  1. Paypal has a shipping calculator. that is where Im stuck. paypal sent me instructions that are so technical I cant understand any of it. shipping calculator looks simple you can choose to charge by weight, item or dollar amount of purchase. Not sure if I put in buy weight lets say, how the cart knows how much items weigh. and also some packaging goes up to 70 lbs but will only fit like 1.5 lbs of my product so that wont work It's supposed to be easy to set up and then when someone orders you just print shipping label right from paypal, but the shipping calculator doesn't make sense to me. Flat rate boxes are what I was going to use but you need different sizes for different products. Also I have alot of customers that wont need shipping cause the will be picking up orders from me.
  2. maybe I have to include shipping in cost of each item?? anyone out there have a website?
  3. I have just set up my website (soap/ candles )thru weebly and am integrating paypal. I am now at the shipping calculator and have to put in shipping amounts. I suppose using weights to figure shipping is best. I have no clue how to do this...do I have to weigh each item...not really sure how to contemplate what customers will order and how to figure how much a package will weigh. I do have flat rate boxes but really at a loss here. Please help thanks' Kathy
  4. thanks I will check it out PAgirl89
  5. Nice! ...please share with me where is the shop button to add...do I need to sign up for paypal first and if so please explain...thanks so much.
  6. How do I add shop now to my facebook fan page?? So new to all this. thanks:)
  7. All i see is oils and butters with emulsifiers ...I didn't see water as and ingredient on the smooch product..... Myself...I use straight olive oil on wet skin. avoids all the formulating and essentially water is moisture. oils help to draw moisture in and make you feel supple... for me I like the simplicity of just using an oil and I mean just a couple drops is all u really need and use that on wet just showered skin Soap will not moisturize your skin ...different recipies can be less drying to the skin but the oils transform into soap with some maybe left when superfatting but not enough to moisturize your skin. if did it would be mushy ...like a scrub Maybe you should try a pure castile soap that has no coconut oil...the coconut oil adds bubblage and is the most drying oil ...pure olive oil soap is extremely gentle on the skin It will take a few days or a week for your skin to notice the change.
  8. http://www.elementsbathandbody.com/Malibu-Bottles-c-116.html they carry 4 oz but you could call them and see if they can get you your 1 oz.
  9. ok i'll just say that if you use a good handmade soap or Natural melt and pour is good too, you can virtually avoid the winter itch. A nice emulsified scrub with sugar as exfoliater is nice...I have a recipe here somewhere on this board. leaves your skin feeling soft and moist. There is a process when making such things like scrubs, lotion body butter etc. Do you have a recipe for what you are wanting to make?
  10. I don't make liquid soap but I do use dr bronners to make foaming hand soap with added silk and jojoba oil. Can I sell the soap this way along with a foamer bottle with instructions on how to make their own or is that just wrong??...Feels wrong ...but it is the best soap to use that I have found for foaming hand soap.
  11. Noe I dont carry a seperate line ...I am small though..I do make a face scrub that is good for acne even thought Im not able to say that.
  12. Thanks for the info...Very helpful mychellac. I did see a post on wsp forum that says to add preservative to distilled water. like to the gallon and use as needed... so you would be figuring that for the amount of water added To start with... I will do as you suggest and do 8 oz lotion and add water with .5 % LGP. based on water added. thanks again. I am just thinking that if some newbie would have taken that info to not add preservative when adding water...that could potentially be big problems with that lotion:shocked2:. Anywho... Off I go to play with this stuff.
  13. I just emailed WSP to ask if I add 50% water to their Satin & Silk lotion base ...what preservative do I need or would be best. WSP RESPONSE YOu really don't need a preservative if you are just adding water, color and fo I also asked if I was to add just butter(shea or cocoa) to the base How much could be added and does it need added preservative. WSP RESPONSE If you are adding the shea butter, you will need a preservative. The precentages are on the preservative page[/b] OK , Ive been making soap and scrubs for longer that 5 years now and I know anytime you add water to something it needs a preservative and WSP site for this lotion in the description says..... Quote " If more than 5% additives are incorporated into the base, the current preservative system will be diluted and additional preservative will be required. I did find my answer in their forum that 20% water can be added without separation and the water should be preserved with Germaben II or germall plus llquid at .5%-1% reccommended by their moderater of wsp forum. Am I crazy? Still not sure bout the shea butter... I suppose if i only add 5% or less is should be fine...again I thought if adding oils/butters that it didn't need preservative unless water would be and issue. Correct me if I'm wrong.
