  1. my DB and I were driving somewhere (probably to get something to eat) and happened to be listening to a country radio station... "What I Love About Sunday" came on... and he said "Sunday Soy". It encompassed everything...

Then I decided that I wanted to branch into B & B. He is also a HUGE music and movie fan (thousands and thousands of DVD's and CD's), and his job in the Army is Psychological Operations in the Broadcast Division... (Army lingo for a radio DJ who plays a lot of propaganda for the local natives). This makes his vast array of music quite eclectic. One of the groups he has introduced me to is "Me First and the Gimme Gimmes". "MeFirst" seemed to fit what I wanted to represent... take time, just once, and put yourself first... if only long enough to light a candle or indulge in a luxurious bath...

  2. Hey, Sparkette...

There are a lot of helpful people here, but you're going to have to learn how to do some research on your own. We've all been where you are now! Most people are more than willing to help, but you'll get much farther by showing initiative to research. Very few are comfortable with hand feeding someone. To top it off, you may use the exact same wax, FO, wick, etc. that I use. And for whatever reason, we'll get different results. The only way to determine what works for you is to test. Making a good candle takes time, money and determination. It's not nearly as easy as I thought it would be when I first started.

I think one of the biggest mistakes I made when I first started was to overwick. You want to have about 1" of melt pool for every hour of burn time.

I have tested and at one time thought I loved: RRD, LX, Performa, ECO and now CD's. I still like each of them for different reasons.

    Happy Testing!

  3. In your searches, you might want to find the threads about people's homes burning down. If you are just starting to make candles, you're going to get responses telling you to slow down. Making candles isn't as easy as some people think it is. I know... you think that you are different. I thought I was different too. I thought that I was good at anything I wanted to be good at. I thought it would be quick, easy money. Several years and several thousand dollars later, I'm still convinced that I can do it. Someday.

  4. What a lovely dissertation!

I suppose I could post my post-secondary education resume as well, but suffice to say it trumps yours.

My whole point is that I go to Ebay, when I go to Ebay, expecting or hoping for a bargain. I wouldn't market my candles as a bargain, were I to market them. Therefore, I would not even worry about other chandlers selling on Ebay. As I said, choose your market wisely.

I think that perhaps your financial situation is putting undue strain upon your candle business. This is just my opinion, but from all of your posts about your personal situation I gather that you are relying upon selling candles to make money. I understand that it's stressful to be under the gun, and frantic for sales. I just stand by my opinion that there are better answers to the problem than Ebay.

  5. I honestly don't understand the obsession with this person selling her tarts so cheaply. I mean, to the point of going and researching where and how much she gets of supplies? Sheesh... Perhaps it is just a hobby for her, and she just wants to make enough to buy another sample of FO. Perhaps it's none of our business what she does to make money. I know there are people around who don't look for the cheapest of everything. I am one of those people. Call me a snob, but I don't buy generic vegetables. I like Green Giant. I don't buy 100 tarts for a dollar because something tells me that I'd get what I paid for. All it takes is a bit of common sense to figure that out. Nothing is free. I suggest choosing your market wisely and not playing to a lessor quality competitor.

  7. Ok, I tried to hush... really I did...

I really, REALLY, can't believe how up in arms you are about this. Aren't you the one who was going and buying unscented laundry detergent... adding FO and reselling? You have proven yourself to be a liar, manipulator and shady character on this board so I'm sure it carries over to your products. You skirt the rules whenever possible! You sold someone else's candles when you first started and claimed them as your own! When you were busted you finally admitted that you were drop shipping them. You have absolutely no ground to stand on in this situation. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black! The gene pool needs some clorox!
