  1. I had also tried Couronne's beautifully colored glasses but we used one of the red candle containers in our bathroom and red dye came off, staining our sink counter. Couldn't sell something that does that
  2. Thank you all for the suggestions! I look forward to trying them!
  3. I've tried a couple of ocean fragrances but am looking for something a bit more briny. Any recommendations? Thank you!
  4. It's from Elevance. I also have their 110 and am going to play around with that as well with the 15% stearic. Both the 92 and the 110 say 'oil' on the packages but seem to be in wax form just with different softnesses (I've seen the 110 also labeled as a wax). Maybe I'll just hang onto that 92 and just make some soap with it sometime.
  5. I was given some coconut wax with a melt point of 92* and have been trying to figure out how to make some container candles with it. How much palm stearic would be needed to raise the melt point enough? I haven't found out much by googling it. Swans has a coconut wax for which they suggest adding 15% palm stearic acid but their coconut wax has a melt point of 110. Helpful tips from the coconut wax experts?
  6. Nature's Garden has a beer FO - if the brewery people are satisfied without having embeds maybe they'd be okay with just a beer-scented candle, maybe in a beer mug? http://www.naturesgardencandles.com/candlemaking-soap-supplies/item/matthew2/-Beer-Fragrance-Oil.html
  7. I had been working with a larger, double-wicked container but have found a smaller one (2-3/4" wide, 3" high) that I really like and now must start over with the 'fun' of wicking... Any tips on a starting point? I have an assortment of CD, CDN, Eco, and a few sizes of LX. Thanks
  8. I will do that next time. I had been pouring them too full and trying to keep it to the convenient "one-pour" that certain soys claim they are, but really don't seem to be...
  9. I recently got some metal wick bars to replace my makeshift (and not terribly effective) chopstick method, and have noticed that when I use the metal wicks the wax underneath cools unevenly such that there are air pockets and unsightly dips on the surface of the wax. Does anybody else have problems with this? Any suggestions for wick bars that won't do this, or other methods of keeping wicks centered?
  10. Same here - the thing of spelling 'C' words with a 'K' is right up there with nails on a chalkboard.
  11. Is that the Gin Martini? I saw that one but was hesitant to try it as it has vermouth and sounded more like a martini than a straight gin. If it smells more like straight gin though I may try and see it it works okay in the blend I have in mind. Thanks for mentioning it
  12. I haven't been able to find a straight gin to use as a mixer. Found a couple that are already mixed into different drink-scented FO's but not the one I'm hoping to blend up.
  13. This candle, soy and beeswax with CD wicks, has burned beautifully until this last burn (bottom 1/3 of container now) when it got this film of soot on top of the wax. Any ideas how to prevent this or what causes it? There's none at all on the sides of the glass. Also, regarding the crack, it was because I added a bit too much beeswax as my scale was being weird. It makes the tops beautiful but cracks if there's too much. Thanks!
  14. sorry, accidentally posted as visitor message - will write as PM

  15. I'd be saving on shipping as well and was pretty excited to come across a supplier nearby. I'd love to hear if you try them out!
  16. Just noticed that. I was looking at their "as low as..." prices which aren't bad but their per pound price is pretty high
  17. I just saw that Saco, DPS/Morris Wax (a great wax supplier near Chicago) also carries FO's - anybody familiar with them, and how they perform in soy? They have a decent selection and the prices aren't too bad.
  18. Thanks! I'll have to order one then. I didn't realize that they'll replicate something for you - that's great! That would be especially helpful if you were building a scent with quite a few notes. Do you find their pyramids to be helpful? I'll have to try that q-tip method for now. I do have more than just Aztec's (also have some Peak, and Candlescience) but they seem to have a good variety of single-note fragrances. Too bad there's no one-stop-shop, especially considering shipping prices! Last week or so I had put a post in the classifieds looking for some different single-note FO's but didn't get any responses.
  19. I've been starting to dabble a little in fragrance-blending but am having some difficulty with the process - are there one or two or three companies that you can get most of the basic fragrances from? I ordered a bunch from Aztec and have been having a lot of fun with them but haven't gotten any into wax (I use soy) yet and from the reviews here it sounds like that might be a waste of time. Ordering from many companies is a bit cost prohibitive when you factor in all the shipping - what's the best process that works for those of you who enjoy this? SOS has perfumery kits but I don't know if those would be worth getting or not. Thanks much for your input!
  20. I'm looking forward to hearing how this turns out! I'll definitely be ordering some when/where it's available. Thanks for your work on this!
  21. Fillmore has an Autumn Leaves that it describes as: A warm blend of exotic wood & amber with a base of patchouli & musk. I have a bottle of it and don't detect any fruit notes. Smells like it would make a marvelous soap for men.
  22. Any recommendations on stickers/labels/decals that work well on glass candle containers? I recently was given a candle that has a lovely matte foil-looking sticker with the company logo on it but as far as doing our own design on a sticker or something that would actually stay on hot glass I'm just at a loss what to look for. Not wanting to try a bunch of different things that will just fall off the glass when it heats up, you know?
  23. When I've shipped things on ebay I've always charged the amount quoted, and 'pocketed' the difference. It just goes towards packaging (envelopes, bubble wrap, packing peanuts, etc.) so buyers aren't really getting ripped off or gouged. Although, I've only used USPS to ship, maybe there's more of a difference in quoted v. actual cost with UPS...
  24. I'm the same way with those types of names, they're just tacky. You could name it after a place - Bahamas, Tahiti, etc. I'd think that would go over well.
