  1. I was told that the candle had 3 layers and that most people test burn just the top layer, this does not give you accurate results (makes sense). I guess my question is why does the candle have 3 layers, I have notice that once my candles are about 2/3 burned the wick always drowns.
  2. Yeah, but the sticker on the bottom says "Trim wick to 1/4" before burning etc......." Im afriad that someone will just start trimming without looking first. I guess I need to create my own "This wick is perfect etc....."
  3. I have to agree, I have been adding FO at 120-125 and have had no complaints. Im testing the other methond to see if there is a noticable difference.
  4. Not sure if its just me but my wick (HTP) seem to self trim. They are forever at 1/4" after each burn. Call me stupid but are there some wicks that do not need trimming. When I trim the head (mushroom) off they drown. I measured all that I burn regularly and they were at 1/4 inch already without trimming.
  5. I haven't so far but this morning I poured a 16oz Pineapple (Peaks). I added the FO at 160, poured at 125 (ugly tops) and the cold throw is the bomb. Cant wait too burn it.
  6. I poured a candle this morning at about 125-130, it was the UGLIEST candle I ever made in my life. I think I will stick to pouring at 100-105. Im sure when I burn it the throw will be outta this world, but when you make soooo many at a time you just dont have time to go back and hit them all with a heat gun.
  7. I know I know I know, I have just had soooo many BAD testings, I finally found something that works and wanna stick to it. I guess I can give on the mixing.
  8. OK this sounds crazy, but I dont want the FO to seperate from the wax. I guess I can give it a good stir when added let sit (45 mins) to pouring temp, then stir again right before I pour.
  9. Thats what Im afraid of (burning off). I dont even heat my wax to 175
  10. I have only used METAL pouring pots, but I need something larger (not a commercial melter), will a plastic bucket work. Ha sanyone tried adding a spicket to one? I dont mean the buckets you used to wash your windows with I mean the large ones that paint comes in, like this http://www.europeanglass.ca/Commercial/Paint/Images/large_paint_buckets.jpg Im thinking that I would have to have a different bucket for each scent, im sure that there will be some residue in the cells of the plastic.
  11. I add mine at 120-130 and pour at 100-110. Is there a such thing as burning the FO off when adding to high?
  12. Just read your post again, looks like you just had the wrong wick. Cotton works best with soy. I use two HTP 104's for my jars, full melt pool less than 1/2" deep
  13. EL Mil Blend, no frosting at all. The lower (temp) I pour the better the tops are. I just have little patients sitting there waiting for 4-5 lbs of wax to cool. Last night it took at least 45 mins for 4lbs of wax to cool. I need to heat to about 130-135.
  14. Same here, thats why I add mine at a lower temp. I also make pure white candles (no dye) and heating the wax past 150 give the wax a yellow tint.
  15. I heat mine to 150, add FO at about 125 and pour at around 115-100. I stir like crazy (gotta mix the FO throughout hte candle).
  16. How do you decide which way your wicks will curl?
  17. Another STUPID questions, but I have to ask b/c I want a qaulity product. What if Im using the same type of jar different company?
  18. I use 2 HTP104's for my jars (4"), I get a full MP within an hour, about 1/4-1/2 deep. I have tried everything from 1-HTP1212 to 2-HTP1213 to 2-HTP83 (works well), but the 104 works best for me.
  19. I currently use a 16oz Aptho...... jar. Im looking into using some Honey Pot and Bulb styles jars (all have same diameter) do you test burn these? Im thinking since the melt pool is the same there is no need to test. PLEASE ADVISE!!!!
  20. I associate Fruits (Peaches/Mango etc...) as spring scents. But most people associate the flower scents as spring scents. What's in your line?
  21. Im looking into a fundraising project myself. Im working with a local church, a local dance group and a local cheerleading squad.
  22. Thanks, Im not expert but this is what I thought. Someone else told me that the wick is too large. I 2nd quess myself for a minute.
  23. It's 18 qts, thats quit a few candles (38 I think), how slow are you talking? Does it not matter that there is a temp setting, and were you using a slab or pellets?
