  1. I asked the same question when I started making gel candles and you are right you need to have the scented embeds gel safe also.
  2. I can't help with the re-batching question but when you first cut CP soap it will be on the soft side - it will start to harden up as it sits and is exposed to the air. HTH
  3. I have used cocoa powder before and have not had that problem but it was not sweetcakes fo ,though. Just keep notes on what you did. Notes are very helpful if you want to refer to a certain batch you made. Believe me, you may think you will remember but after a time all the batchs seem to blend together. One other thing I do - is when I have a certain fo react differently in soap ( accell trace, in this case change color, etc) I make a note right on the fo label that way I have the info in front of me when I go to choose it. Happy Soapin'
  4. Cute label !! maybe if you just change the color of the label on the bottle by the bears leg, it might mpt blend in.
  5. I have had Lily of the Valley fo turn my soap pink when I added it to the soap - just a reaction between the soap and fo - but it changed back to white the next day so there is still hope for your sandalwood.

  7. I agree with Blest2BAmerican with the exception of changing name for wholesale accounts. I have a Bible verse on my labels. These have been very encouraging to Christians and non Christians alike. I have certain people that continue to buy products from me just for the verse being there (they also do like the products). The bottom line for me is that if I can encourage a couple of people every week, the amount of product I sell really does not matter as the Lord always provides.
  8. My experience using lard, tallow or crisco is that it leaves a soap scum plus there was not much lather compared to the veg oil soap that I make now. Could be just the recipe I used, don't know. I am not bashing those recipes that use those ingredients I am just stating my ecxperience with those. When I frist starting making soap I rendered the fat of many different animals - what a mess - so I am so thankful for my current veg oil recipe.
  9. I use my regular soap recipe and add pumice ( 1 TB - at least - pp of oil) and orange EO ( or a mixture of citrus EO - orange, lemon etc) - works great for the greasy hands around here.
  10. Very interesting site Robin - Thanks for sharing:smiley2:
  11. Try here - they have a couple of your ingred you are looking for plus alot of other intereting things. HTH http://www.lotioncrafter.com/store/home.php?cat=252
  12. I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to toss it out or to remelt it - let it sit for a bit and see what it does. It could just possibly be that the scent accelerated trace and it did not get all incorporated into the soap. If there was no stinging then is possibly isn't lye pockets. To me it sounds like you are a little heavy on the FO, but some prefer it that way. HTH
  13. Hi Connie and welcome. I thought I had made just about everything until I found this board also.
  14. Congratulations on your first batch. As for the dreaded "zap" test, I personally don't do that, I just wait a couple of weeks then try the soap, if it gives me a drying feeling, I let it sit a little longer. Have fun!
  15. Very nice!!! - Just think of the valuable information you learned to get this good lookin' soap. :smiley2: Hope you kept notes.
  16. I would be also interested in any reply's. As I have lots of potpourri on hand, it didn't go over well for me.
  17. Was reading here: http://www.cranberrylane.com/soapmaking.htm And came across this - are you wanting to make "transparent soap" ? "Transparent Soap: This soap is made clear by adding solvents such as alcohol to prevent crystals from forming as the soap cools. Transparent soap is often referred to as Glycerin Soap. However, this is a fallacy as glycerin is not needed to produce a clear or transparent soap. This soap can be drying to the skin." This was quoted from the cranberry lane site
  18. Beautiful!!! They may even darken some more but that will just add to beauty of it.
  19. I agree with the others on making a smaller batch for your first time. A one or two pound batch of soap is a good amount to start out with. If you like this recipe, just do as Rebecca mentions and cut it down. We don't want to discourage you but don't want you to get overwhelmed. With a smaller batch it will be more manageable and fun for you. As for fo I used 1/2 to 1 oz per pound depending on the fo I am using.
  20. Just took it for granted you wanted a soap recipe - that's why I said run it through a SAP chart.
  21. Make your own recipe up - sub it for another oil from a recipe you like and run it through a SAP chart and try it.
  22. Don't know if this helps but - I made up some lilac bath salts one time - no color added - and the fo turned the salts to a orange color. Imagine orange lilacs. How about mixing just salt with the purple color and if it stays purple - layer your green scented with the unscented purple.
  23. Was looking for something and came across these http://www.ellensessentials.com/sampakinfo.htm - they look kinda neat.
