  1. Interesting technique. I never use scent in any luminaries because I thought people could pick their own scented votive. I don't know of any reason why you couldn't, though.
  2. That 45 days may be a misprint. It should probably say " 45 minutes or however long it takes for the fire department to put it out.":shocked2:
  3. I think you will have a tough time finding everything that you listed from one supplier. That said, here is a great place for silicone mold-making supplies. http://www.smooth-on.com/
  4. Here's a link to the 3M website for organic vapor respirators. These would probably help, but, as pointed out, good ventilation is critical. http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Health/Safety/Products/Catalog/?PC_7_RJH9U5230GE3E02LES9MG812H2000000_nid=K8BJG72CDHbeF3RH7CD92Ngl
  5. These work well in hurricanes. http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-WHITE-DARICE-CLIP-LIGHTS-W-ON-OFF-SWITCH-6-CORD-BLOWMOLDS-CANDLES-ETC-/120836964174?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c2271bf4e

  8. I asked because I was curious if you poured those as two separate embeds or if the artwork was applied after the candle was removed from the mold.
  9. Is that a candle or a luminary? Very nice in either case!
  10. Instead of lamp oil, you might consider disposable fuel cells. You would need to pour a knockout for the fuel cell or drill a hole for it in the base candle. They come in a lot of different sizes but 8hrs seems to be about the minimum burn time for the smallest. Here's a link to what I use in my luminaries. The 8 hr is what I use. http://www.candles4less.com/s.nl You might also take a look at this one. http://www.brightsettings.com/table-linens/Fuel-Cells-PHOLHD29-A59.html I can't get the "more info" page to load, so I'm not sure of the dimensions. 11. I've never dealt with Lonestar, but Peak has always given me great customer service. I'd give them a call.
  12. I'm far from an insurance expert other than having purchased policies for my construction business. Typically, if a private customer wanted proof of insurance, I'd call my agent and ask the agent to send an insurance certificate to them. This would include the types, limits, and dates of coverage. Also, the insurance company was required to notify them if I cancelled or changed coverage during the dates of coverage. When dealing with public agencies, proof of insurance was required as part of the bid package. I was always happy to provide such documentation and you should be suspicious of anyone who isn't or gets offended if you ask.
  13. I've never overdipped a candle, but I have overdipped a bunch of luminares. I struggled with overdipping until I started using 3% (about 1/2 oz./lb) Microcrystalline wax additive with a high MP paraffin. Dip temperature about 190-195. Make sure the candle is warm (room temperature) as well. Dip fairly quickly, around 5 seconds for the whole process. You'll have to play around a little to find what works for you. Also, consider using the Microwax for the candle itself. It really helps eliminate surface imperfections on my hurricanes. Here's what I use. http://www.candlewic.com/store/Product.aspx?q=c11,p169&title=Micro-180
  14. I've ordered from Peaks and Candlewic in the last 2 months with a VISA card. So far no problems. This is getting a little scary!
  15. Those are very nice. Good color combinations that really POP! Well done.
  16. This may sound like a stupid question, but were the sites in question using a secure network for the transaction? I only ask because I started to fill out an order at a site recently and was just about to submit my info when I realized that they weren't using a secure network URL. I hope you can get this straightened out. Identity theft can be a real hassle, not to mention expensive.
  17. I believe that if their computer is receiving e-mail normally from your website it has to be either their phone or their phone network.
  18. I admit I haven't tried, but I wouldn't use a mixer due to the possibility of entraining air in the wax. Not to mention the high probability that sooner or later I'd pull the mixer out of the melt pot while it's still running. Ouch!! I use paint stir sticks, free from the hardware store.
  19. Without knowing any particulars of the sale in question, here's my $.02. Don't be offended if someone asks for a discount. That is always the right of the buyer. Were I a seller, I would welcome it. First I'd try, ".......(this is the part where I'd opportunistically double the order for half the second coupon....)" All the way to, "I'm sorry sir, only one coupon code per order."
  20. I am going to assume the 70/30 split is in your favor. Is that pretty much the standard for consignment?
  21. I prefer the white label because it's easier to read, IMO. I like the hanging labels. Seems very convenient to display and showcases the tart well.
  22. A couple of items I have purchased recently using paypal were delayed due to this very situation, i.e. paypal failed to notify the vendor that an order was received. The vendor simply apologized and sent the order, so you have definitely gone above and beyond in your service. That still leaves the question, what is up with paypal?
  23. I buy a lot of merchandise over the internet. Usually, I receive 2 e-mails for a purchase. The first is an acknowledgement that the vendor has received the order for "X items at Y price plus shipping and the shipping method, UPS, USPS, FedEx, etc.", and also an estimated time that the order will be shipped and an order number. The second e-mail is sent when the order is actually shipped and usually includes a tracking number. To me, that seems sufficient and also the standard for most internet or mail order businesses. However, there will always be those customers who feel like they have a right to monopolize your time when they make a purchase.
  24. Thanks for the valuable advice. I'm not a chandler. I've sold a few luminaries more or less by accident after my Mother-in-law showed the one I made for her to the owner of a local flower store and one thing led to another. I included a set of usage instructions, but this article in the local paper got me thinking that might not be sufficient. http://www.durangoherald.com/article/20101231/NEWS01/712319943/Fire-rips-through-Durango-house I guess common sense isn't that common.
