  1. I really appreciate all your help and will NEVER offer triple scented candles again unless I have 3 layers. I know that I couldn't triple scent my mottling wax at all. I could barely put .5 oz per pound or I was wringing my votives out. Is there a specific place where I can order FOs that work well in 6006 or do I need EOs for that wax??? I have so much to learn. but I refuse to give up. I love making candles too much to do that. Thanks again:D Alyce
  2. Thanks Vicky, I guess what I first need to do is decide on the jar I want to use and stick with that one jar. I use all different size jars and thats probably where my problem begins. If I stick to one or possibly 2 jars then work on my wax problem next then my wicks. Test, test test. I probably need to stop triple scenting my wax, and test some more. thanks so much for your help Alyce:grin2:
  3. thanks Bruce. I had no clue that triple scenting my candles could be causing this problem (along with other things that need to be checked). The reason why I blend my wax is because using just 6006 has very little throw with many scents. By blending it with parrafin 50/50 the scent is strong. I also add 1.5 oz of FO per pound of wax. Is there a place that sells FOs made for 6006? That would solve a lot of my problem.... Thanks so much for your help on this. Alyce:grin2:
  4. no cold throw a year later. so its not just you. I now use a parrafin, 6006 blend. The throw is great. Alyce
  5. My problem has always been that the tops of my jars soot like crazy. Is there a wick that I can use in my jelly jar candles with a parrafin/soy blend that is totally soot free? This is all thats keeping me from getting sales for my candles. If there is such a wick, where in the world can I get it??? Thanks for listening:D Alyce
  6. Thanks so much for your help. WOW what quick responses!!! Alyce
  7. When I make candles or tarts using mottling wax, I put 1 oz. FO per 1# of mottling wax. The end results is that I get seepage of FO. It seems that when my wax begins to mottle, it pushes out the FO. Am I using too much FO? I want my candles to smell good and strong; but the seepage is a pain. I have to pack my candles in a container with paper towel to absorb the excess FO. Any help would be appreciated greatly Alyce
  8. ALL my aluminum molds, metal molds AND plastic molds leave HORIZONTAL white streaks. Even my votive molds. They seem smooth to the touch so I thought it might be my wax; but it does it on all my pillar waxes. I have used 3 different pillar waxes with the same white streaks. I really hate that effect when I'm looking for a smooth vibrant color. I've poured at temps ranging from 75 to 200 degrees with the same crummy streaks. Any help with this at all will be greatly appreciated. Alyce
  9. I was just at their website checking out the 1260 and the microwax. OUCH, that microwax is costly. If 1260 is cheaper, I'll try that one first. The MP is 154-166 Thanks again.
  10. I just checked the MP on the one the company recommended for making hurricanes. its 140 to 145. What were they thinking. I did get a single pour votive from them with a "congealing" point of 157 to 167. However its recommended for Votives and small pillars. I wonder if that would cause a problem making a hurricane. its very hard and I don't think I'll be able to imbed pictures in it either. very hard to work with, to color and to clean molds afterwards. I really don't like it at all. So far the canes I'm making will be with the electric specialty bulb and plug in. A low mp wax should be ok for that don't you think? Is that a bad idea too? Until I can find a wax on DPSwax website that would work for canes, I will be lost. I have to use them because I get "free shipping" via my friend picking it up when she visits me. Eventually, I'll be using votives in my hurricanes and will need a harder wax for that. So if you think I can use the mottling wax with the 140-145 mp for electric hurricanes. Please let me know how to remove the mottling effect so I can get a smooth unblemished shell. Thanks to all of you wonderful people:highfive: with your fantastic ideas and help. Donita, I think it was you who said I didn't need to get the Hold A Mold. You were right!!!!!!!! Its probably much easier your way. Thanks so much:yay: Alyce
  11. I can say what I want about my daughter in law being a "dumb blonde", lol but I just lit a votive (in votive holder) and put it down into my Hurricane shell. and said SEE THAT RING ?????? She informed me that it was the ring image from the top of the votive holder WANDA? COULD THAT BE YOUR PROBLEM TOO??????? So now if only someone could help me remove the mottling effect from the wax. I will be a happy camper LOL Alyce
  12. I get the same ring around the hurricane shells that Wanda was refering to. Today I used R2540 fully refined paraffin wax for pillar molds. It was a sample and the type of wax recommended by the company as the one their customers used for canes. I let my temp. get out of control and it was over 220 deg. I thought that might be the problem. maybe I needed to let my water sit longer before starting. I did the pushing the mold down into the water ahead of time and it was just where we wanted it. The last/first time I tried making one, I thought I'd just play around with some mottling wax I had, and I thought the mottling was the ring problem. I don't see any reason to buy any other wax at this time when I have 2 cases of this mottling wax. HOWEVER, I want to REMOVE the mottling effect. I know it can be done but totally forgot what I need to use to accomplish this. Also. Someone mentioned to Wanda to use UA and Micro, and to that I want to say DUH!!!!! I've never heard of them. Where can I get these things and what do they do??? What about steric acid? Oh by the way, I put pictures in my canes and so far they look C R A P P Y. he he he. HELPPPPPPPPPPPP Alyce:cry2:
  13. when using a heat gun, should i use it on the outside of the metal mold, or unmold it first? these molds I have are simple aluminum molds 3 x 4 and 3 x 5 and 3 x 6, nothing fancy
  14. They are all pillar candles that I am having a problem with. I do use the same wax for the chunks as I do for the overpour. My chunk pillars look just like the chunk pillars in the gallery thats why I mentioned it. I haven't made any more since my last one spewed like molten lava out of one of the spaces where the chunk melted. So I'm left with the option of either using a smaller wick or overdipping. I'm afraid that overdipping would cause the chunking effect to disappear and using a smaller wick would cause the flame to go out. Alyce
  15. Sorry, I posted in the gallery by mistake the first time. I've come into a problem when burning chunk candles, and other than hitting the outside with a heat gun, or trying to find a clear wax for overdipping; when the heat hits a chunk and melts it, all the wax pool pours right thru the hole it leaves. So is my wax pool too wide? Is my wick too large? I don't know. I love the look of the chunk candle but won't sell any because of this problem.
