  1. I made lotion bars and the sugar cubes, so it had M&P. I've not made straight soap in them.
  2. Is it possible to get bright colors in white (goat's milk) soaps? I've always just made mine w/o coloring but thought I might try some layers or swirls. But on the sites I'm finding color charts it shows that in white bases the colors are more pastel and in clear bases they are bright. (that's with liquid coloring)
  3. I've not used the plastic candy molds, but hobby lobby has rubbery (maybe silicone?) ice cube trays for like $2.50. I bought the hearts of that and used it to make some different soap things. Worked just fine! HL has hearts, stars, ducks, teddy bears, and orange/lemon slices. Oh, and I didn't even have to spray them with anything...the soaps (and I also did lotion bars well, lotion hearts) came right out.
  4. Could it be taken out of the original box and shipped in a FRB? I'm in Indiana and we have yet to discover Ikea for whatever reason! LOL
  5. Well, I DO have my teaching license (I'm a SAHM now though). So Educating people is in my blood! LOL
  6. I think Christmas when I hear Choc & Cherries (chocolate covered cherries always come out in the stores around Christmas). So, I say choc. & strawberries...that makes me think Vday for sure!
  7. thank you both! I swear I searched and searched and searched...sometimes things are so hidden! LOL
  8. I've searched and found all sorts of info about what it is but not WHERE to purchase it!? Anyone know?
  9. Wow...okay. I suppose any kind of wax is different in it's own ways and has its own frustrations. I just kept reading tons of great things about palm (read great things about soy too but palm keeps pulling me back now). hmmmm...is there anyplace to purchase container palm where I can only get 1lb or 2? I don't want 10 if I'm just going to not like working with it. KWIM? I only got 2 lbs of soy and that was a good amount for me to start with.
  10. Is palm easier to learn than soy? I do have some palm/coconut votive wax that I planned on making into tarts. But I'm wondering if palm is less finicky than soy maybe it's something I'd rather work with for containers. I did a search but didn't really come up with very much beneficial about palm. Thoughts?
  11. Very possible. The wick is burned/black all the way down to the wick holder. But there is still 0.8oz of wax in there. Seems like a lot of waste? And I only got 10.5 hours out of it. The calculator thing said I could get 15 hours based on how it was burning during the first 3 burns.
  12. I just don't understand how it did fine for 10.5 hours and then all the sudden nothing. There's still wax. I can see the neck part of the wick holder thing. But there's still 1/4-1/2 inch of wick left above that. Is the wick just snuffing itself out? Will the wick not light at all? It lit for a minute or so. I went to let the dog in and when I came back it was out. Then I couldn't get it to relight What type of wax are you using? MillCreek 125 Soy Did you use any additives? If so, which ones and how much per pound of wax? Nope What FO (or FO's) are you using? How much FO per pound? Christmas Splendor, 6.25% What type of wick are you using? CSN12 and lastly... What type of candle are you testing? Votive? Pillar? container? How big around is it? Container, 4oz jelly jar, 2.75inch diameter
  13. I have done two 3 hour burns and then a 4.5 hour burn. I went to light my candle for today's testing and it won't stay lit??? Why?
  14. I did take pics of the first burn but then my batteries were dead so no more pictures. I did a 4.5 hour burn today and the hangup is totally gone and there was no cauliflowering in the 2nd burn or today's burn -- YAY!!! I plan on 4oz and 8oz for now. I do have 8oz jars. I guess if these other two (with the coconut oil) do okay then I'll make an 8oz to test. I wanted to start small incase I totally didn't do well and decided to stick with B&B LOL
  15. just subbing so I can keep an eye out. I purchased a preservative but it has parabens in it. There Optiphen Plus that is paraben free but when I was ordering stuff I didn't find it right away and I was ordering a whole ton of stuff from one place and didn't want to pay $10 shipping for 2oz of something. After I bought the other preservative I thought "hey...I have burt's bees stuff in the shower...should have looked at what they use." Well, it's called lactoperoxidase but you can't buy it (at least not that I've found).
  16. It just dawned on me that Christmas is in a week. With that being said, spring is just around the corner (even though winter hasn't technically started yet ) But as fast as the last couple of months have gone, I know spring will be here faster than I usually plan on it being (because it works around my schedule, ya know ) Anyway...what are usually some big spring/summer scents? For both candles and B&B ??
  17. THose were exactly the things I was trying to describe in my post on your original thread about how to keep people from opening them!
  18. I did MillCreek's 125 soy (GB415). No additives, just Christmas Splendor FO...at 6.25% (0.5oz FO to 8oz of wax). I used the 4oz jelly jars but there was only 2oz weight of wax in each. CT was excellent and HT has been excellent! I can smell HT in about 1/2 the house !! (1700sf house). I did 3 different wicks. CSN12, Eco12, Eco 10. in 4oz jellyjars Burn #1 - 3 hours. Burn #2 - 3 hours. Burn #3 currently going on (marathon/power burn). All three had cauliflower top after hardening back up after burn 1. Eco12 & Eco10 I quit at 2.5 hours into the 2nd burn. It was just burning WAY too fast (like 2 times as fast as the CSN12, which I calculated to be able to give 15 hours burn time) and the flame was pretty big during both burns. None of them had cauliflower after burn 2, but the CSN12 did have hangup. CSN12 is currently burning and the hangup is going away (it's been burning for almost 2 hours but I noticed the hangup going away in the first 1/2 hour.) I currently have two candles curing that I used some coconut oil in to try and help with the cauliflower. One has Jack Frost and the other has Lavender scent. Both have the CSN12. I'll test those this weekend probably. So for my questions... (1) The hangup - is it common for the hangup to go away after a 3rd burn? If it does go away, and I'm otherwise satisfied with the wick, does that make the wick/FO/wax combo a possible keeper? (given I test it again just to make sure) (2) If the hangup does not go away (or comes back or whatever), then do I "wick up" to a CSN14?
  19. Is it still free for shipping? I filled out all the info but then was afraid to hit submit because I didn't want a huge charge on my card. :undecided
  20. oh good grief! I finally found it under ornate ones! Thanks!!
  21. I watched that video but can't find the molds on the website!?
  22. I didn't mean to leave out anyone by asking why did you choose paraffin or choose soy, considering I have soy, beeswax, and palm waxes in my supplies. So, why did you choose whatever medium(s) you chose to work with?? and I'll go ahead and answer my own question now...I chose Soy because I had a lot of people asking for it. I also have palm wax and beeswax. I'm more for the natural items...we use cloth diapers on our babies and homeopathic remedies as much as we can (yes, there are times when an OTC medication is necessary) (not interested in the debate on whether soy is "natural" or not...I've done my research, I know there are new results coming out every day about soy that are not as wonderful as us "tree huggers" once thought).
  23. Actually, I do know that there are other waxes and I did not intent to start a debate either way. I suppose the better question would have been why did you choose the medium you did, but too late for that since I can't edit my post! :smiley2: So why did anyone choose what they did? and I'll go ahead and answer my own question now...I chose Soy because I had a lot of people asking for it. I also have palm wax and beeswax. I'm more for the natural items (not interested in the debate on whether soy is "natural" or not...I've done my research, I know there are new results coming out every day about soy).
  24. Why did you choose to go with paraffin or go with soy? just wondering...no real reason...
