  1. Hi- I wanted to chime in about suppliers in upstate NY-I called Jason a couple of weeks back- to ask the same question-I'm near Buffalo. He recommended candlesandsupples.com they are the closest in Pennsylvania-unfortunatly there is no one in NY. After I placed my order and paid for it I checked Bitter Creek North, in Wisconsin, their shipping was actually less money. Just my opinion but I like BCN much better anyways I was just trying to save on shipping, guess that didnt work...LOL
  2. Good luck!!! I'm still struggling with my containers...youre very adventurous for a newbie. As far as the double boiler you want to use a pot with water in it place a metal cookie cutter or something like that on the bottom to keep your pouring pot up away from the main heat. And, again, good luck!!!
  3. Hi juggy, I dont have an answer for you but Ive been thinking of doing the same thing. Hopefully some one will know.
  4. Im very new to this but I could not get any throw, hot or cold from c3, no matter what I did. I even had on that had been sitting on a shelf curing since November, and nothing. I changed fo's, curing time, pouring temp, wicks etc. I finally gave up. Now I'm testing ez soy or gb415, they are comprable waxes, and I am having much better results. Took some figuring and a lot of questions but I think I finally got it. Good luck, dont give up.
  5. Hi tashak, this is an awesome board, I love it here. I find myself checking this board a bunch of times through out the day. This is just my but when I tried a supplier in Pennsylvania, which is closer to me in NY, their shipping was actually more expensive than Bitter Creek in Wisconsin. I love working with BCN, and Doneen is wonderful. Their pure soy is GB415. And they have an awesome sellection of FO's. Good luck.
  6. I try my hardest to not do any math, lol, it hurts my head too. Try this link... http://www.candlesupply.com/converter.html
  7. Ok so now I have a question. Are Cello bags the same as poly pro? I read that someplace here I think. If thats the case the cute Cello gift bags at the dollar store are ok, right? Thanks.
  8. Hi Ramaroa~ Welcome, this is a great place to learn, I'm a newbie too. I check this board a few times during the day, everyone is so nice and very helpful. You will like it here. Dixie cups are the ssmall paper cups, about 2 - 3oz, alot of people use them in a dispenser in their bathrooms. If you're just starting out I would go with the Presto pot and not the turkey fryer, the turkey fryer is big, the presto can sit right on the counter, and you can leave melted wax in it and put it away till you need it again. A presto pot is a smaller deepfryer slash slow cooker, it has a temperature control on it and it heats up the wax very quickly. A regular slowcooker will take hours to melt wax. I found mine at Walmart for $21.00 in the same isle as the slowcookers. Ypu can find a picture of it in the general information tab on the left side of candle techs home page. Good luck and feel free to ask any questions you might have, some one has probably gone thru it before you, and some one will after you.
  9. Hi all~ Where are these jars (or any jars) located in the store? I need to run their this afternoon to pick up something else and I dont have time to browse, I have a yucky bridal shower to go to, UGH. I'd rather be pouring, in fact I would rather cut off my foot than go to this shower (LOVE the groom, HHHHAAAATTTEEE the bride)
  10. Thank you both for all of your help. I think the 4oz jj's are too short, their only half the size of the 8oz'rs. I still can't get the wick size right no matter what size I use either. I get quite a bit of hang up on the edge. And, yes, I've also found that there's a lot of duds out their, but I am LOVING Red clover and Pink Sugar from Flickers. Did not have a great trow with Olive Blossom like others have. Again thanks for the info.
  11. I am using ez soy and switching between htp105, 126, cd 12,14,and 16.
  12. Hi everyone~ Thank you all so much for your help so far, this is a great place to learn!!! I am planning on using 8 oz jj's, mason jars, etc. for my candles. Right now, I'm still in the FO testing faze, boy, it takes so long. Because I plan on using the jj's (to start with, and move up from there) I figured it would be no big deal to test the FOs in the 4 oz jj's (I've poured about 30 different FOs like this), seeing as tho they are the same width as the 8oz. Mainly because I didnt want to waste supplies. It's not going so well... The candle burns about half way and then goes out, because the wick tips over. The wicks aren't secured because I've pulled them out to change to a different size. What can I do, if anything, about this? Turns out I'm wasting supplies anyways doing it this way. Thanks so much.
  13. Never mind posting, I'll give you a call!!
  14. Can you please tell me some of your distributors in the New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio area? I'm trying to save on shipping. I'm in upstate NY. Thanks soooo much!
  15. Thanks for the info Susan, Im going to have to try this combo. No matter what, I do I can't get a great, or even good HT. (right now HT's my main concern) I've cured, Ive changed temps, just about everything and nothings worked. I'm getting very discouraged. I'll give this a try. Thanks again.
  16. I bumped it down to 3% (.5oz pp) we'll see how that goes. Thanks for your help Vicky!!!
  17. I just checked on a bunch that I made yesterday with 1oz bw pp and they all cracked badly, not to mention that no matter how hard I pull, I cant get the wick out, UGH!!! Guess I'll have to melt them down.:lipsrseal
  18. Can some one tell me, what the purpose is of adding bw? Does it help with ht or just make them look better. I use ez soy for containers only. Thanks.
  19. Hi all !!! I bought my presto pot at Walmart for $22.00, best purchase I've ever made:yay:
  20. here's what I do~sorry I know UK measurments are different. 1 oz of fo to 1lb of wax gives you 17oz total weight divide 1 into 17 to get .0588 or 5.88% subtract 5.88 from 100 (17 is 100% of what you want) you get 94.12 example: so if you only need 11 oz of wax you need to figure how much FO you need. 1 +16=17 (100%) 1/17=.0588 or 5.88% 100-5.88=94.12 then you figure in the exact amount of wax 11/.9412=11.68 11.68 total weight -11oz( original wax amnt) = .68 oz of FO make sense? hope this helps, I needed to have someone explain it to me too.
  21. some FO's are good for both, but check with the supplier you got the FO's from, it should tell you on the scent description page(usually). Good Luck!!
  22. Its a gap in the fluid, its been there since I got it. The fluid is blue. I didnt think they used mercury anymore.
  23. Hi all~I'm new here, been reading for a few days now~what a great board!!! Very helpful!!! I have a question about my thermometer. It looks to me like there is a bubble in the mercury (if this is what candy thermometers use) and I'm wondering if it is supposed to be there? If it is, what line do I use to get the correct temp? Its close to the top of the mercury but its a very even opening, I hope I'm making sense. Any thoughts? Thanx!!! Jen
