  1. Here I am!

I'm puzzled by customers. I had small pillars I was selling at 8 euros, medium at 10, tumblers at 5.

everyone bought the small pillars, I thought because 8 is less then 10, but the 5 euros tumblers didn't sell. Who knows.

It was the first time the town organized this indoor fair so many things could be improved sicne they want it to become an annual fair. The palace was not decorated at all, from the outside no one could tell there was a craft fair going on inside, no signs in the streets at all. I was the only candlemaker. My friend went to see other fairs in other cities and she told me there were no candles at all. I am more puzzled. I would pay someone to tell me what's the matter here LOL!

    Thanks for reading!

I am finding that customer preferences can be very unpredictable. One show, I sold tons of body butter. I stocked up on it for the next show and did not sell one . My lotion bars, on the other hand, sold completely out that show. I had sold very few lotion bars before that. Candle melts and warmers sold awesome at one show and did not sell as well at the next. I guess what I'm saying is just keep on going, and see what happens next. Your candles are really beautiful, who knows - you might sell tons on container candles next show. Oh, and making 200 Euro on a 5 Euro entry fee is really awesome!!!!

  2. I've been in 3 craft shows in the last month and have had great success!! Yesterday I participated in a one day craft show and made 10x my booth fee. I also had 2 people ask if I would be interested in putting my products in their stores. I am beyond excited. I guess all the hard, frustrating, obsessive work is starting to pay off. Yah!!!

  3. I get these questions on occasion. Normally the questions are from people who are starting out making their own for personal or a new business, and want quick info. The bigger competitors have already figured out where the best fragrances, etc. for their business are found.

In truth, most of my fragrances are custom blended for me by the manufacturer, or by me using things not available at retail, or blends of some retail available... Nothing straight out of the bottle.

The quick answer that has satisfied most of the prying questions is a list of a few commonly used retailers, like brambleberry, WSP, Natures Garden, Lebermuth... If asked where a particular fragrance in a product comes from, i answer truthfully, it is a custom blend as i don't make anything directly out of bottle. Most contain infusions too, so i can't point them to any particular place.

    TallTayl,

Where do you get your fos from? Could you pm me a detailed list and please be very specific? Oh, and would it be too much to ask for you to include your custom blend recipes and ratios? TIA.

  4. Also want to add - I agree with you. It is very hard to decide on which ones to put in your line up. I've been making for a few years now - and I hope that with more time and experience it will become easier to keep steady inventory of scents. I change my line up too much. I had a customer call the other day about reordering a soap that I had discontinued. I told her I had one very similar - but she insisted that she wanted the exact same one. Hum, what to do?

  5. No I haven't tried any of Fillmore's scents. I'm really trying not to add new suppliers due to shipping costs,

so settling for scents from my current suppliers.

I hear you. Shipping can be crazy. I am trying to narrow my supplier list down. :) Never ending quest!

  6. I settled on the Oregon Pine Needle from The Candle Source. I like it even though it's not as strong as Bert's, nor did it last as long. It's been selling pretty steady in the last month and no complaints as of yet!

Thanks! I'm going to give it a try. Did you happen to try Pine/fir from Fillmore?

  7. Just beware, it took me a month to get my priority 2 day package from BNC. I called them and they said they were having problems with the USPS in that area. I never have any problems with other suppliers using priory mail. That being said, I can't stand high shipping prices. I have dumped many a cart full of supplies when shipping seemed unreasonable. I find myself going with suppliers with flat rate shipping or ups that seems reasonable. I would like to think that suppliers don't pad shipping, but hum... Think they might.
