  1. Bittercreek does three free 1/2 ounce samples with your first order, and then i think one free sniffy with every order $50 or more. http://www.candlesupply.com/ Laura
  2. maybe i am being too picky lol. At its best, how big of a room do you say the average votive should be able to scent? do you think most people light one and expect miracles from it, or do you think they might like a couple at the same time. just a thought i had =) laura
  3. ok i did it, they are curing for a couple days before i light them. However, even though i poured at the same temp, now they are cracking again!! When i added the oil right before i poured at 125, they didnt crack. Now they are again!! UGH!!! lol.
  4. really? ok, i will try it. i just thought that would be too hot. I thought the cooler the better, but i can understand the point about the oil not binding with the wax. thanks, i will give it a try. =)
  5. well i dont want to add it at a higher temp cause i wont pour til 125, because when i pour at the recommended temp, 140..they crack alot. I always add it right before I pour. If i add it a while before I pour, wont it burn off some scent? And yes, they have all cured. Sex on the beach cured 3 days, caramel apple cured 6 days, cookies for santa cured 3 days, hazelnut cured 3 days, and banana nut bread cured 5 days. oh and also its usually after about approximately 20-30 minutes and it starts to get some wax left on one side. I have the caramel apple votive lit now, and i can smell it pretty good, its in a small room, laundry room. but there is a little wax on one side. What do you think?
  6. I have been testing the votives ive been making. I know ive asked lots of questions just wanted to let you all in on exactly how ive been doing things so you could give me some more tips. I made the votives with ecosoya vb, and HTP 62 wicks. I do not add any additives or dye, just scent at 125, stir it in, and pour at 125. I place the wick in when it starts to set up some so it will stick to the bottom of the mold, and try to center it best as possible. I used 1 oz of oil to 12 ounces of wax for each batch I made. They all have wonderful cold throw, but hot throw isnt the best. Ive tested so far, the caramel apple, sex on the beach, hazelnut, banana nut bread, & cookies for santa. All the scents are from bittercreek north. They all pretty much leave some wax on one side. Sex on the beach: leaves some on one side, cold throw very strong, hot throw very light. Cookies 4 Santa: Good cold throw, Melts evenly pretty much, no scent throw Hazelnut: Strong cold throw, Decent hot throw, leaves just a little on the side. Banana Nut Bread: Strong cold throw, light hot throw, tunneling down the middle, leaving alot on sides. Caramel Apple: melting well, strong cold throw, very light hot throw What am I doing wrong? Im using plenty of oil. Pour at a cooler temp. Add the scent just before i pour. When i asked about the wicks in another post they mentioned wicking up. Will the wick be too big for a votive with a HTP 73? Should I try a different wick or different wax? I am just looking for suggestions. I dont have a ton of money yet to play with, so was looking for some good advice before I change a whole bunch of things. Thanks again!
  7. ok thanks, just wanted some seasoned advice before I switched wicks. I will try the HTP 73. thanks! Laura
  8. I just cant figure out if I should wick up, to HTP 73, or should I try a different type of wick? What is your opinion? This wax seems to need a very hot and larger sized wick! But I am not liking the curling! It leaves some left on the side. Please please help! Does anyone here make votives with ecosoya vb and what type wick do you use? I wonder if i should try a different wax too, i might order a sample of that KY votive/pillar. Let me know what you all think please!!! Thank you so much! Laura
  9. yeah maybe, i might have to try a new warmer. maybe its too old lol.
  10. Another question! Does anyone who uses ecosoya vb make tarts with it, and have you ever had a problem with the tarts not melting in the warmer? I dont know if my warmer is just a bumb warmer lol its an old electric one, or if they are just not melting well? Laura
  11. they are almost burned all the way, its been three burns. i have them lit for quite a while before i blow them out. i keep scraping the side off that isnt melting lol. i wonder if they just arnt centered completely? i tried to by sight...to center it right. How many of you use wick pins? Laura
  12. Well I made votives with ecosoya vb, and used htp 62 wicks. The scent throw is decent, and the melt pool is good however it doesnt extend all the way to one of the sides. I cant tell if its because the wick curls, and it just gets one side better, or if I need bigger wicks, like HTP 73. OR do you think its just because the wicks arnt perfectly centered? So I dont know if i should get bigger wicks, get some wick pins to be sure they are centered. or use a different type of wick? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Laura
  13. Finally something i can help with! lol i usually ask all the questions rather than answer any. lol. I use soy wax, and i have found the best ...in my opinion place to get SOY wax embeds...is kandiesspecialtyshop.com they are very highly scented or available unscented, large variety and they are just great! shes super nice to deal with!! Anyhow I make tarts and put embeds in them, so with a container you could do the same thing, fill it up most of the way but not as full as you normally do, let it set up, then pour the remaining part of the wax on top and put your embeds in, then when it sets up the embeds are stuck in there. =) I hope my input helped in some way! =) Laura
  14. I have read posts about letting containers cure, but for votives and tarts, how long should those cure? :rolleyes2
  15. what would you say you would mix to get maple butter crunch? maple syrup, buttercream and what? =)
  16. Hi! Can anyone tell me where i might be able to find Maple butter crunch fragrance oil? I need it real bad, a friend wants me to make some tarts in that scent and I dont know where to find it other than taylored concepts. I was wondering if there might be anyone else that carries it. Does anyone know where i might find that scent? Thanks! Laura
  17. thank you thank you thank you! that was perfectly understandable and I am not confused any longer! Yes i do need a scale. I think I will just do it that way, with the percentages from now on, thank you again! =)
  18. Thanks so much for all your help. I am still confused, if I use 12 ounces of wax, and then I add 1.75% fo, then I will have extra when I pour, then 12 ounces wont I? So should I use 1.75% oil, and then 10.25% wax? Im so confused! lol
  19. I need a little help, im not good with fractions and all that, well math in general LOL. So, heres the thing....I use 1.75 ounce of fo per pound of wax. If I am making 6 votives, approx 12 ounces of wax, then how much oil do I put in? I have just been making tarts, and I want to test some wicks in votives, so for 6 of the standard 2 ounce votives at 1.75 ounces per pound of wax for fo, how much do i add for the 6 votives? Thank you for your help!!! laura
  20. I dont mean to change the subject, but can you please tell me how you figure what that is in ounces, for example 8 percent is how much in ounces? Thanks! Laura
  21. hmm i dont know, i had very bad luck. five emails and no response at all, the oils were awful!! well my experience sucked lol
  22. Well, there isnt much left to test on this wax. I use it for votives and tarts. I get the same cracking thing from the tarts and votives. I do not dye my candles at all. And there is obviously no wick in the tarts. So all i am adding to this wax is fragrance for the tarts. I have tried 5 different scents in this wax, and no matter what they all get the round circular crack around the outer edge from when they settle down in the middle a little. So, I will try pouring at an even cooler temp then the 140 and see if that works, if not, it seems im out of options except to move on to a different wax. laura
