  1. Where can you get amber glass bottles? Thanks again, Shine
  2. Thanks. After everyone's input I just moved all my FO's to basement storage. It's always about 10 degrees cooler down there. I didn't realize how many FO's I had aquired in less than a year :rolleyes2 . It's time for invatory but I just don't have time now. Thanks again, Shine
  3. Yummy. I just poured candied apple pomander. It smells soooo good. I'm out of jars now. I'm hoping UPS shows up soon today. I have my first show in two weeks . Shine
  4. Do FO's go bad or lose their potency over time? How long do you keep your FO's before you dispose of them? Thanks for your input, Shine
  5. I really like the pumpkin pie spice. It throws great in GB444. Shine
  6. Yes, you need to add UV inhibitor to all your candles even candles without dye. UV light can yellow undyed candles too. Shine
  7. I use GW444 in an 8oz Metro Jar with a 2 1/2 inch diam., straight edges, 9% FO and no dye and it takes a RRD40 or RRD47. You may have to try a 50 or 55. HTH. Shine
  8. I do not charge my testers. I have 3 people who test for me. I test all my candles first then I have my testers test. I have taught them how to burn and test and they also have instruction sheets and extensive evals to fill out. Two of my three testers are very good. One of my testers is awesome! She writes very descriptively and has a great nose for picking out top, middle and base notes in FO's. There's no substitute for testing first yourself but secondary testers give additional input that helps in making a quality product. Shine
  9. Cindy, Can't wait to hear how your first candles turn out. One of the first scents I tried was vanilla. I was so disappointed. It had very little cold or hot throw. Later I found out that vanillas can be tricky (I use soy). Since then I've had some awesome and not so awesome candles. I think that's what feeds my addiction, trying to get the perfect candle. Candle making can be very rewarding. Enjoy the adventure :highfive: . Shine
  10. I wasn't using dye in my candles so I didn't think I needed UV inhibitor. Then some of my candles started turning a bright yellow. I now know even candles without dye need UV inhibitor. HTH, Shine
  11. Sorry I can't help with your wax. I use GW444. But I can empathize with you . When I first started testing I had beautiful smooth tops. I thought I was in the clear. I had melt and pour temps all figured out. Then one day several months later after following the same formula the tops on my candles were coming out awful. I'm back to ground zero and learning how to master the heat gun. I feel for you. Soy can be so unpredictable. Shine
  12. Jeana, Yes, the heat has affected my test burns. I was testing 3 different wick sizes in 6 different FO's. The first 2 days of testing with all three wick sizes I had no or very little wax hang up with all 3 wick sizes. This never happens. Then the weather turned cold again and after burning 1/2 way down the candles and having no hang up I now have wax building up on the edges of the candles. Usually the opposite happens. Now I don't know what size wick to use in these candles. I'm so confused and frustrated . Shine
  13. I just ordered from ICS (pink sugar, cinnamon buns, candied apple pomander, spiced cranberry, carmel latte, all hallow's eve and ST's baby hugs). I also ordered from AH, BCN and MC. My DH is gonna kill me when the credit card bill comes in :embarasse . Thanks for all the suggestions, Shine
  14. How have you found that heat and humidity affects the set up of your candles? I thought with warmer temps my candles would set up nicer but... two days ago I poured a bunch of tester candles and the tops of the candles looked worse than crators on the moon . It was extremely humid and about 85F outside. The candles I poured later in the day when it was cooler had smoother tops. Also, the first candles I poured took forever to set up. Can a candle cool too slow ? Thanks for your input, Shine
  15. BCN is great. My current favorite from there is vanilla grapefruit. I also have 3 different people who test my candles and they all think vanilla grapefruit is great. HTH. Shine
  16. I went there too and it seemed very confusing. Any tips??? I also read some other threads on this too and I'm still confused :embarasse . Should I just save my pennies and hire a lawyer to search all my candle names? I'm sooo frustrated. Thanks for any tips, Shine
  17. How do you find out if a candle fragrance name has been trademarked? Thanks, Shine
  18. Thanks Meridith, I'll give ICS a try:) . Shine
  19. Thanks for your replies. I'll think I'll order 1 from each company. I need to order more FO's and I've been happy with all the company's mentioned. I've ordered from Snow Top before but not since ICS bought them. Any problem getting Snow Tops FO's from ICS? Thanks again, Shine
  20. Help, I gave a baby powder scented candle to my son's teacher for Christmas since she was pregnant and now she wants to order some more baby powder candles for a baby shower she is giving. My problem is I used Pourette's baby powder FO which I absoutely loved and now I can't get it from them:mad:. What baby powder FO do you love that throw's great in soy? Your opinions are greatly appreciated! Thanks, Shine:)
  21. I've been using 9% and been having an awesome hot throw and cold throw but I have large schrooms (I'm using RRD 40's and 47's with a 2inch diam. metro jar). I just cut back to 6% to see if I can get rid of those nasty schrooms. I'm still curing. I just hope I don't loose the fragrance throw. The cold throw does seem a little less at 6%. I'll update at the end of the week with my results. Shine
  22. I am also thinking about going. I just make soy container candles. It seems like they have more stuff for soap. Would it be woth it for someone who purely makes candles to go? Shine
  23. I placed an order on March 23 and received a confrimation number. I have not gotten my order yet. I called yesturday. Both phone numbers are disconnected. E-mailed them. No response yet . Shine
  24. I really like... -Lavender, Apples & Oak -Hot Apple Pie (a strong scent, smells more like apple cider) -Granny's green apple (Smells like sour apple candy) -Lemon Verbena (haven't burnned this one yet but it has a great cold throw) -Mandarin Twist (Did not like OOB and I don't really smell mandarin but it is a nice clean, relaxing unisex scent. This scent once in wax pleasantly surprised me.) -Pumpkin Pie Spice So far AH/RE FO's are working the best in my soy wax, GW444. HTH. Shine
  25. Does anyone use uv inhibitor from rustic escentuals/aroma haven? If so, how do you like it? I buy quite a few FO's from them and would like to be able to purchase my uv inhibitor in the same shipment. Thanks, Shine
