  1. I did get the name of the school and she got my info from the chamber of commerce.
  2. That is what i was afraid of, that i said sure, but that was BEFORE she told me it was $200. It wasn't until almost the end of the conversation that she told me it was $200 then i ask for more info. What i expected was to get some sort of contract defining what i was getting into. I didn't think a verbal agreement means anything either. i hope not. But again i said yes before she told me the price. It was a weird phone call to, she acted so interested in how i made the candles and for a minute there i thought she was someone local (the number on my cell phone was a local number and i tired to call it back but no one ever answers, but no i did not write down the date i tried to call them) trying to get out of me how i make my candles. i mean she was asking about the process, where do you get your jars from, how do you scent them, how did you get started......i was getting suspicious. But then at the end bam! oh and it will be $200. I was like whoa, i think i would like some more information and they verified my address and said it would say on there where to send what ever ad i wanted to use in it but all i got was a bill with their website on it. Again the website only has an 800 number on it. But no i did not try to call them. i thought it was a scam. The next letter i got was another bill and the calender with my picture, and phone number on it. I never give out my phone number, just me email address. (by the way, they got that info from yet another mistake from the local chamber of commerce. i told them that i did not want my number or address printed and they said no problem and of course my address and personal phone number is printed in the chambers directory for ALL to see! But it is already printed and there is nothing i can do about that! ) God, i hope this does not turn into some nightmare. I think i will write up an offical sounding letter stating that i said yes before they told me the price and then afterwards i asked for more information, and that i did not agree to have the picture put up there, and my number listed, and i did not sign off on anykind of proof what so ever, i think i will cc it to the Better Business Bureau. hopefully that will scare them.
  3. Thank GOD! I was so worried. If they really are a business they are a bad one. Who sends out an print ad without getting people to sign a proof and NEVER gave them any picture to use anyways.....uHHH! i am so mad now. It is just ugly, most of the pictures are fuzzy, it is just terrible. Should I write the fact that i submitted a claim on BBB against them and that i did not sign anything or should i just continue to ignore them?! I am for sure not going to talk to them on the phone!
  4. This company called me saying they represented one of the local schools around here and wanted me in their sport calender. So i said sure at first but then she tells me its $200 for the ad...and i said well why don't you send me something first. So she sends me a bill for $200. I look up their website and they only have a phone number, no info on who they are, just that they have been in business for 8 years blah blah blah, not even an email address. I called the number that was on my cell phone but no anwering machine or anything. So i ignored it. I look back now and see that should have not ignored it. But now they send me this calender with some picture they took from my website, my PERSONAL cell phone number, and my website, (and the city is spelled wrong too) with another bill for $200. I wrote cancel on it and scanned it and emailed it back to them telling them they did not have permsission to use my pictures. Then someone called me and said they got my email unfortunatly on this date you said yes over the phone and the ad had already been printed so you are being advertised....please call with any questions. WTF? Do i have to pay? I did not sign anything saying i wanted to advertise with them. They did a crappy job too, i called the school to see if that is who they use for their calender but could not get anyone so i left a message. I called the person in the ad next to me and she did agree to be in the calender so i guess it is real. I looked them up on the BBB and they have an unsatifactory rating with a lot of unresolved complaints. I filed a complaint with BBB but what should i do now?
  5. Yes, that are going to pay me first. I have to call the cards in after craft fairs anyways. I only have the manual credit card machine, so it does not seem that much extra to me. So i can make a seprate credit card slip. I don't know if i would lose business but i know accepting credit cards has helped me at craft fairs and people have bought more becuase i take credit cards. Thanks
  6. How do you accept credit cards for fundraisers? I have not room to put it on the brochures, can i just print out silps that i made up on my own for them to sign? I have seen business that take fax orders just have it at the bottom of their order form. You just fill in the info and write you credit card number, expiration date, address, and sign. Can i do that?
  7. I Know! i could not find a 1/2 lb white bag with a window. That mean lady did have a good suggestion. to put paper in the bottom so the melts will show more. Thanks!
  8. Hi, I did o.k. It was a very small church craft fair. I guess you can say i made 4x what i paid but keep in mind it was only $20. I have done bigger fairs and done well too. The whole wickless thing is new. I get a lot of questions like how can you have a candle with no wick? So it is a great conversation starter. I get a lot of stares at my banner and then that is when i start my spill. Most men think you light it like a sterno.
  9. I know, she was pretty abusive. The weird thing was her daughter and husband were so polite. Her husband keep asking "grandma" if she was alright and if she wanted to go look around, he offered to push her around to look at the other crafters...he was very nice. i do not know how she ended up with him.
  10. This was a last minute craft fair. It went o.k. See the "grandma" story in the business section. http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?p=578878#post578878
  11. I did a small church craft fair this weekend and had the pleasure of being next to the most obnoxious, rude lady ever. Not only was she loud and abrasive, she parked "grandma" right in the middle of the walkway between us. Thereby scaring off any customers that may have wanted to look at my candles at the end. Poor "grandma" was 93 years old! And she keept picking at the scabs on her face She kept complaining that it was cold and that she wanted to go home. The lady keep telling her she couldn't leave her a home because she would end up on the floor. Then she would say mean things to her in her ear, the mean ladys whole face would go red, she was obviously so disgusted with her. It was very sad. I had one of my warmers on and it filled the whole room with scent but every time someone came over to see what scent it was or to look at my candles she would say "oh yeah, i smelled it at first to...but i don't even smell it anymore" very loudly too. I wanted to knock her out! she had the worst jokes, she kept telling everyone who came by her life story of how she is closing her store down and that she has been closing her store down for two years now and that she is selling everything for $10, but don't tell anybody...it is a secret! ha ha ha ha....like that was actually funny. aaaaawwww!!! I could not wait to get out of there. At least the next day she parked grandma inside her booth and she was a little better the next day. At least she stop commenting on my candles. thanks for letting me vent. Here is a picture of poor grandma....she looks like she wants to knock my candles down. :undecided
  12. What do you think guys? I have most of them done just working on the gift baskets. looks so much better huh?

  14. Hi Darbla, The one i bought was from the candlesource as well. The other one was a candle i bought from Bizzysb but i do not know where she got her fo from and the other one i can't remember. sorry. I can't imagine adding vanilla will make it any worse. lol
  15. Really?! Thanks! I was just trying to think of a way to sum it all up and i remember a person walking by giving me a hard time at a craft fair because you could not have a candle light dinner with my candles. And i said no, you can not becuase there is no flame but it is all scent. :rolleyes2 isn't that funny how things just come to you.

  19. I still offer my 16 oz on my website but yeah i no longer have them ready made in stock or take them to shows. Too heavy and they did not sell well. But I can still make them if they want.

  22. you know, i don't know what i am getting by being a member. every time i try to look for an article it says "coming soon" or it is dated 2001? And the magazine will not be published until further notice....i has links to her previous magazines but you can't actually read them. You have to buy the back issues. I offered a discount so i can be put in the area where members offer discount to other members, and i think maybe that is what she wants to talk to me about. She has a blog, newsletter, and radio show but i am not good enough to be any of them...The HBU sounds interesting but i can not afford the $200. I am only a member becuase it came with the insurance.
  23. sorry to bring up old stuff but is genwax and nature with love are the only one who carry it? I am so bummed that loren does not carry it anymore.
