  1. Yes, some logs just look longer than others.
  2. Every time I think we have run out of projects, a new one pops up. Billie (my better half around here) saw an interesting design on some website somewhere. She wanted to try it so we made six blue and gray bars in a small flat log mold I had made some time back. The FO was Cool Water. They have not been trimmed yet, but of course we were so happy with them we (She) decided we must have a BIGGER mold. So I made this 30 inch'er that will make twelve bars. Our first batch here is pink and lavender with an FO of Black Raspberry Vanilla. They do look and smell yummy. I fear now that the next mold upgrade may not fit through the garage door.
  3. Yes, I just saw the thread on Bluegrass Candle Supply. Cool... My wife has already signed up for their newsletter.
  4. My wife and I have lived in Indy all our lives, except for a few years at Purdue in Lafayette. You are probably a lot closer to many great suppliers now. There are many in Ohio, and almost none close to Indy. Best wishes.
  5. Yes Karadawn probably feels a bit trashed on. Personally, my comments were directed more at Uncle Sam and not Karadawn. The frustration comes from past experiences where similar programs just introduce bureaucracy, and add no value. I hope we did not totally scare her away. :tiptoe:
  6. Understand, but do we complicate the world for everybody else because of a few morons, who will no doubt remain morons after finding out how to get past any government certification?
  7. I am new myself. There are so may variables it makes me crazy. There are multiple types of waxes and soy blends, wick types, FO's, container sizes, wick sizes, ... and they are all interrelated. The good news is that there is a lot of help on this website you can research. Then there will be a lot of testing, failures, and more testing until things start to work right. It also helps that my wife has the art brains, and understands this a lot better than I do. :rolleyes2 Have fun.
  8. Very bad idea. a. It would not improve safety. b. It would cost money and paperwork, plus tax payer dollars (more of our money) to administer such a program. c. Some ambitious Barney Fife government official would eventually be shutting businesses down because their melting units were 1/16 inch to close to the wall. Take a look at what has happened to OSHA regulations and related court costs over the years. That was another good idea gone completely insane, thanks to government "improvements".
  9. Based on these links, it is like others have said. They just look big in the picture because of the angle, or maybe because there is no frame of reference. For example, if Soapfreak's beautiful Lemon Lavender picture had a dime showing in front of the bars, you would see that they are just normal size bars of soap.
  10. We should try the freezer trick ourselves. We tried to make a platform contraption to lock a 24 inch long PVC pipe onto, with an air valve and small hole leading up to the bottom. The plan was to just push it out with a tire pump. (Sounded good at the time.) We ended up pushing the soap out (with much difficulty) using a soup can and broom stick that just fit into the 3 inch tube. We had sprayed the tube with cooking oil, otherwise we may have never gotten it out. I think we need a better gasket system because it seemed to be leaking air. We have not had a chance to try it again. We also learned that 24 inches it probably too tall. When pouring the soap in, we poured three different colors alternating through them a couple of times. We did not get color layers or patterns, just a blaaa color all mixed together. It was fun, but the soap will not leave our bathroom. :rolleyes2 Live and learn.
  11. You typically are making soap in a large mold (loaf or brownie style) then cut into bar sizes after it sets. It's sort of like slicing bread or a pan of brownies. However, if you have done some really cool swirls and colors in the mold, you want to take pictures of the whole thing before you cut it to pieces.
  12. Wow. Those are absolutely beautiful. Very nice.
  13. Very nice bars. They look like some sort of mystical clouds. I love it.
