  1. Forgive me, but SW? I know ICS, but what is SW? Thanks I remember that some place on this site is a cheat sheet for suppliers any 1 know where to find it?
  2. Julie, Thanks so much for responding, I'm very excited and can't wait to get started. The whip should be here tomorrow. I am very lucky, I have a container supply house, right around the corner from me, so I will save a ton on shipping!!! Literally, a 30 second drive, lol. My jars will be available this afternoon. I ordered 2 and 4 oz to start, and I think they are poly-styrete(maybe? not sure about the spelling) and they are wide mouth. Thanks again, and I would still love to hear what others have to say. Jen
  3. Hi everyone, I am totally brand new to B&B. I tried the soy candle thing for a while, but I think I've given up on that, I didn't have very good luck.:embarasse I figured I'd better do something with all the stuff I have in the basement before the DH actually kills me for wasting $$$$...lol. Anyways, I ordered KY's soy whip, because I've heard good reviews, and I have tons of body safe FO's (because of the candle thing). But my question is, when looking for containers, is there anything I should know? Should I look for a specific type of plastic? I know with candles, some plastics eat up the scent. Also, how thick is this stuff?(its not here yet) Can I put it in lotion bottles or should I go with the little tubs/wide mouth jars? And 1 more thing, I have a ton of shea butter, could I add it to this? How would I go about doing that? Thanks so much in advance, Jen
  4. Thanks Candlebuddy! I'll order a sample. I have about 45lbs left of the 415, that I really don't want to waste. Anyone have any ideas on a parrafin that I could add to that? I just don't know where to start, I know very little about soy and even less about parrafin. TIA, Jen
  5. I am banging my head against the wall with the 415...no matter what I do to it I just cannot get good HT. I've changed temps, wicks, FO's, added and removed different additives. I've been testing this stuff for a few months and I'm getting nothing good in return. I give up on it. UGH!!! So for my next quest, I would like to try a 50/50. Or something to get any HT at all!!! Should I buy a parrafin and add it to the 415 (could it be a bad batch?) or should I start with something already mixed? Which brand seems to be easiest in your opinions? Where would be a good place to start? I already have LX, CD and some HTP wicks (sample packs so sizes are limited) Should I wick up or down to start with? I would be starting fresh with no clue where to begin:p ANY, ANY, ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated. TIA, Jen
  6. small world...I'm in East Rochester, which is right next door to Fairport.
  7. http://www.drewcandle.com/osCommerce/index.htm this is Drew's website, the soy is under enchanted lights products. Jane where are you in Roch-chacha?
  8. Hey where was everyone when I was looking for this information a few months back? I didn't realize that I could buy wax from Drew, thats awesome I'll have to give them a call, I haven't tried Enchanted lights yet, I'll have to search for some info on them. Thanks for all the good info in this link, I live in Rochester and I've been ordering most everything from Bitter Creek North, which I LOVE by the way, but it would be nice to save on shipping for some stuff. As far as suppilers in PA, I found that my shipping was actually less expensive from BCN in Wisonsin than from a place in PA. I suggest getting some more info on shipping before placing an order just because of location, jmo. Good luck!
  9. sounds like you need a UVA stabilizer, BCN has a good one. I not positive tho, maybe someone else can help out more. Good luck.
  10. I ordered some samples from ICS, one being baby hugs. It's poured and waiting to burn, can't wait now, smelled great when mixing. Any way my point for posting was that I ordered from them and had my oils in less than a week, super fast!!! They are one of the few that ship USPS.
  11. WD 40 works awesome. PS it also removes CRAYON from painted living room walls:yay:
  12. What's really funny is that my DH and I were arguing over which 1 I could have, I bought the presto at Walmart and he bought the Dazey at BJ's I wanted the Presto initially cuz I never heard anyone mention the Dazey, didnt know if it would work right...lol. Well I lost the battle and he got his darling Presto and I thought "this probably wont be right" Well, haha to him cuz his cord keeps falling out and mine is PERFECT. neener, neener, neener:p I know I'm real mature...lol Jen
  13. Not too horribly long ago, around Christmas. You could call to see if they have them anymore, and not waste a trip. I never saw them on their web site.
