Okay everyone, How do you really make scented tarts? Give up your secrets!!! :smiley2:
I have made about 25 batches with different wax and FO combos and none of them throw very well. I consider myself quite crafty - so this failure is making me crazy. Let me tell you what I have done thus far:
1. I have ordered about 40 different fragrances from Candle Science, NG, TCS, Peaks and KY.
2. 3 different waxes - KY Parasoy blend; IGI 4794/415 combo at 75%/25%, 66%/33%, and 50%/50% ratios; and I have used TCS blended container wax.
3. Heated waxes to a variety of temps ranging from 165 to 190 degrees.
4. Stirred in FO from 1 min to 3 min.
5. Poured from 150 to 170 degrees.
6. I have poured most tarts into clamshells or plastic candy molds.
7. Let them dry and harden - I sometimes put in freezer for 5 min or so to get out of molds easier.
So what do you think? What am I doing wrong? Or is there some secret ingredient that I am missing. Please be gentle with me - I really don't want to give it up. I'm still obessed!:smiley2:

Sent you an email.
Ravens, I haven't seen your email. Maybe it got lost out there in cyberville.

ktaggard, don't know how much of TCS wax you ordered (hope you ordered the right one, it's the one on the left side of your screen), but I would be happy to send you some sample tarts and see if you like them and if they're strong enough for you.
I don't know why really, but I often worry when someone orders a whole bunch of The Candle Source wax and then is disappointed because they don't get the same throw I get:sad2: Makes me feel guilty... let me know if you have specific questions about it, and I will try my best to answer them.
Let us know how it goes!
That's so funny. When I posted that I was ordering the TCS wax, I wondered how you would feel. I would have had the same feelings. We always want others to love something the way we do. :smiley2: Sorry to make you nervous, but I have a good feeling about it. I ordered the Container blend-slab. I think that is the kind you mentioned in other posts. I also order IGI 4794 and 415 from Peak. Hoping one of them will work. I'm still excited. And I would love to get a few samples of your tarts. That is so sweet of you!!!!

Just ordered TCS wax and fragrances. Excited to try it. Thanks Ravens.

I received KY para-soy wax last week. I am a newbie, so I was excited to try it. I'd heard great things about it. But I have been so disappointed. The heat throw is terrible. I thought it was me being new, but I have made multiple batches following precise measuring and heating specifications. I emailed Vickie from Ky candle supply. She told me I must be doing something wrong, and said she had no other complaints from other customers. I wish she had been more help.

So dissappointed. I tried burning my tarts today. They have no HT at all. I'm so sad. I tried everything that was suggested. I am thinking I got a bad batch of wax. I saw on another thread that some others were dissappointed in KY Para-soy. Not a great start, but I am not giving up. I'm going to try another brand- I ordered 4794 and 415 from Peak. Hope it will go better next time.

I didn't have much luck in my testing of KY para-soy, but I generally use 9% in my tarts. Try remelting and adding another 3%.
Did you stir really well to mix the FO?
Georgia, What is your favorite wax for making Tarts? Thanks, again.

Thank you for your help. I tried all your suggestions and they have helped. I also think my nose was not working too well after smelling and resmelling all the new scents I ordered. After smelling my creations this morn, I am much happier with the results.
I ended up making 10 batches of tarts yesterday - my girls and I made them all night. It was a blast and I can't wait to burn them in a few days. I even dreamed about making candles last night. I think I'm already obessed. Is this a common problem? :smiley2: Thanks again.

Hi! Just made my first two batches of melts. All I smell is wax in my molds. Is this common or did I do somehting wrong? Will the fragrance get stronger as it cools and cures?
I mixed 1/2 Ilb KY Para-soy wax with 1/2 ounce fragrance - from Nature's Garden - Lick me all over, and Twilight in the Woods. Heated the wax to about 165 added fragrance, waited a minute or two - using Therometer and poured. 1st batch I took melting pot out of water as I stirred in fragrance, second batch I left in water while I stirred. Maybe I poured too hot or cold. I really don't know. Does pour temp make a huge difference?
Help!!!
Jokes Over!!

Using about 1 oz FO per pound of wax. I wait at least 2 days before burning. The last few days, I have been testing some that have cured for 2 or 3 weeks. No good throw with any of them.
