  1. I know that Cargill is NatureWax (or vise versa) but wondered if Cargill may have 'bought' the processing or something. I did some research on the ADM and can't find much about Candle Wax from Soy. Her is a link to "Soy News" that made me wonder about a "buy-out" as Cargill came out with the C3 about the same time and ADM stopped advertising or sending to suppliers.... Again - just a random thought:smiley2:
  2. I have read about people using the soy wax on their hands and it got me thinking about creating a soy wax hand cream/lotion/body butter. Has anyone tried this? The New Advanced NGI wax has a melt point of only 110 degrees - so it would melt (and does melt) on contact with the body.
  3. It might be easier to contact Just By Nature as they may know something and according to the link - they are really helpful. Just a thought - could the new C3 NatureWax acutally be ADM?
  4. It is Very interesting - thanks for the link! I just did a search and can Not find anything more on the ADM wax - wonder what happened to it? Was this company bought out by someone else? The link says that Just By Nature has the ADM - but it doesn't have it now - just the NatureWax.
  5. Thanks for the fast reply HenryK - I am anxious to see what kind of Hot throw you get with this (either one of the Advanced) wax. It will not help me to have a fantastic looking candle if I can't get a hot throw:sad2: .
  6. Beth thank you so much - that is exactly the kind of information I was/am looking for! I need the smaller measurements for testing of FO's and have resorted to using ML (which is liquid) as it is the closest thing I can get to what I need. The MMS fragrance calculator converts the oz to ML or tea/tablespoon - and this ends up being "closer" than trying to measure Oz (weight) with the scale I have now. Thanks again - I will go and look that model up now.
  7. I JUST recieved yesterday a sample of the new. I have 50# (eeekkk) of the old and will need to figure out what to do with it. Are you getting ANY hot throw from either of these? If so what FO's and at what percantage. I have gone all the way to 7% (with seeping on the tops) and still no real hot throw. Has anyone tried adding vybar - if so does it help? I LOVE the look of these finished candles - but really really need some help with Throw. I have tried WYW (as these FO's are suppose to be super concentrated) and regular scents that have worked for me in reg 100% Soy. Nothing is working. I have some candles that are at least 2 weeks old and curing doesn't seem to help either.
  8. Bluegrass CandleCocoon BitterCreek or KY
  9. I am in need of a new scale - mine is getting really old and I would like to get a new one. I want to get one that does the .01 oz measurment increment as the one I have now only goes to .1 and I can't tell the difference between .13 and .17 oz (example only). I have looked at OldWillKnot and there seem to be a good varity of different ones - different price range also. I am looking in the $50 +- range but will go a little higher if needed. Thanks so much:cheesy2:
  10. From what I understand the old new advanced had "carefully selected botanical oils" added and the new forumla is 100% soy. I have tried the older one - and can Not get a hot throw to save my life. I have the new formula (sample) on order to test. I Love the look of the finished candle - but if I can't get a decent throw - eeekkk. When I tried to increase the amount of FO to anything over about 5% I got seepage when the candle was placed in a warm location. When the candle was again put into a cooler area the droplets were reabsorbed back into the wax. But even at 7% (1oz per pound of wax) I can get no hot throw - even with super strong FO's.
  11. Hmmm interesting - thanks for the replies. I think some of the problem I have is that we live in Humid Florida! My really old bars have the best lather - I think that it takes forever for them to really cure here?
  12. Prairie - don't you get frosting when you pour hot?
  13. hmmm interesting that she makes it herself! Most of the "real" Black soap comes directly from Africa. It is made using plantain skins instead of lye and I am not sure you can do that here??? So glad that the link helped - I just picked one at random for the pic of the soap:p
  14. Okay Bruce - give over - what is your secret for the Great Lather?? My soap has good lather but my DH would like more. I have tried PKO and coconut and anything else I can think of to improve this = "Bubble bubble toil and trouble...";)
  15. This is more what I am use to for the Africian Black Soap: http://www.nasabb.com/nasabbnew/blacksoap2.htm
  16. What is the CBA soy wax? I have been testing the EcoSoya Advanced and can NOT get a good hot throw to save my life! I have tried different FO suppliers and % in the wax. I get BAD seeping at anything over about 5% (yup - I do live in Florida and notice this when the candle gets warm). I am looking for a "warm pour" Soy wax with no frosting and Good Throw.
  17. I tried the RRD wicks in the New Advanced EcoSoya and had no problem with the mushroom - but when I used the same wick in reg 100% soy it did mushroom - I have been testing the HTP and it is much better in the Reg soy. A slight curl but no mushrooming. I read on another post that the cotton core from Peak candles is really good in Soy. I have not tried these so can't say for sure. The Advanced Soy gave me lots of problems so I stopped testing it and have gone back to the 100% soy. I also find that the 51-31-18 mushrooms in 100% soy. Good luck.
  18. I put my molds into an oven that has been preheated to 175 - as soon as I close the oven door I turn the oven off. I leave my soap in the cooling oven for one hour. Take it out and let it get to room temp - then unmold it to cure.
  19. That is the Strangest looking Africian Black soap I have ever seen! It is usually a chocolate brown and kind of 'blotchy' looking. I got mine ages ago and still have some - so haven't looked lately for sites that carry it. It is usually made in a wheel - almost like a wheel of cheese - then cut into chunks. You can mush it up and add water - to get liquid soap. Oh sorry - I got carried away;) = anyway - that looks blue to me??
  20. I had more luck with the RRD in the EcoSoya Advanced wax - but in reg 100% soy I like the HTP - I have not tried the Peak cotton - I will have to go and check that out. BTW - I didn't like the EcoSoya Advanced as I could Never get a hot throw - but the RRD Wicks worked well and the candles Looked Awesome!
