  1. This is the first candle from the new workshop...I wanted to make sure everything was actually functional before I posted pics
  2. Wow...those are amazing! Palm wax has been trying enough with single color pillars...I wouldn't even want to attempt beauties such as yours!
  3. Early American Candle and Supply(Allison Park, PA) will do free 2lb samples if you pay shipping...they are completely free if you show up at the warehouse.
  4. Thanks all for the comments....DH loved it...it was finished at 11:34 pm on 12-23-05....then the bishops head I snapped off while polishing the pieces was finished the next afternoon!!
  5. closer up of just the reds pieces...was trying to get a good close up, but the camera battery died.
  6. Did not want post this until it was completely done...unmolding the pieces wasn't such a PITA, but hand painting the board took FOREVER!!
  7. Both sets are very beautiful...the 14 yr. old standing over my shoulder even agrees;) (you got a finicky teen-agers approval..they must be nice!).
  8. Thanks all...it is scented Peaks cinnamon
  9. My doctor ordered a candle for Christmas and said "suprise me", so I gave her a green whipped one similar to this one...she was thrilled with it then asked if I could make one in red, so here it is.
  10. also have to gripe about the way people request these types of candles...the first was "something with carolers and a tree", and the second was "something with a holiday scene". If you google picture search these things, you get quite a variety of choices.
  11. I have been busy lately with mostly "people" hurricanes for special orders, but someone ordered these, so I have something interesting to post.
  12. Love making water candles, but they are hard to sell just b/c they are so delicate and near impossible to get out to the customers without breaking. Picture hurricanes are probably 95% of my business, but they are soooo boring anymore...I really enjoy making octagon hurricanes with object embeds...they keep me challenged as to what I can embed in wax to make an amazing candle!
  13. Very realistic looking(and beautiful)! I am amazed by the people that make the food looking candles...just not a part of candle making I have a knack for.
  14. I use ceramic tiles in the bottom of my 'canes to keep the tealight from melting thru the bottom...as far as usefulness...the are great decorative pieces, and depending on the pic inside, they are wonderful keepsakes for special occasions and make unique gifts.
  15. Best way I have found to get these darn things out...DH to drive and I hold the candle(DON"T trust anyone else to actually toouch the candle...they WILL break it)!! Sorry I can't be of more useful help.
  16. beautiful hurricane shells and GREAT idea! I worked with those stupid square inserts in a restuarant for years....never thought they could be useful for something other than storing food.
  17. Honestly have to say...I haven't been so impressed by a candle since Manolis(not even my own)..amazing work!
  18. First thing I thought when I saw them was PITA, but the desire to make something so customized for my DH that includes both our passions makes me feel it will be worth it(already checked out supplies for a custom board too!).
  19. I just found this set of latex molds of chess pieces http://www.onestopcandle.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=OSC&Product_Code=LMS002&Category_Code=CLMCH a wax chess set would make an amazing gift for DH, but I have never worked with latex molds before and would not know what type of wax to use...any suggestions? The directions they provide are rather generic, so I don't know what to use...wicking won't be an issue though...I know these would be a set of candles that would never be burned.
  20. Wonderful for a first...I think you are on the path to even greater hurricanes!
  21. Wow...great mottle and perfect color to scent match! What wax did you use/how big is the candle?
