  1. It looks like a ring tailed possum. I like it a lot!
  2. Thankyou both for your reply and yes it does make sense to not take shortcuts. Testing is so time consuming/expensive and frustrating but of course, necessary. Having said that, Ive just managed to produce a great candle {metro jar} using my fav scent after many attempts. Ive got my second favourite scent curing now.....fingers x'ed!
  3. Guru's advice needed please. Q1: I contstantly read that a melt pool should take one hour per inch of jar diameter. Does that mean a full melt pool depth e.g. 1/4 inch deep OR does it mean just having the complete surface area melted but not the full 1/4 inch? Q2: I often read about {and can understand the importance of} wicking for the last half of the jar. Now, to save time and money on testing, would I get a similar result if I just filled the container half full and tested from there? If that was succesful, I'd then do a full jar test, if unsuccesful, Ive saved some wax and FO. Does anyone do this? Thanks
  4. Hi everyone Quite often, my tarts have a much stronger scent {too strong sometimes} for about the first 3 hours and then settle down to a more milder scent {which I often prefer}. Does anyone know why this is? Could it be that Im using too much oil {I use 12 or 13%}. Since wax will only hold so much oil, maybe its the 'excess' oil that causes the initial strong scent. I want my tarts to smell the same from start to finish. I know, I know, I should just test them with a lower percentage of oil, and I will, I promise. Im just fishing for clues, before I waste any more wax. I use ecosoya PB. Thanks in advance for any 'clues'.
  5. CS Babypowder does it also, with several types of wax, jars, wicks that I have tried. All I can if I want to use this FO, is make the colour darker so its less noticeable.
  6. There's worse things in life than butt ugly melt pools......now can we all just kiss and make up........please:p
  7. Good points from both camps! Ok, Ive just lit the newly made one {well newly made 37hours ago}. This one is made using a light blue dye and 50% CB Advanced - 50% CB 135. The addition of the CB Advanced, at least makes the 'mud pool' smoother and less scary looking. Im hoping {well praying actually}, that the blue colour will look more 'compatible' with the discoloured melt pool. Using this FO in tarts, doesnt discolour the wax so why it happens, is a real puzzle. My daughter is a Science teacher, so I'll give her some 'homework' this weekend.....maybe she can 'shed some light' on this mystery. Thanks for your input. Cheers
  8. This fragrance is such a good seller in tarts for me, so Im going to offer it in jar candles. It looks like the discoloured melt pool is here to stay, so I'll just have to try to make it look less noticable by using a different colour dye chip. Dang....the pale pink is such a pretty colour! Hey maybe if I use a grey dye chip, the melt pool will turn pink??
  9. Thanks everyone! Using the same FO [CS baby powder] Ive used 2 different waxes, 3 different wicks, 2 different types of jars, 2 with {the same colour chip} and one with no colour and all have resulted in the same ugly grey melt pool. Im fairly sure it must be the FO. I have one curing now, ready to test tomorrow. Ive used the same FO [i love this scent and want it to work] but reduced the % to 8 instead of 10. Ive added a light blue colour chip so that at least, the grey top wont look so bad as it does against the cream or light pink wax. Now if I can just get CS Love Spell to produce a decent throw in Ecosoya Advanced or even CB 135........or a combination of both {Ive tried ever it all} I sure hope these jar candles turn out to be worth all the effort!!
  10. Hi everyone, has anyone had this problem or know what causes it. I have began testing candle jars {and ain't that a nightmare!}. I made a 226 gram {I think thats 8oz in your language?} Metro using CB 135, CS baby powder @ 10%, light pink dye chip and HTP 73 and 83. I got a nice melt pool and scent throw, however once the melt pool had solidified, it was an ugly grey colour. No wick bits had dropped into the melt pool. I also did the above only using CB Advanced with the same ugly result. I have poured a couple more, the same as above, only without the dye chip. I have used the CB Advanced with a different fragrance and dye chip and did not have the ugly solidified pool {although I've about given up on CB Advanced because of its lack of scent throw}. Since I now have to wait 2 days before I can find out if the dye chip is the culprit, I was hoping one of you guys could give me a clue as to why this happens. e.g. is it only certain scents or dyes that are a problem? The wax, once resolidified, is seriously ugly! and most definately unsaleable in that condition. Thanks for any input.
  11. Frankincense and Myrhh smells like Coca-Cola IMO.
  12. Every now and then I'll get stuck in and get everything organised. For a couple of days, I'll know exactly where everything is. By about day 3, its kaos again. I had to laugh when Debra said she finds things she didnt know she had. My daughter still reminds me of the day she decided to organise my pantry and found 7 jars of Mint jelly! Im not even organised enough to write a shopping list. Its a case of ''hmmm, wonder if we need that?, better get a jar incase''.
  13. Hello everyone. I just want to introduce myself and say what a fabulous forum this is. I started making soy wax melts 3 months ago {for myself, since I was paying a fortune for them at Dusk}. I took some to work to 'show off' and the rest is history! Ive only just now {too busy making melts} started experimenting with the jar candles {wicks are a bugger to get right :-(}. I love it....love the smell in my house, and love it that people actually pay money for something Ive created. Im just sorry I didnt discover the 'wonderful medium of wax' a long time ago. Anyways, I have a lot more reading in this forum to do....who needs sleep! Have a great day everyone.
