  1. Thanks for the explanation! I love all the reviews, thank you for sharing! dana
  2. My containers look horrible after a burn....(464). Lumpy, bumpy, crater-y, etc.... Is this characteristic of soy wax, or just the type of soy wax I am using? Thanks in advance, Dana
  3. Hope it goes well, can't wait to hear what you decided on! (Me, I'm no where closer to a name....:tiptoe:) Dana ~
  4. I love ICS Cactus and Sea salt!! I also use 4627....just curious...do you always use 10% fo with this wax? (I've never used more than 6%) Always eager to learn from others, Dana Ps thanks for the reviews! I need to order from ICS again!
  5. Hi Jill........Have some more testers on the way...have not found yet a supplier and have not tried a blend..... I still want it though!!! Not giving up.... dana
  6. My samplers are still en route. My question is.....why the amber bottles on the samplers but plastic bottles for the large sizes? I've been meaning to ask them, I've only ordered samplers so far..... Can't wait to hear what you got and how they do for you! dana
  7. I've never mixed waxes but I'm anxious to hear how testing goes for youall! :highfive: dana
  8. Thanks for the input I'll get some CD's to try! dana
  9. I do see some frosting, or what I think is frosting, on the 4oz jj. I would think it would be much more obvious with color, but since I am new to soy and don't color my candles I have no experience with this.... CS had recommended a ECO 10 which of course was way too big.....I had tested ECO 8 and 10. Of course I didn't order any ECO 6's so I need to order those. Maybe I will look into the CD's as well from a different supplier. Thanks for the info! Dana
  10. Hmmm the wicks CS recommended seem to be too big I'm using ECO's......and wow do the tops look horrible after burning :rolleyes2 I think I need to wick down some. CS recommended ECO...does anyone use these with the 464? I remember reading that a lot of people use the CD wicks with this wax. CS didn't have those. I do have some of their CSN wicks for my palm wax, but I don't know how they compare to the CD's. Right now the containers I am testing are 6oz tins. I also poured a few 4oz JJ, but I don't think I'll be sticking with that container so that isn't as big of an issue. Ah, the joys of testing......*cha-ching* Thanks Dana
  11. That makes perfect sense I don't color my candles so frosting isn't an issue... Thanks for your help! dana
  12. Thanks for the advice, Tootie. Awesome that you don't have any trouble with the tops. Mine definitely need improvement Being totally new to soy, what is it about the 464 that you would like to improve? Thanks, Dana
  13. Well I tried again and made some more testers with my 464 yesterday. When people say soy is a totally different experience, they aren't kidding! To put it bluntly, my tops are not so pretty. The ones that I poured a little cooler look a little better (but not as nice as my 4627). CT is very good already though. Anyhow, my questions are these: I know pour temp is important, I'm trying to understand why, and apparently varies greatly. Am I correct in assuming that the differences in how my tops look can be attributed to my pouring temp? Also, I understand that soy has a longer curing time than paraffin. Does this affect throw only? (in other words, if I am just testing my wick/burn should I still wait several days or can they be tested sooner? Using the wax was a breeze.....now to get the testing down and get them a bit nicer looking.... Thanks everyone for your help dana
  14. I feel for you... I cannot for the life of me think of an appropriate business name for my company. (Even though I don't sell yet, I'm working towards that) I've been pondering this for over a year now, and it is very frustrating. How can I have a business and can't think of a name!!!! Best of luck to you in your search. I wish I could be of help, I'm just here to support and say I totally understand... Dana
  15. Sounds like I better do a search and find out what kind to get.... thanks! dana
  16. Hi Jill, I am so glad to know I am not the only one familiar with Aromatique Smell of Christmas! I have about given up, thank you for giving me the idea to mix FO to get something similar instead continuing to search for samples that are no where near what I am looking for. And I know it is hard for people to suggest things if they haven't smelled it. I so appreciate the input from everyone, thank you! dana
  17. Thanks everyone for the advice.....huh, I don't even HAVE a heat gun yet but I am looking forward to getting some new waxes to play with. I surely appreciate everyone's advice! I'm sure as I get started I'll have more and more questions!!!! Dana
  18. I tried the Smell of Christmas from LoneStar, it is not at all like the Aromatique of the same name.........unfortunately dana
  19. Hi Tootie! I've read a lot of your posts regarding your work with 464, testing, etc. So glad you've shared all your trials and successes! So.......if soy doesn't do well in any kind of heat, for those who use soy......... what do you do in hot weather, for those of you who sell/show/ship??? I thought about doing a blend, but thought maybe I should start with just the soy first. I have no idea, I'm completely overwhelmed..... My soy candles look even worse today, lol, seems they are oozing oil, my FO I can only assume, since my a/c is off? Whatever it is, they are a complete disaster, lol.... Gonna try to pour again and see if I can do any better. I'm pouring the 464 it in 6oz tins with ECO wicks (I don't have any CD). I don't use dye and I try to keep my FO at 6%. Thanks! Dana
  20. I am trying to find something similar to something I used a few years ago. I got it at a department store. I *think* it was Aromatique "The Smell of Christmas". It had tree smell, and maybe fruit and spice like clove or cinnamon, Oh, does anyone know what I'm looking for and where to find a FO similar? I have tried the ones at CS and LoneStar's Smell of Christmas, but that wasn't it.... Ideas anyone? Thanks Dana
  21. I've decided to start making soy candles. (Currently I'm a 4627 user). I am overwhelmed with the choices, probably even more so than when I chose a paraffin wax a year ago. My *only* wax experience is with 4627, and CS Glass Glow (which I've dabbled in once or twice). I'm ready to get some waxes to start testing, and I know soy is a completely different ball game. In my last CS order I got 10# of 464 to try...I tried pouring a tester yesterday...:rolleyes2 It smells wonderful today, but I messed the tops up I guess because I bumped my table when they were setting up. Anyhow, I'm reading over the old posts here, and I know soy wax preferences are as varied as there are waxes. Anything in particular I need to read/know before I dive deeper (yes i know read read and test test test)? I do have a question about the 464 before I go any further than that, I heard there are issues with this wax and hot weather? (like outdoor venues or shipping?) Just thinking ahead and trying to avoid future problems... I am definitely wanting a 1 pour container wax at this point, and I'd like to maybe try some tarts. Any suggestions, advice, recommendations, resources, etc, I'm all ears. Oh, and supplier wise, I'm in the FL panhandle. Thanks in advance! dana
  22. All good ideas How's the testing going? I'm using up the last of my 4627 this weekend and trying to decide if I am going to reorder it...I am thinking of switching to soy and starting all over............ dana
  23. Hi I use 4627 and for me the HTP wicks work the best. I tried zinc, eco, rrd, and lx. In my (very) limited experience I have found I have to wick way down from what most suppliers recommend for my wax. For instance, in a 2.75" diameter jar (jj type) I usually use a HTP 41 or sometimes have to go up to a HTP 52. The best burn for me in a 3" diameter jar was to double wick HTP 41. I was unable to single wick it and be happy with the results. Since you are looking for other wicks this information probably won't be of much help. I'll be watching for others input as I am always looking to improve and learn, and I hope they will be able to help you! Good Luck Dana
  24. Sure will ... it is my first purchase from them as well. :smiley2: thanks dana
