  1. yes prarie I did also find a "low end" candle at Wallymart. It was by candlelite and I wrote another thread on it. It was about 10-12 oz and 3.99 ! It burned beautiful and scented the whole house. This was in the same week I purchased an Aquiesse luxury fragrance tumbler candle. It smells great but mysteriously like bath and body works warm vanilla sugar and it was 30.00 and burns nothing like the cheapy but it was in beautiful packaging.I let it burn for 4-5 hours and it still has a lot of hangup and the wax discolored after the melt pool cooled but if I did not know anything about candles I probably would have been ok with it because the throw is so strong.I just don't know now because I am at a point where I'm finally starting to feel good about my wax blend/wick combo and throw and would like to start selling by spring (after insurance/legals of course) but I am having a hard time deciding to get custom printed boxes $$$$$ or get boxes from a place like papermart.com and add my custom printed labels on them?? What have some of you done regarding packaging?
  2. Hi everyone I last purchased my cdn wicks from the scented bean but this time I ordered the same size wick from JBN because I had to order more things from JBN so I thought I would get it all there. The question is...why do they look so different?is this normal that different suppliers have different cdn wicks?I am using a cdn 10 and the ones from JBN look alot skinnier but are labeled cdn 10.Has this ever happened to you? Or am I just being a worrywart?I have a bunch if tins to pour and I want them to be perfect. Thanks
  3. Thanks everyone, I bought one of each to try but I will probably go with the plastic because of the cost and variety.
  4. Do you think its better to use silicone or plastic trays for cute shaped melts?I know the plastic ones are much cheaper but I was wondering if anyone had experience with both and what are the advantages of one vs. the other before I spend $$$. Thank You
  5. do a search on youtube for zionsville candle and some videos come up on how to make candles,I wonder if it is the same company?
  6. Hi, I am playing around with tart making for holiday gift giving.I have quite a few wax samples and I was wondering what you thought of these waxes for tarts..... igi 4786 KY para/soy blend cargill naturewax P1 or if there are any more you would suggest?? Also do you have to put any additives in for making tarts besides FO and color?are there any advantages of additives in tarts. And last question does it work like candles as far as 1 oz or so FO to 1 lb wax?? Thanks and sorry for the long question but I read ALL the posts on tarts/melts until 1:30 am and could not narrow down answers but then again I could have been sleep reading.:embarasse
  7. One supplier I spoke with told me Yank** uses Sasol wax which is straight paraffin but no one knows the additives they use.
  8. Trappeur-I too would buy these in a heartbeat.I will give it a try and make some fun presents with all the P1 I have.Did you add any additives besides color and scent??Also do melts work like candles i.e 1 oz FO or so to 1 lb of wax? Thanks in advance.
  9. I have been working with IGI4630 and I really like it ,it has great HT/CT and is a one pour wax.
  10. I have only purchased a few scents from Berts and they are great. They had the best cinnamon vanilla but it has been discontinued and I can not find one even remotely close. The shipping is very quick.
  11. Hi everyone, I would like to find some brown candle tumblers that would be in the 8-12 oz range either brown smoked glass or brown frosted.I did find some at candle cocoon but they are being discontinued.Does anyone know of any other source for these????
  12. Hi everyone, I too will try these mixes,I can't wait. What wicks would you use in the 75/30 mix and the 50/50 mix?? I will make both in a 3 1/2 diam tumbler. Thanks
  13. I have their catalog in front of me right now and yes,it says it is soap safe,cosmetic/hair care safe.
  14. I'm fairly new to the art of candle making and have been pretty hard on myself as far as perfect containers, packaging and waxes that I test and so on etc.I know we all want to make the "perfect" candle-one that burns well and has a great throw so I went out on a very expensive mission to see just how well the "high end" candles burned compared to my own testers and here is a little of what I found.I am testing with soy so I purchased primarily soy candles but a few were a soy blend.I paid any where from 20.00 for 7 oz to 38.00 for 10 oz and so far I've tested 6 different brands that have beautiful packaging and a great scent throw but they burn about the same as mine do except some of their wicks are off center and one of them was very underwicked, just as the room filled with their great scent the wick was barely able to stay lit.So what I think I'm trying to say here is I think it may be all be in the packaging that makes these candles sell.If I did not make candles would I buy one of these?probably yes but I would not be a repeat customer and THAT is what I'm working on, not just getting someone to love your candles but to want them again and again. So do you think the average consumer really pays attention to the burn quality or do they purchase just for scent and looks??? Thanks for reading and your opinion.
  15. Oops again, I did get the plastic lid from GL but there is no hole in it so David @ GL said to poke a hole so the lid fits nice.If I were to do this, is there a good way to do it so it looks nice and does not bend the edges say from a hole punch???
  16. oops, I forgot to add .....the soy I have been testing is 464 and the Carisa tumbler is 2 1/2 diameter. Thanks everyone.
  17. just wondering if there are any lid options out there besides plastic?also when pouring soy what do you think is a good test starting point for wick size.I have htp-cd-zinc-lx sampler packs and just need an idea where to start.I have been using an 8 to 9 % FO load for testing.
  18. Hi, I got a 'sniffie' from SOS of this scent(not enough to pour a candle) but enough to smell it oob on a blotter and it seems really close.IMO out of about 30 of their scents I have tried I only purchased 12 full size FO.If they still have the sniffie program going on try it out.I think you get 5 sniffies for $ 1.00 plus stamps so they can send them to you.I was so glad that I got the sniffies first or else I would have spent $$$$$$ on FO I would have never used.
