caramel Cinnamon Latte (DIVINE!!!!) *Snickers Coffee Blend (this is heavenly as well...it's one of Becky's brand new oils...cold throw is excellent after 12 hours...rich/chocolately/strong coffee/espresso...I'm going to love burning this one!!!) *Vanilla Buttercream Crunch (another fabulous year-round scent) And these are just the scents I poured yesterday!!! Off to pour some Cinnamon Rolls w/Van. Frosting!!!
  11. Yeah, I hate to admit it, but their Midsummer's Night is a favorite around my house...my hubby loves it, and I can't seem to dupe it exactly. Personally, though, I don't really care for the mottled look in their container candles...it's lovely in pillars, but in containers...it sort of looks like poor craftsmanship to me...just my opinion. They do have some awesome throwers, but hey, so do we!
  12. I colored mine a deep purple as well. But the peach idea sounds lovely too!
  13. I too use C-3. I currently use 1 oz. of FO per lb. of wax...it will depend on which FO you're using though.
  14. I've used Frost Bite from BnL's...it's a nice wintery cozy fragrance. It's pretty! I've just poured the Snickers Coffee Blend. So far, it's really rich...quite strong thus far.
  15. I don't think I saw a current "What's in your pot..." thread for this weekend, so I'd thought I'd launch it this time. 23 1 oz. samples being poured into 8 oz. square masons...all from JS. Trying some LX 22's...hope they're not flame-throwers in my C-3 wax. Just finished: Pumpkin Nog-fricked one up (wick pulled out...it's going to be a wickless, I guess...LOL) Blueberry Cheesecake Cranberry Spice Snickers Coffee Blend So now I can't find my flippin' heat gun...hubby's running out to get another. Ugh. I basically can't use C-3 without the heat gun...it sorts out any fugly issues I have, and makes the world a better place. Next to pour: Boysenberry Spiced Clove Hillbilly Fixin's Caramel Apple Nana's Old Fashioned Apple Butter Chestnuts and Brown Sugar Brown Sugar Pecan Buttermint Candies Caramel Cinnamon Latte Candy Corn Ultimate Vanilla Orange Chiffon Cake Cinnamon Roll w/Van. Frosting Vanilla Buttercream Crunch Christmas Wreath And about 5 more I can't think of. Anyway, I hope everyone is having a good weekend!
  16. I won't use a scent that doesn't throw well at the 6.25% (1 oz. per/lb.) ratio...using any more than that for me would constitute a waste of money. If it doesn't throw at that percentage, I won't use the oil and move on. There are many people who ise 8-10%, and that's fine, but what many have discovered, is that if you overload some waxes with FO, it will actually lock the scent up, and won't throw well anyway.
  17. I just received my best-sellers sample pack from Just Scent! Most of these I've tried before, but I also received 10 extra samples (for an additional 10 bucks), and included in there was the new Snickers Coffee Blend oil...OOB this is delicious!!!!!!!!!!!! Chocolate/peanuts, with strong coffee base notes!!!!!!! I hope it throws in my C-3 wax...but it's never really been much of an issue. I'll let you know how this one smells once I get it in wax...should be in a couple of hours. I have 23 samplers to pour!!!! Yay!!!!!!!
  18. Ooh...how about "Windowsill Creations?" Or "Windowsill Candle Co.?" Or "The Baker's Rack Candle Co.?" Or "The Baker's Rack Candle Shack?" (kinda dig this one...) Or "Field of Dreams Candle Co.?" (not too shabby...copyright infringement, however???) It's early for a Saturday morning, and my brain just sort of popped these out without enough caffeine to really fuel the fire. Tell me what you think.
  19. I make soy candles (actually parasoy), and most of them are scented foody/bakery/cafe scents...I love the yummy smells of baked goods and kitchen aromas. I live in Iowa, and the market for primitive/country/Americana type items is huge...I use 8 oz. square mason jars, 8 oz. smooth-sided jelly jars, and 16 oz. apoth country kitchen jars...the mason/jelly jars I use the rustic star lids. I also make tarts and votives to complement the larger sized container candles. Since I feel that I have mastered what I have done, and have been checking into insurance, and all the other ins and outs, I am stuck on finding a name for my potential business...I am interested in setting up wholesale accounts in the future with some local giftshops. I would love a name that reflects the kitchen/bakery/primitive aspect of my candles, as they are poured right in my kitchen as well. Any ideas for me? My mind is blank!!!
  20. Oh, I absolutely know what you mean. 30 is a manageable number...if I went beyond that, my organizational skills would be out the window.
  21. Ooh! You're so lucky! If I'm not mistaken, they're excellent for B&B stuff...I've heard their Synergy Blend Essential oils are yummy!!! They do also carry Ecosoya wax, cotton and zinc core wicks, and some jars. Yay!
  22. Fillmore Containers doesn't require a tax ID number or vendor number...but I could be wrong. BCN/BCS (Bittercreek North and South) and Candlescience don't require tax ID numbers or vendor numbers.
  23. 200+????? Good grief, you must be swamped!!! That many would overwhelm me.
  24. Well, I live in Iowa, and I'll tell you right now that we need more suppliers of wax, FO, wicks, jars/packaging and other general candle-making essentials. Sure, we used to have BNL's...but now their butts belong to BCN in Wisconsin. And we are apparently the original home of soy wax, via Michael Richard's Soyawax out of Cedar Rapids...which IMHO, there are now far more advanced and superior soy waxes available. Also, there doesn't seem to be any suppliers in our state for high-quality paraffin waxes. I do get my wax from a grain elevator in Watkins that has been turned into a distributor of soy products (they sell C-3 Naturewax), but being in Waterloo, it's almost 2 hours away, and with gas prices, it's costly to get there and back...and shipping is not that much less than many out-of-state suppliers, to be honest. Other than heading to Wal-Mart or a grocery store for a case of jelly jars (usually not smooth-sided as many of us prefer), glass jars are the thing that kills me...it's costly to buy jars, and the shipping can be ridiculous. And to pay $6.00 for a $5.95 pack of wicks is a bit over-the-top as well. I would love to see a supplier in Iowa that has a great selection of wicks, jars, wax (paraffin and soy), molds, etc...for those from a state that doesn't have these items available locally, I know you want the same. FO's are an investment I am willing to shell out the $$$ for in terms of shipping from a different state, because to me, the scent makes the candle.
  25. I really like Peak's Lovespell.
