  1. Well from a fellow blonde...ha ha...I was not looking for it when I found it, maked sense? It kind of found me. I use GB 464 too! So at least you will know that it has a really nice CT. I do think that this is an FO that I will go 9%-10% load though. I LOVE my 464 but it needs a ton of help sometime. I think the finished candles are so pretty (at least now they are), I don't color any of my candles and I love how they look, even after burning. I'm not so sure the that company does offer soy, maybe a soy/parafin blend, but I would be amazed if thery are 100% soy, just sayin PS: Have you found your favorite wick for the 464 in the 8 oz jelly jars?
  2. It does seem very true to a holly berry scent BUT it also adds a bit of a "woodsy" undertone that I personally like. I am familiar with the candle shop that you speak if in PA but don't really compare my candles to theirs because I use only soy, so the results will be different no doubt. I will tell you that we loved the holly berry so much that we've added it to our holiday line. What type of candle are you planning on making for your customer?
  3. Hi there, I purchased the holly berry FO from CS and love it, but I cannot give you HT opinion as we simply poured a 2 oz for our sample test case. But CT is really nice!! Good Luck Susan
  4. OH NO DOUBT!! To think for an hour I had the best smelling, best burning candle! Ha ha.....I am just a "candle infant" as well. I got a kit as a Christmas gift last year, fell in LOVE with the all natural soy concept, and BOOM, registered my company 2 months ago. But...very much so still an infant...but loving it! Test, test, test....I will continue. At least I know that ECO 8 wick is too small in that container AND my house smelled wonderful for that sweet, brief moment
  5. UPDATE 2 hours into burn test and the ECO 8 is too small, I wanted to test wicking down from my usual ECO 10 and now know that the ECO 8 is too small. Nice MP (not entire way across, a little hang up on inside of jar) and the wick was almost drowned out.
  6. Just had to share, I've been working out testing jar+wick+fo for the last week and wanted to share some results. Wax: GB464; FO PCS Cinnamon Bun (got a sample); Wick ECO 8; jar diameter 2.75-3"; cure time 48 hrs; just a bit over 8% FO load AMAZING!
  7. I have had great success the Raspberry Sangria and the Blueberry Cobbler, both great HT and CT. My only problem child has been CS Pumpkin Pie, one more test run to go before I give up on that one. BTW, I use GB464. Enjoy your new scents!
  8. Hi there again, we "spoke" on the thread about low HT and GB464. I have never used a FO load that high but I am determined to figure out why the low HT with the Pumpkin Pie from CS. In my testing I am at 7% now and the testing will continue to 10%. I will let you know if you like. I won't go beyond 10%, if no good HT by then I will give up on that FO and move on to Christmas scent testing
  9. Hi there, I'm new to this forum too, but have used 464 for some time now. From reading this thread you are using GB 464, right not 415 from your friend? I just have to know how you like it. I changed to 464 after my initial kit that I got for a Christmas gift a while ago. I love 464, I have really never had any problems with frosting, in fact, I had to look up what frosting was because I have never experienced it. My pouring area is in my garage so there have been times where my candles cured too fast an with the 464 you will get some imperfections on top. All I do is touch up the top with a hair dryer, actually I just started using a heat gun for candle top corrections AND preheating the containers, really helps. I've only ever had one problem and that was HT with one scent, Pumpkin Pie, from CS and I am testing as to why right now. I can't wait to hear how you make out with your first pour with 464....Bet you love it! Good Luck! Susan
  10. Uh Ha...never thought about how the FP changes once introduced to the wax, good point! I'm going to test the CDN wicks, am I correct that these are what you speak ofStabilo KST (CDN) Wick ? I will start with the wick size recommended for my jar size and go from there. Thank you! Susan
  11. Stella, hi there. I will be trying wicking up in the near future once this test group is evaluated. Something interesting, maybe it correlates, maybe it does not. My best hot throw scents from CS are Raspberry Sangria, Coconut Lime Verbena, and McIntosh. They all have FP's at 165 or below. The ones giving me problems are Pumpkin Pie and Very Vanilla, at 212 and 212+ respectfully. So, given that, maybe the only way to get a better hot throw from FO with high FP is to carefully wick up without creating an over wicked candle? I think this will be the next text phase. Susan
  12. Sorry for the delay. Mine cured for probably 2 weeks, they were part if inventory...YIKES!! I poured test group #2 last night and won't burn either test groups until this weekend or even maybe Monday. I need to eliminate the pour temp as a problem, so that is the only variable in this test. What gets me is that the burn tests are spot on so I really don't want to change wicks. I wonder IF you have a great burn, like its maybe just a "bit" over wicked, with NONE of the obvious "over wicking" issues, could the scent actually be burning off too quickly?? Susan PS: Maybe it is just the scent, CS Pumpkin Pie ?? Its been re-formulated according to CS and the review just before mine (on their site) was 1/2011
  13. I use GB464 also and just had a similar issue with CS FO Pumpkin Pie. I am testing the "wick theory" myself too. No answers yet but will share my results. I did phase 1 test last night, 8 oz jelly jar, ECO 10 wick, heat to 185, add FO, pour at 145, FO load at 7%. Beautiful cure and CT but who knows what the HT will be like.
  14. Thanks so much for the info and the direction to the area for veggie waxes. I can't send PMs yet but thanks for the offer of chatting about 464 too!
  15. I am using GB 464 as well. I love the wax but have been testing different pour temps. What do you mean when you say "that is a soy wax and for a paraffin" ? Right now I am testing pours temps as they relate to better hot throws and have come up with some interesting data. I was amazed at how different weighing the FO vs. liquid measure is ! Oh, I get it, daaaa, you are saying that IF pouring paraffin that 140 would be too cool. Got it. I do work only in soy, no experience with paraffin.
  16. Thanks, yes I was referring to Peak's but I'm new to the forum and used the abbreviation in the Hints For Newbies" I will be ordering more myself, love it and I am with you on the Concord Grape! But, wonder why they say that on the bottle "add just before pouring" Have you ever done that? I don't pour until 140-150
  17. Hello All! Quick question. I have never used PCS FO before but received a sample (love it) with some supplies that I ordered from PCS. The sample FO is cinnamon bun and on the side of the bottle it says "add just before pouring" Is this what they say for all of their FOs or just this one. I've always added my FO at 185, when I remove from heat. Anyone know? Thanks.... Susan
  18. Kitn, thank you! OMG your soaps are beautiful!! I must tell you, I saw that you do a Citrus Basil. A funny thing, the one candle that we sold out of was a basil herb candle, really popular, even though we offered the "typical" fall scents.
  19. Just wanted to say hello, I'm new to the forum. I just had to join after reading all of the great information here, so thanks!! We just did our first show last weekend and had a BLAST !! I love making soy candles!! Working with my sisters is the best, we laugh and make it a great time even though we've spent many hours on inventory! That's all, just hello! Peace, Susan