  14. I have a Dazey, whish is awesome by the way. I got it at BJ's wholesale club, the only place I've ever seen them. Best thing I've ever bought. And if you set it at a smidge below the "simmer" setting it holds a constant 170*
  15. WOW!!! you are sooo patient. The minute my wax arrived I had to play, I couldnt wait and made a total mess of my kitchen, from which I have been banned...lol. I started playing with my DH's good pots, a good pyrex cup, and good spoons, boy did I get in trouble. I jumped before I learned that you should have seperate stuff for your candles. Didn't even think that the FO would make the food taste like perfume:D DUH!!! Now I have a little workspace in the basement away from HIS KITCHEN Best of luck to you.
  16. So THAT'Swhat their supposed to look like. Thanks for posting:highfive: Very pretty too!!
  17. I would like to see one also, I'm used to crappy pillars too:undecided I've seen all of the beautifuly made pre lit ones on here but what should they look like post burn? Thanks
  18. what's a good way to make sure my scale is weighing correctly?
  19. My first candle that had great scent throw was Red Clover from flickers frag. it smelled awesome all the way down to the bottom. The 2nd was black rasp. vanilla from MC, it was so strong that we had to open the door to be able to breathe, then on the 2nd and 3rd burn it was much weaker, but still smelled nice. Why would it do that? I could see if it got stronger down towards the bottom, if the fo settled but not the other way around. Last night I took a vineyard (MC) to my friends house and she burned it for about an hour, it smelled great in her small front room. She put it out after an hour cuz she was going to bed, but she'll burn it longer today. I did end up taking out the BW and poured a couple that I'm waiting on. And I bumped up the fo to 1.5oz pp. Keeping my fingers crossed... Thanks so much for your help. Jen
  20. CONGRATS!!! Good for you:highfive: I live in the Lilac City, Rochester, NY we have a huge festival next month. It's in a huge park and this place smells amazing, there are thousands of lilac bushes. It's really beautiful. I would love to find a true lilac, which FO did you use? Again, congratulations, it is exciting when you get it to work, lol.
  21. Thank you all so much for your suggestions, I'm going to give them a try. Well, now I have 2, I burned a black raspberry vanilla last night and it was way way way strong, YIPPPEEEE!!! I knew I wouldn't make money right away but I thought I would at least have a couple more candles to improve on by now. Like a couple of you said I hoped I could at least feed my addiction:D I do weigh my fo, I bought a scale a couple of months ago. My melt pool seems to be great, all the way across, 1/4 inch deep, cleans the sides, not too big of a flame and not alot of flickering. I'll try bumping up my FO and taking out the BW, and see what happens. One more ? could I heat the fo before adding it, maybe that will help? I work in a pretty cold basement, can the fo's get too cold and not work right? Thanks again, this is a wonderful place and I am soooooo glad I found it!
  22. Hi, me again, ya know the PITA!!! I have tried so many different combos and I still cannot get ANY hot throw. They all have great cold throw, but literally NO ht, not even when I stand over them and burn my nose hairs. I'm using 415 with 1 oz fo pp in 8 oz jjs. I've tried many different wicks CD12, 14, 16 & HTP 105. FO's from peaks, Flickers, Bittercreek North and Millcreek. I add 1/4 oz BW pp. I had one candle that turned out awesome, and that was red clover from flickers. I kept exact notes and followed them to a T with other scents. I have probably 30 different testers poured, all cured for 1 week some 2-3 weeks. I thought maybe at first it was my jars, I was testing in 4 oz jj's so I switched to the 8 oz. Then I thought I was adding FO at too hot of a temp (around 200 degrees, I didnt have a good thermometer) dropped it to 175, when I got my digital. I just cant figure out what Im doing wrong. All of these scents smell great when I melt them down on my candle warmer, but NOTHING while burning. I stir for at least 2 minutes and then again before I pour about 100-110. I know its not candle nose because my tester people cant even smell them. Please help me figure this out, I'm about ready to give up!!! I really don't want to do this but my DH will kill me if I waste any more $$$$! He's disabled and were on a very fixed income. Silly me I thought I could do this and make a couple of extra bucks. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much. Jen
