  1. I wasn't sure if I should start this thread for fear of not getting any replies. LOL. Has anyone done needle felting? I stumbled upon needle felted bears on etsy, did some research online and it seems like an interesting craft.

  2. I'm going to repeat what I have said here before, I think its when they trim the wick and don't take the wick "droppings" out of the melt pool. When the candle burns down low enough the wick trimmings catch back on fire and THATS what raises the temp of the wax high enough to catch the whole darn thing on fire. I don't think it has to do with wax type or fragrance oil as much as the wick.

    Bruce,

I guess it follows then that this can happen with glass as well? Although I know tins can get much hotter than glass.

  3. The soap that I feel is drying on the skin was made August 1st. The good batch was made two days later. I ran the recipe through soapcalc and MMS's lye calculator and lye amounts are ok.

Maryann, other than touching the soap to my tongue (can't do this :tongue2: ) and using pH strips, how else can I tell if it's lye heavy?

  4. Another thing I do is when I am trying out a something new with the people who already like my stuff is I make the 1.5 hex jar candles and include one in their order. They usually end up getting a full size of whatever it was I gave them as a free sample.

I agree -- you should include sample sizes to make them realize there are other interesting scents available.

  5. which FO was it? and which vendor?

(oh, and since there is no info on the SRB, please please post YOUR experience!

I won't say that some recipes/oils don't seem to eat FOs, but unless you see a pattern I'd expect it was the FO.

The FO is Creme Brulee from FOH. I will work on posting reviews on SRB. The Peanut Butter Brownie Pie and the Apple Cobbler Delight smell heavenly though (for those who like food scents in soap, that is :) ).

  6. If you just made the soap, hold on - sometimes the scent fades or changes and then comes back during the cure. Sometimes.

You can look at the Scent Review Board (http://scentreviewboard.obisoap.ca/ - you will have to register) to see how that particular FO has done for others.

    Thanks sudsnwicks and CB!

This soap has been curing for a month. I checked the Scent Review Board and there's no review for this FO. Oh well, it's still soap. :)

  7. I know that in candlemaking, more FO doesn't necessarily translate to stronger scent throw. I made a batch of soap using 0.7 oz FO/ lb of oils and it isn't smelly enough for me. How much higher can I go? The soap has cured for a month so I'm done waiting for the scent to be resurrected.

If this particular FO didn't smell as stong as I'd like with this recipe, is it safe to say it might do better with another recipe?
