Wow! That's great CS!
-
Yes it can happen. Some suggest adding a bit of vanilla FO to the citrus scents to get rid of the fuel smell.
-
I LOVE bakery scents, so needless to say, I am drooling over your soap! Good job!

Thanks for the link. This is kind of how I think I am going to approach testing, let me know what you all do...
1. Make the candle and wait for it to set up before testing wicks. Usually overnight. Do a 2 hour test burn, 4 hour test burn and burn to the bottom (not all the way becuase I don't use a tab on the test wicks and they fall over)
2. Pour another candle with the final wick with a tab.
3. Let it cure for 48 hours to a week. Test burn again with the 2 hour, 4 hour and burn to bottom while evaluating throw.
If I am not happy with the throw (my wax reccomending 10%) then I will either increase it or look for another FO from a different supplier.
Am I on the right track???
I would add:
1. Do power burns, around 6 hours.
2. Do tests with wick trimming, and no wick trimming.

Thanks, Brenda! I signed up at The Scent Review board.

I'm still in the research stage of making CP soap and I should be all set in about six months. The first scent I'd like to try is Gingerbread Man. In general, does this FO behave well in CP soap? Any recommendations?

You may also have to wick DOWN with tins (compared to glass with the same diameter) because they tend to get hotter than glass, more so when you get towards the bottom.

Wow, this is pretty scary! Are there EZ up tents that are similar to the Gustbuster umbrellas? I'm wondering if those would get carried away.

Plus, I have been measuring my kids heights on that door since they were little with dates and names. I told dh when we move we are taking the door with us.
You could buy pieces of wood - 2 inches wide X 1/2 inch thick X 6 feet tall - and put each one beside the door and copy the heights from the door onto these pieces of wood. My siblings and I each had our own growth stick.

no. go away. :p
:laugh2:

Yes, you should really stick to your new rules. Otherwise, it takes the fun out of work (candlemaking).
And I want a pineapple bath bomb.

I don't color my candles, so I had no idea using a heat gun (hair dryer) on the tops would cause frosting. Sorry for giving wrong information:embarasse .
Stella is right -- you didn't give wrong information. I don't color my candles either so I always use my embossing gun to fix the tops.

Your labels look really, really nice. ("Perfectly" is misspelled though.)
-
I like the overall look of your site. I breezed through the other posts but it seems like no one mentioned that your "Southern Scents" logo on the top of the screen is a bit too small. I guess it's just me then.
-
Someone posted about those candles a while back but I can't find the thread.
-
I usually gently smooth the wax out wih my fingertips. I haven't had success with smoothing tops with my heat gun.
Why haven't you had success smoothing the tops with your heat gun?
-
If I had a problem with a candle, I would go straight to the one who made it, if the contact information is available (and you mentioned that yours is). I guess you could ask the salespersons to take down the names and numbers of those who are complaining so you can contact them.

Can't get into their site either but here's what I got from Google:

That turned out really nice!

so.... am I correct with my testing then' date=' 3inch tin, 3hour burn, leave for bout an hour to set up, another 3 hour burn, etc?[/quote']
It would be best to wait at least 2 hours between burns. You should also do a power burn at some point: 4-6 hours.
-
That's a really pretty mistake! You should name that technique.
-
And, save the $$ for the heat gun, you will love it. If it's a toss up between a heat gun and buying FOs that you "just have to try"--spend it on the heat gun. Good luck!
Yup, I agree. A hair dryer doesn't compare to a heat gun. You can also get an embossing gun at a craft store -- I got mine for $12 with the 40% off coupon.
-
It did, it did! That's pretty.

No suggestions for your logo yet, but with the rainbow type - I'd keep it very simple.
edited - new idea: maybe just a funky sixties flower instead of the apostraphe in 'Bert's'
I like Nancy's idea for the apostrophe.
