  1. Thanks for all your replies. I will definitely be trying them. I learn something new every time I visit candletech. You guys are awesome:yay:
  2. Happy New Year everyone! I was wondering if anyone has any neat tricks or tips for filling their container candles. I'm using metro jars. Sometimes I fill them too much and then the lid doesn't fit on it. Other times I don't fill them enough. I'm not selling yet but when I'm ready, I'd like to have all my candles filled evenly. Any help will be greatly appreciated:grin2:
  3. Hi Sandy, I should have read more posts first. I'm still using my TF for the first time. I'm pouring candles now. Yes, first melt 8 pounds of wax in your presto then pour the melted wax in your TF to cover the heating element. Since I messed up the first time I'm not sure if you should preheat the TF first or not. After the small fire I let the TF cool down, added the melted wax then turned it on. I haven't shut it down yet but when I do use it again I will definitely poke relief holes in the wax and keep the lid on it. Hope you like yours as much as I like mine:)
  4. My hubby came through---I got my turkey fryer:grin2: Tried it for the first time today. I thought I'd keep the basket in to protect the heating element OOPS! I had my first and hopefully last wax fire (very small). The wax did not melt covering the heating element fast enough. The fryer turned itself off. When I lifted the basket out of the fryer there was smoke, then a small amount of wax ignighted, but quickly extinguished itself. Since my first experience I've added the wax directly into the pot without the basket. No problems. I love it! Hopefully no one else will make the same mistake as me.
  5. hi, I'm realativly new myself---have been pouring candles since Sept. I use Golden Brand 444. Almost went crazy trying to get a complete melt pool. After trying several different wicks and sizes I finally got a cmp using a RRD-40. I'm still testing several FO's and occationally I wick up to a RRD-47. I'm using an 8 ounce 2 1/2 inch diameter metro jar. I found pouring slushy at lower temps 110-120 gives me smooth tops and less wet spots. Hope this helps, Kathy
  6. Thanks for the info. I just dropped off some tester candles to a friend that works at an insurance company. They are actually going to test them in their office. They said they have insured people who sell Gold Canyon candles but not someone who makes their own candles. He said he'd look into it but thought I probably would need product liability. Any ideas?
  7. Thanks for the tip. I'll print the cupon and put in in my hubby's wallet. Who can resist a deal? I really hope I get it:yay:
  8. i'll be giving the subtle hint that bed, bath and beyond would be a great place to Christmas shop. Thanks for the tip!
  9. Expired credit cards work great for me too.
  10. Thanks for the replies. I'll be asking my hubby for a fryer. Hope I get it:D
  11. thanks for your reply. I'll do the search:)
  12. Hi, everyone's input has been very helpful in helping me get started making candles. My next step is to find out what I need to do to sell them. My mother-n-law informed me that to sell your own candles in Illinois you must first have insurance. Is this right or is insurance just a good idea? If you do need insurance, what type? Thanks for all your help:cheesy2:
  13. Can anyone tell me if it's me or the FO? I used 1.5oz of Grandma's Kitchen from Bitter Creek in 16 oz GB 444 and now when I burn it, it kind of smells like fuel. The cold throw smelled great. Did I put too much FO in? Thanks for your replies!
  14. I've been using a presto pot with good results but I thought I might like a turkey fryer for Christmas (I have big dreams). My question is how do you measure the wax? I weigh my wax before I put it in the Presto and add my FO after I put it in the pour pot. If you use the fryer, do you just make large batches of one FO? Or can you pour into serveral different pour pots? If you do this, how do you weigh the melted wax? I'm using soy wax. Does anyone understand my Question?
