Havent tried making tarts yet and just wondered if you have to do anything different to them that u would normally do for embeds going into pillars. I use straight parrafin and stearin. Would i do the same blend as normal and just add as much FO as you can or am i on the wrong track here??

At the moment i make pillars and although i said i never would id like to try making some candles in jars somthink like the apothecary jar maybe. Ive searched but cant find anything do any of you know of any good links that i keep missing coz i feel so blind at the mo! Doh I have loads of questions and sure you guys must have talked about it before but just incase you dont maybe you could help me answer these questions?? Can i use parrafin wax in these jars or do i have to change wax? Where can i get these jars in england? Do you test the wicks ect the same way you test pillar candles? Is there a certain way of telling that a jar will stand up to the heat? Any other advise would be great!! Thanks guys for any help!!

All of a sudden ive been approached by shop owners who are interested in stocking my candles in their shop(havent crossed the ts and dotted the eyes yet ) The first guy was at a craft fair and wanted glass container candles in the style of the yankee jars,i told him i didnt do those at the moment and then i was speaking to a lady in our town who has just opened a gift shop in town and is interested in my candles so i have an appointment with her tommorow hopefully she'll like wot i do but she was telling me about how she uses Yankee candles at home and approached them about stocking there brand but wanted a min order of £1500 to open her account!! She want something that looks like that but smells and burns amazing!!! So now im tempted to try them after all if the demand is they you do it dont you??? There is no one near me who does this type of candle but a yankee store opened up in the main town 20 mins away a year or so ago and is really popular. It would mean starting all over again and hoping that they dont find someone else to supply them before mine are ready. I was thinking maybe if i worked hard i could have them tested and ready for when the xmas shopping starts. What would you do??? Where would you start? Could i still use parrafin wax or would i have to change to soy wax to get a better scent throw?? Sorry guys so much in my head and noone else understands the world of candles like you all do!! Bless u! I rebooked the one i did @the weekend for the xmas one at the end of nov!!! Didnt really do any candles last xmas because i was moving house and business and had no time i think ill start searching and see what they did last xmas! Im thinking i might try some jars but i havent decided yet. I guess it wil be purples,reds greens and trditional xmas smells.:undecided

forgot that you get colouring dyes in the kits also (in response to your other thread!!)I think they are about £12.00 a kit upwards ,maybe check out the hobbycraft web site? Where in the uk do you live??

Out of the kindness of my heart the best advice i could give you is to see if an auntie or someone who is old enough to be able to help you with the tricky bits but like a friend could maybe help you find a kit from somewhere like hobby craft and have fun making some together, It will give you a moulds wax wicks and sterine. You can use the mould again and again if you look after it!! scents arent always what makes a candle nice, unscented ones can be just as pretty and if you are just starting its easier without. I know how you feel, i was mad about candles at your age too but it really is something that should be done carefully and safely. Why not find an adult who could help you with a kit and see if you like it, i know alot of people who started their hobby with a kit and added bits from there. And some of them who thought they would love it ditched it after a few attempts!! Good luck and be safe with what you do:wink2:

Didnt quite make the table back but it was a really quiet show,on the good side i was apprached by a guy about a new wholesale account! hope you do good at your craft show will be thinking of you testing and pouring all your new candles, make sure you let us know how you are getting on and it would be great to see some pics!! Still smiling, Just recieved an email about the wholesale account as he promised he would send which is fantastic not thinking he would get back to me!!! Hes very speccific about what he wants, it worries me slightly because he is basically aiming at the high end market and it sounds like he wants me to make some plain sophisticated pillar candles with a 'luxry' scent- Whatever thats classed as!! Thats the good bit he wants me to leave the candles as they are with no labels so he can do his own and also un packaged so that he can add his own. I know people do do this but it seems unfair if he gets the reputation for my candles when ive done the hard work??? His next request is candles poured into glass beakers/jars,which he wants to find himself and doesnt have a clue what hes looking for! There is no way im going to do that as it will all fall back on me if the container is wrong or unsafe. It will also take me all the testing and retesting which i dont think he understands? So although it would be great to work with this guy as his plans for my candles sound great and its not every day that you land a wholesale account that actually contacts you after showing interest, i think we have a lot of ground work to cover first and ive a feeling that im going to have to set some ground rules in a nice way about my do's and donts!!! I will update you all and thanx for your kindness, Oh and by the way the craft fair was okay,didnt quite make my money back on the table because it was so quiet but made so good contacts for now and the future. :smiley2:

well the first day is over and i survived,very quiet so hopefully it will pick up soon!! I made half of the table cost so for a quiet day it wasnt too bad,and just as all hope was failling i was aproached by a guy about wholesaling to him for a new shop hes opening and one of his websites!!!! Well i was grining like the cat that got the cream!!! Wont be needing a coat hanger in my mouth to get me too smile in my sleep 2nite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So im hoping things will be just as great tomorrow and cross my fingers on opening my first proper wholesale account!! Not bad for a 2nd craft fair and i wasnt even looking for any accounts. I think better things happen to me when im relaxed and not so bothered, Like the last party i did and i got two confermed partys and a better than average takings, Will update you all tomorrow, Thanx guys x:yay: :yay:
