  1. Stella I went out and bought this product to test for myself. I bought the stip type one. I am impressed. I used it in a metro jar and poured about 1 1/2 inches of soy wax into it. After the melt pool depth reached the bottom of the jar, I tested the 'hold' of the 'mountie' {for want of a better word} and it was stuck fast. I then put the candle in the oven at around 100 celsius for about an hour. Still stuck fast! Bonus....it wasnt terribly difficult to remove from the jar. More difficult than a 'stick-um' {which tend to just slide out} but not impossible. I also found that if I got the wick off centre, it pulled off with a bit extra tugging, so I could re-position it. I was able to do that within seconds of it being stuck down but I dont know if it would come away as easy if it was left for a while. I did buy the HEAVY DUTY one and used a piece about a half inch square. Thanks to the poster for the 'heads-up'
  2. I installed to my desktop {easy to find that way}, unzipped it, and saved it to my font folder. It installed automatically. Any yes, the new fonts do show up in AP. EASY PEASY!
  3. Thanks Dustpuppy, now that I know it *can* be done, I'll give it a try!
  4. Hi everyone. Is there a way I can increase the selection of fonts in the above program? Will any new fonts added to my pc, show up in AP. Thanks for any advice.
  5. I had to bring my poor old incontinent greyhound inside into the airconditioning. She has to wear pull up huggies with a hole cut into the back for her tail. Because of her age and frail health, the heat would have killed her. It was up around 40....and Im on the coast! Singleton reached 45 with the same predicted for tomorrow. Im having an outside stall tomorrow..*yikes*
  6. Oh damn it Tracy.....I was totally getting into the story....and then it finished! Now you '*have* to go over to the creepy old man so I can read the next chapter!
  7. Hi Richard, yes we have been to Maitland a few times. Its actually on this Sunday but we havent figured out how to be in two places at once! The predicted temp for Sunday is 29/30. I requested and was given a south facing stall. I have an instant up canopy but havent used it above about 25 degrees, so a bit nervous as to how things will hold up! Do you use one? if so, how hot does it have to get before you start to panic? I only use soy.
  8. Ok Richard, your forgiven, but next time ok? We are doing the ''Worlds biggest car boot sale'' at Newcastle on Sunday. Its an annual charity event for Hunter Life Education. Massive by all accounts. Your stall fee even gets you a four line add in the Newcastle morning herald supplement that lists all the stalls. Cant wait to get the paper tomorrow to see what competition Im up against! Still getting stuff organised.....thats why Im still up at 3am!!
  9. Oh Richard, now your going to HAVE to post a pic of your stall.....
  10. Hi all, I live in the land of 'milk and honey' but unfortunately not the land of 'endless choices of fragrant oils'. The majority of my oils come from CS and I am happy with most of them, however, I do question the accuracy of their leaf rating system, for example, Christmas Cedar. I lit a tart about a half hour ago and Im sitting here at the pc, 3 rooms away and its so strong, Im going to blow it out {this one still in the testing stage}. Now I understand that scent 'throw' and scent strength is not the same thing and that if I made this one with a lesser % of oil, the scent would still travel as far only not be so strong. Am I on the right track? Christmas Cedar has a rating of only ONE leaf. A lot of 3 leafers dont throw nearly this well. I use Ecosoya PB. I guess their leaf ratings arn't the same for all types of wax.
  11. Nix thats a brilliant idea! I have some of those somewhere......full of buttons I think! All they would need is a label on the side of each individual one. All stacked up nice and no more lost lids.
  12. I would contact the place you bought them from and ask them how its done. There must be a way, or they wouldnt sell them.....well at least you wouldnt think so.
  13. I have learnt that the bigger the shroom, the more 'fuel smell' it gives off in those oils that are prone to developing the fuel smell.
  14. Awesome job Richard and Tracey. You've sure come a long way in a short time! You make a great team! I've been at this for a year now and Im still trying to get hubby to get the damn wicks in the CENTRE of the t-lights! If you go into the mold making business, give me a yell!
  15. Hi Linda, I deal in Celsius so you will have to convert. Since the metro's are taller than they are wide, they cool faster than a wide jar. The ideal way for candles to cool is slowly, therefore pouring them hotter, allows them to cool slower. I heat the wax to about 80 degrees and add the dye {if im using it}. Cool to about 75 and add FO and pour about 65. I used to pour at 52 but experienced a few air pockets around the wick. The higher pour {65} still often gives me a hairline circular crack but there [so far} doesnt appear to be any air pockets lurking beneath. The circular crack is not really that noticeable but if your pedantic, just heat the top with a gentle hairdryer {I dont have a heat gun}. The top always resets lovely. Guidlines for pouring temps dont take into account different shaped jars. Even the same shape but a different thickness of glass can yeild different results. If soft pastel colours are used, imperfections dont show up as much! I live in a nice moderate climate where temperature extremes arn't a problem. Sometimes I put a box over the cooling candles and that helps to keep the temp of the whole candle {including top} uniform. Dont forget.....Im referring to CELCIUS temps. Meridith: Given that we are told ''a good melt pool is needed for a good scent throw", yes, a pathetic melt pool with major hang up and a GREAT THROW seems contradictory to what SHOULD happen! And with the problem child candle, Im using the lowest amount of FO I have ever used in any candle {6%}. Ive come to expect the unexpected.
