are we drinking bay rum or grandma's toddy? Have you tried the egg nog from FOH vs. keystone? What is your favorite pumpkin scent?
-
deep breath...
there is a search feature right there in the upper right hand corner. By simply typing in 'pumpkin' you will have a plethora of pages of threads regarding pumpkin pie, pumpkin spice, pumpkin fudge, pumpkin cheesecake, sweet pumpkin, not spicy pumpkin, pumpkin and apples, pumpkin coffee, pumpkin vanilla, frosted pumpkin, etc. etc.

Scarecrow (Hay or Country Bumpkin any others?) - Commando - bayousome
Tin Man (Tin Star that I saw somewhere) - bayrum
Lion (Tiger eyes was my thought, but probably not a good choice) - cowardly lion = pink sugar
Dorothy - Angel
Toto (thinking puppy's breath) - 'no more dog's ass' - smoke & odor eliminator
Rudolph (a fruity gingerbread mix maybe) - I got nothing
Santa - Bowl full of jelly - blackberry jam butter cookies
Graveyard - merlin's forest - flicker's
Trick or Treat - caramel apple
Goblins - 'boo' berry
Witchypoo (Witches Brew or ...) - mulled cider
Frosty the Snowman - Frosty's nose - carrot cake
Santa's Elves - green irish tweed
North Pole - swiss chalet - DS

I'm not Stella, but she's probably getting some sleep.
Soy wax is not the wax to tackle if you don't have a lot... and by a lot, I mean A LOT, of money to invest. I think that it's misleading to price soy wax a bit cheaper than paraffin wax... it sucks people in!! I'm teasing...
In my testing, I've found that zinc wicks just don't work in soy wax. They don't burn hot enough. Soy wax burns much cooler than paraffin, and it needs a hotter wick. Mind you, this will bring in a whole new set of problems, but one thing at a time. But, if the wick is too large, it just consumes your FO, and then you don't get a fragrant candle either. Confused yet? If you search through this vegetable section, you'll see countless threads about wicking and hot throw (the scent of the candle when burning).
FO... not all FO works in soy. Some that work for one person won't work for another. Peak has outstanding oils, but even they have some that won't work for me.
I understand that it's difficult to read through posts when you aren't sure what people are saying, but you'll make many, many cool points by doing some searching here. Every one of us was where you are now, and I think that most of the people who have stuck it out are the ones who show gumption to read and learn all they can. For example, if you search the vegetable wax section, use 'zinc' as your search word, you'll find pages of threads about zinc wicks. Not only that, but I've found that by doing things that way I get answers to questions I'd never have thought to ask.
There are so many important things that should be done... weigh everything, and weigh it accurately. Make sure the wax is at the right temperature, add the FO at the right temperature. Pour at the right temperature. Read the manufacturers guidelines for your wax. Come here and search for answers. Ask us specific questions. Get a second job to help finance your new addiction. The list is endless, as you can see...
Best of luck!

did anyone else rush to the classy's to see what she might be selling?? Shame on you for getting my hopes up like that! LOL...

I e-mailed her and called her pathetic (amongst other things). I love a good opportunity to be abrasive!

white chocolate karibou from FOH
Chocolate covered strawberry, also FOH

I have berry bundt cake from FOC on the way... heard great reviews of that one...
-
absolutely no fuel smell for me, there is just a hint of spice... enough to give it a kick. But, then again, I didn't get a burnt smell with the pumpkin souffle either... and some did.
I just got another order in from MC, I'm testing High Cotton, Seaside and Mulled Cider.
I could send you some sweet orange & chilli pepper if you'd like...
-
Wow... I tested Flicker's balsam & citrus last night and it was very strong for me.
I too have some problems with ICS' FO throwing, but maybe I'll give the sugared spruce a try.
ETA: still can't get enough of MC's sweet orange and chilli pepper. The cozy home is drool worthy. I have a friend who swears she can't live without eucalyptus mist. I'd give their Christmas eve a try, it's a bit different for a Christmas scent. All throw very well in 444 for me.

Hello, Celica...
sent you a PM!

I have a difficult time with some apple scents. MC has a caramel apple that throws pretty well, but I can't get a super strong throw with it either. Some have used ooey gooey caramel from candle cocoon mixed with ST's green or mac apple, but I haven't tried CC's FO to test this. If you jump over to the fragrance section, I think you'll find quite a bit about caramel apple. Karen Lynn was having a difficult time as well with this FO, I believe. Are your other FO's throwing well, both cold and hot?
-
what FO? Even if it's one from the sticky in this section that is supposed to work in soy doesn't mean that it will. Also, how long have you cured it? If you aren't getting a good cold throw, I don't think changing wick sizes is going to help greatly. Give us just a bit more info, and maybe we can help...

PA... I think you're my hero...

Rocky Road?

I've placed my order and not heard anything... just giving an update.

like Gdawg said, bigger isn't necessarily better. A bigger wick can burn up your FO without actually giving you any scent throw. Seems impossible, right? But, it's true. I believe in wicking down as much as possible. I don't care if there is a bit of wax left on the sides of the jar until the last burn. Finding the right wax/wick/FO combination can be very, very difficult. Just when you think you have your formula cemented, you'll run into a FO that defies logic. I used to fight such FO's, but have since learned it's a lot less of a headache to give up quickly on a difficult FO and search for another.
Anyway, that's why I was a bit vague in my first answer to your question. For example, another CT'er and I are testing a blend. I think she's having to use a size bigger wick than I am, and there really isn't any logical explanation for it. People can suggest starting points, but always remember that just because something works for one person doesn't guarantee that it will work for everyone. There is too much fluctuation in natural waxes and too many candle gremlins out there wreaking havoc.
Just my two cents...

using 'eco' and 'jj' as my search words I found these links:
http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58581&highlight=eco+jj
http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58520&highlight=eco+jj
http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53103&highlight=eco+jj
there were actually two pages of responses, and that is just a few relevant links.
Seems the consensus is between an ECO 8 and an ECO 10
eta: wicking up is generally on heavier FO, like vanilla, spice, etc
-
there may not be a list, but there is the search feature. A plethora of information is at your fingertips....
And, an ECO 8 might work. Hard to tell because what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another...
-
ok, good to know
-
I completely understand Top's methodology... but, as some of you may know, I have argumentative tendencies.
If a wax has a range of 6-10% FO load, that means that it's 6-10% of the wax, correct? So, that would be, for example, 6% of the wax... not 6% of the total weight. Am I making myself understood correctly?
-
Really? I was getting a list together to order from them as I've never tried their oils. Thanks for the heads up!
-
you shouldn't take it personally... I am abrasive to just as many people as I'm nice too. All things in life balance. I know my limitations and therefore never aspire to be the pillar of any community. Too many obligations and various other menial things to uphold, for me at least, when living beyond reproach.
-
wow... this must be a really difficult decision for you, as this is your fourth post on it.
The EZ wick setter is to center your wick in the jar. The bowtie centers it AFTER your wax is poured. Therefore, BOTH are necessary IMHO.
Pretty Sure I Got A Phony Website Order..
