  1. I finally broke down and bought a color laser printer. I am getting a black smear or dots on the page if I use anything but the laser 24# paper. I need to use 110# card stock and laser labels. The card stock messes up big time, I don't want to waste any labels since this is happening. I bought a HP 1600. I started to get the 2600 that was recommended but I was told this one was the same without the network card. I read on a forum like this one for printer that someone had issues with the 2600 doing the same thing. I am very unfamiliar with color laser printers and would like to know if this happens at first. I did do a clean page as recommended on the printer help section. HELP:embarasse
  2. I think I read that inside the LX wick is a flat braid wicking, if this true, how do I find out which one would have a 27 or 30 ply in them?? thanks
  3. try their hansel and gretel, cranberry marmalade, apple jack and peel, they are all winners.
  4. anyone using EL 100% soy with their FO's??? I was told a big portion of their customers use this wax with their FO's and I want a good throw, I have tried Clean Cotton, Lovespell, and Cappachino. Looking for good ones with this wax
  5. I have tested 10 of their scents with 100% soy ( not the blend they have) and can't get a good throw. anyone have some they know throw? what about carolina candle supply??? the pumpkin butter crunch?? any great ones from them. I have tried and like clean cotton and lovespell. thanks
  6. Pourette has the diamond dust and it is much finer that the Michaels one. I leave the wicks long and hold the candle by the wick and spray with adhesive, wait a minute and then roll in the "glitter". I stopped applying it to the top of the candles and just did the sides when I found it can change the way the candle burns. It is actually a crushed glass product and at shows people just had to touch them even if I had a sign that said do not touch!!! my fear was that is could get into someone's eyes or if they had it in the kitchen, food, or a small child getting a hold of it, so I quit doing them to sell, just for myself for the holidays.
  7. I need some packing suggestions/help. I am shipping 12 ounce tureens, they come packed 12 in a box but I don't think I can just ship that boxed with the jars filled, what is the most economical way to get shipping boxes and material? I had that thought about finding a box that those boxes would fit in. This of course will all add to my cost. wholesale people, please give me some advise. also, is it cheaper to take boxes to a UPS store than to have them picked up at a residence? they told me at the ups store that shipping to a residence adds about $3 to the fee so I am assuming picking up from one would be the same. thanks so much
  8. I know a candle maker that was approached by QVC at the Chicago market and she was told $35,000 for a spot, I don't know if this was for one hour because I don't watch so don't know how the times are broken down. they told her the sales she would generate then and afterwards would more than pay for the spot. she didn't do it.
  9. by chance did the bottom of the candle touch the bottom of your pot? this happens to me after I have made a lot of them and the wax is getting lower, I have even had the balloon be stuck in the wax and visible from the bottom, I had one bust this way, that was a nice mess and a waste of wax, so I try to be careful and have extra wax ready to re-add to the pot. You really need to have deep wax because as it hardens the wax really goes down, I am surprised of how much (my pot leaves rings of hard wax of where I started, thats how I tell) hope this helps.
  10. I dropped my insurance a couple of years ago (stupid thing) and now have a rep wanting to sell my candles and I can't find insurance who will rep me since I will be wholesale, they said if I was just doing retail he could find me something. He also said with my previous policy he was sure I wasn't covered to wholesale ( and I did). I did a search for this and saw some of you said you had a policy that would do this and some didn't. He also said because I was the manufacturer that was also a problem. what the heck???? I am in SC, anyone that wholesales and make their candles, can you please tell me who you have insurance with???? thanks
  11. I use Microsoft Works, most people have it on their computer and don't use it. I use Publisher, but it takes a lot of time to get it set up. What I like about Works is that I can chose to print just one label on the sheet ( I have 12 and 20 up round labels) I don't have problems with it moving like you are talking about. Is the horizontal spacing off??
  12. I am using the same balloons I used for all the other ones, and if anything the wax was too hot, maybe 190, and the first few I did at the beginning I poured at 180 because I couldn't find my notes, and then realized it was suppose to be 160, so I figured it wouldn't matter, just take longer for the shell to form. Donita, I hated to bother you, you have helped me so much. I was hoping, but I guess not really, that this had happened to someone else. I don't wish this on anyone, pretty frustrating to watch those holes form.
  13. I have been using aluminum foil ever since I started making them a year ago. I put the cutters on top, spray with pam, fill them and place in the oven. I bring them out of the oven and cover with a towel until they cool, and they pop right off.
  14. I have made lots of balloon candles, haven't made one in probably a month, and when its sitting in the wax I see these bubbles attaching to the wax and then it leaves a hole, looks like swiss cheese, so I'm thinking I must have gotten water in the wax when I recycle the bad ones so I use all that wax to make hurricanes, which turned out perfect, clean the pot and start with new wax, same thing happens. I also thought it could be from the balloon not being totally dry, so I was careful on that too. The weird thing is the hurricanes turn our great. I am wondering if because my studio is only cooled when I work in it, the wax has sweat. I keep 500#s of slab in there of my pillar wax all the time and don't ever have issues with them, but since this is such a different method of candle making, that's why I seeing it in this application. Anyone had this happen???
  15. I love those colors, beautiful work:cool2:
  16. I don't see that FO listed, are you talking about Candle Cocoon?
  17. Has anyone tried either of her Chocolate FO's? one is a mint. I bought Candlescience's chocolate mint last Christmas from their sale area is was so awesome, I hate I didn't buy more. thanks, K
  18. when I saw the post in the candlemaking section about sand candles, I couldn't think of what the "rock" was called that I saw in one once, and its the agate in your pillar. I have a friend that bought one from a store in Tx, when burning.. the agate was lit up, it was a sand candle, about 5 inches tall and wide. she paid $35 for it. you could put a tea light in it once the wax was gone. anyone know what I'm talking about? I also tried to do it and made a mess. k
  19. very pretty. how does it burn? I got some of this to play with and the look it great, just can't get it to burn like I want. I was surprised how it mottled without any sweating. k
  20. beautiful, I love the crackle candles:yay:
  21. I have a 100# water jacket melter, leave it on 24/7 for the past 6 years. I paid $1200.00 for it. I wrapped it with water heater insulation and keep a towel in the spout you pour water in, and I only have to add water every couple of months. The temp says at a steady 150. I love it. I can't imagine having to wait on wax. I can put 5 slaps in at once, come back in the morning and its ready.
  22. I have one stuck too, usually I stick them in the frig and I can work it out, but this one is really stuck, I think the mold must not have been clean. I cracked it trying to pull it out, so now I am going to use is as a practice one for dipping!!
  23. I have, but it's hard to hold the stick up against the paper, smooth with the other and then start the icing. It seemed as soon as I put the cube on white starts appearing and I know its setting up and I panic, thinking its not completly stuck against the side. I experimented with mulberry paper last night instead of the copy paper and I really like the results but didn't get a perfectly clear image all the way down. I pm'd Donita to get her thoughts on using this paper, as far as longivity. I am wondering if the paper would fall apart over time.
  24. I love that crackle, great photography.