  16. Girls, no need to apologize. Its all 'wick' related and interesting reading. The more thats written about a subject, the more I can read, and the more likely I am to pick up little nuggets of info :-) My Angel with a cnd 12 is limping along. Burn 5 and still major hang-up but a lovely throw. I'll burn to the end to see if it catches up but so far, Im not happy with it. I have some HTP 105's so thats my next plan for this one! Im understanding now, just what a MAJOR role, FO has in burn quality {amount of FO used, with this scent, doesnt seem to make a difference} I experienced this wick drama with Asian Amber as well. A lot of scents, burn beautifully in this wick/jar combination using a CDN 8. Just thinking out loud here> 'Clogged wicks' have me baffled. Now the wayward jar above, has a struggling tiny flame. Logic tells me the wick is not getting enough fuel e.g. its clogged. This same wick, does NOT get a shroom.......soooo.....am I right, in thinking that a big shroom, DOES NOT mean a clogged wick? Does a shroom mean that TOO MUCH fuel is getting sucked up by the wick? and that the wick cant burn the fuel off efficiently? Its probably basic 101 knowledge to you guys but its an ''ah ha'' moment for me! Understanding WHY things happen, would make finding a solution easier......well thats the theory anyway!
  17. Thanks for your replys everyone. I did burn the 8 and 10 all the way to the end and it was a dismal performance. The 12 is on the 3rd burn now, and contrary to what I first thought, so far so good {but not getting excited just yet!} Soy327, The CB -135 had beautiful tops when first poured but developed horrible lumpy tops on subsequent set ups. The CB-Advanced, behaved beautifully so, since CB-135 is supposed to have a better throw than the CB Advanced, I mixed them at a ratio of 1/3 CB-135 + 2/3 CB Advanced. I get a decent throw and smooth tops everytime. I think the CD and CDN's are similar, but the CDN's have a special wax coating. As far as how they perform and if the sizing is the same, you'd have to ask someone who's used them both.....Stella perhaps? I'd be interested to know the answer to that as well, e.g. is an 8 CD the same as an 8 CND as far sizing goes? The jar adhesion is very good. I might get the odd wet spot and frosting but Ive learned to colour my candles very pale pastels so wetspots and/or frosting isnt noticeable. My metro's are 226 grams {8oz?}. They are 2 1/2 inches diameter. I imagine that if I used a CND 16 or 18 I would have a roaring fire so maybe the CD and CDN's are not the same? No, no need to double wick this jar. Good luck.
  18. Hi everyone, Im having trouble wicking 'Angel' {local supplier}. Im using the same wax and jar that I use for all my scents. Most of the scents use the same wick size but with this one, Ive already gone up two sizes and still the flame is too small on second and subsequent burns. With this one, I didnt use dye and I cut the FO from 9% to 6% since I suspected something was clogging the wick {although no big shrooms}. Is it common to have to go up THREE sizes using the same type of wicks wax and jars? Using: 8oz metro CB-I35/CB ADVANCED 1:2 CDN 8 - IO and now on 12 Angel 6% The 12 gave a great melt pool and throw on the first burn but I suspect its going to go pear shaped like the 8 and 10!
  19. Cats, falling trees.....dont forget about husbands! I had a classic 'murphy's law' incident today. I had some jars that had wax left in them that I didnt want, so I melted them in the oven and then tipped the wax into an empty coke can and left it on the sink. Several minutes later, along comes hubby, picks up the can and thought he must have left some coke in it {he's the only one who drinks coke}. He tipped the remaining 'coke' down the sink.....WHAT THE H*LL IS THAT??...He got the shock of his life when red stuff started thickening around the sink hole. Could have been worse I suppose......he might have taken a swig!!
  20. Cooling the candles in an oven sounds great but I have never tried it for this reason: how do you stop the wax from slopping around in the jar when you move it to the oven? Even if I were to put the jars on the oven shelf while I poured, wouldnt the wax slop when I slid the oven shelf in?
  21. Its CS Baby powder and I had made them at %12. I have melted a few down and added more wax to take them down to %9. I'll let them cure and see how that goes. Ive learnt that more is not always better! It was so strong, I could 'taste' it when I walked into the room {and its a good sized room}.
  22. Hi everyone, I made the mistake of not letting some tarts cure before I tested them. They smelt great so went ahead and made a big batch. A week later I burnt one and it was way too strong. I didnt realize that a weeks cure time would make such a big difference! Can I just melt down the whole batch and add enough wax to bring down the total percentage of oil in the batch. It seems logical but has anyone done this and does it work ok? Thanks
  23. Yes CS Baby Powder is nice and strong but it does turn the melt pool an ugly grey colour. I cant do my candles a pale pink like I want to. They have to be a colour that doesnt show up the ugly grey melt pool once its solidified
  24. *yikes* I should have said its for soy wax.
  25. Hi everyone, Ive had a request for Bergermot {sp?}. Does anyone know of a scent from Candlescience that smells similar to it? I dont even know what it smells like! Thanks for any clues.
