  1. Yes, I hope things pick up. It has been sad to come here and have nothing new to read.:( I guess I better buy more stuff and do some cool experiments, so I can post more.

I am still adjusting to this new forum format. I am missing the "what's new" tab. I know they have one here, but it is pretty weak compared to the old one. I'm hopeful it will get better. I'm sure this new forum is a work in progress. :)

Oh, and Georgia, I love seeing you on here. You are one that I remember from my newbie-newbie days 4 years ago. ( still feel like newbie, most of the time):)

  2. What fun, Cheve is good. I've kind of been thinking that part of my soaping problems are related to the fact that I switched from my trusty stainless stock pot with two handles to large plastic bowls with one handle. I don't know if the plastic somehow causes the acceleration but was wishing for a stainless one handle bowl like this one. My small batches would do okay in this thing and hopefully my soap would behave like it use to with the old stockpot. I could be full of it (which is often the case) but there's something about the stainless that seems to work better. Oh, and Chuck can buy his own measuring bowl......I must be schizophrenic. I would be interested to hear opinions whether a plastic would change the saponification process or not.

    Hey Cheve,

Have you tried Talltaly's thermal transfer method??? I've used it for the last few batches and... It works!!!! I am using a super fast tracing recipe - 63% solid oils - including palm & shea butter, and I have had time to Swirl, in fact, I have had to wait around to fluff up tops because it was still at thin/medium trace when i was done. I'm in love with this method!!!! I even used it for hp and works great!! Saves time, imo.

Btw-I used plastic buckets and bowls.

  3. There is a scent that lasts 40 hours? Oh my gosh..what is it? Lol

I just had tester email me yesterday that Honey Gingerbread from Backwoods lasted 5 days at 10 hours per day. What???? 50 hours, I am sceptical, but he insisted. I guess I'm going to have to test it again myself. I put that FO away in favor of a different gingerbread, but it might get a second look. :) Sometimes I feel like I'm part of a never ending science project!! :)

  4. I have a scentsy plug-in that I use all the time in my bathroom. The wax melts fine and throws great. I do use a softer wax combo - 3022/4794. I wipe out wax while it is warm when I want to change scent.

  5. Yes!

At the end of my pour, I poured melt bars on a fondant mat in my Summer Fuit Salad and a Peach I use as a mixer. I do not sell the bars yet but include them as a gift with big orders. This one I will call Fruit Stand!

You've got me curious with this. What do you mean by melt bars? Do you use clamshell or do you pour into pan over mats and cut into bars? I'd love to see pic.

  6. I did this for the first time last Friday. I went to two antique/gift shops in my small town. I took a basket full of products (soaps and candle melts) and a wholesale price list. Had a nice visit with the 1st shop owner who seemed very interested. I left a bar of soap, a lip balm and a wholesale list - felt really good about my prospects. I then went to the second shop and again had a nice visit. I was getting ready to leave samples and phone numbers when, to my surprise, she started ordering: " I'll take 12 of those, 7 of those...." I about fell over. I didn't even have a pen or an piece of paper. Embarrassing but awesome!!!

I must admit I'm a little nervous. Oh, the commitment, the expectations, the headaches!!! Hopefully it will all go as smoothly as my first shop sell - we shall see.

(Ubure - not meaning to hijack your thread - hope it helps a little)

  7. I'm wondering if I have a strange smeller.:) There are a few FO suppliers that I smell a sweet caramel-like undertone to most of their fragrances. Two suppliers I can think of, off hand, are ICS and Candle Source. Many of their fo's have it - even some florals and earthy scents. Does anyone know what I am talking about? Or am I just crazy?