  14. oh ya big booboo there it would be 11.70 cause i would charge times 3 for the box luminous i will check out papermart in a few thanks
  15. I am getting ready for a craft show and it seem that things have gone up in price...I think if my figures are right i need to charge 1.50 - 1.70 per votive depending on packaging. Also, I need packaging ideas...I currently use boxes but only for my returning customers and they return the box for more so I don't charge the .50 it cost me...but for a show i will need to ...so price of votive will be like 6 boxed for 18.00 ,,,yikes!! What are you all charging for votives Jar candles too are more ...dang I was charging a nice 5.50 for a 8 oz mason jar candle that actually has 6.50 oz of wax in it....that has gone up to bout $7.00 is what I need to charge for a candle. Or am I just behind the times here??
  16. I guess no one has tried this so im gonna do a few test candles today and ill post results here tomorrow. Well first candle with htp 104 wick/ 8 oz mason jar and soy whipped topping only burned down the middle so i guess wicking is my first issue to attack before I decide how to whip the wax. Wick suggestions would be great...I can only order one size up as that would be the largest htp wick.
  17. I make 100% soy wax container candles in 8 oz mason jars...I want to add a grubby topping to the candles ( just for a change) I wondered , Do iIneed to add something to the wax to get it to work May be stearic ? I tried to do it today with just the soy wax and it looks ok but too crumbly and soft. I may try to put it into a baggie and do sort of a swirl topping instead if i cant get that grubby look. Any suggestions? Thanks
  18. thanks all and I am keeping it this way for now and putting a weatherproof on the front with it printed to look like kraft paper or as close as possible...i do have 100 or so kraft circle labels to use up so that is the plan for now and since you all like the looks of it so well i will keep it. thanks again soo much
  19. Funny you say a teenager...i have one living with me now...my daughter but she wont lift a finger to help me with any of it I guess I feel less motivated since i moved my workspace downstairs. basement is just not the same as being able to see outside maybe...i don;t know but everything I need is down in one place which makes finding what I need soo much easier..but it is better to not have the mess up in my main kitchen. Ok I think im rambling now. I did have my son come over and do some work on his off days but he is back to work now so he's out and such a good worker too...dang. I get the partner thing ...i feel like I have put years of work into what I have created and I really cant trust that someone else could appreciate that or do thing the way I do. On the other hand It would be nice to share some of the work to take a bit of pressure off. thank for all the suggestions... I think my daughter in law would be a great business coach...on occasion she has talked to me and I have used her suggestions...she has some good ideas as far as marketing. She gets products at cost for now just for helping me set up or label like once a year but now she works nights and sleeps during the day ...hmmm
  20. No I need help with other things as well like labeling some computer stuff little things and possibly help with home parties and sawing sanding etc. My friends are busy with their own lives and or working too...no one available ...the only people i know that are home are inlaws and not sure they will do as i ask cause they are opinionated and never let ya get a word in so dont think they fit the part. I put an email out there to all I thought would be an asset and no one is willing or able to work for just free stuff.
  21. ok I've been making and selling soap and candles and a few other items for a few years...i feel like I need a partner to help get things moving...it would be nice if my husband was willing... but so far he is not and he is too snotty with me for me to work effectively with anyway. I could use a man though for some of the sawing ...making certain art projects and such. So I am not sure how to even go about finding a partner. how do I pay them? Family members wont get involved cause they don't want any bad blood between us...cause that could happen I suppose. Or do i just keep it Solo? Solo is not keeping me motivated. I had my daughter in law help for one particular sale and she was somewhat of a help but mostly it kept me motivated to get products made etc. Any advise would be super thanks
  22. Can you tell me what you have tried from them and your review on it as far as feel and how it performed etc thanks so much I am also looking at their shampoo so if u have tried it let me know how it performs thanks again texasbrat
  23. i put one 112 oz in cart just to see shipping ...thats about a gallon and shipping was 16.44
  24. checking out your links tracey11474 thank you ...i think i may order samples of a few things from them.
  25. I read the reviews on that base and others say that is is not sticky I am wondering how much water you put in it and how you mix it ? I added lots of water even wetted my hands after i put the lotion on and still it was very sticky...i m thinking maybe they sent me the wrong base. I purchased the satin & silk lotion from wsp and I have been using it for three years now my customers love it ...I would like to change to something more natural though
