  1. i am using igi 4630, the max fo in this wax, and lx series wicks. I know you are supposed to trim 1/4 of a inch right? I swear i am trimming 1/8 or else i get soot like crazy. And now the wick is like shredding at the top and makes the sooting worse. i already have visible soot on my ceilings even though i just moved here 3 weeks ago. (Although i do burn several candles at once) Am i doing something wrong i don't think i can trim much more with out the candle going out. Just looking at that line of soot and flickering flame makes me want to cough and switch to soy.
  2. i guess lonestar is the only one that sells these? What do you guys use to trim your wicks and what do tell your customers to use?
  3. Does anyone know where to get the wicksnippers at an actual store like walmart or micheals? I have seen them at lonestar but the shipping is as much as the scissors itself.
  4. Jill, why didn't LX work well for you? I am experiencing a lot of mushrooming but i thought that was part of the LX. I have gotten a lot to work in my 16 and 10 oz apothcary jars.
  5. Country candlemaker, i am glad it is working for you. it gives me hope. i am using the 4630 but i am just starting out so wicking is hard for me to begin with. but i am getting the hang of it. What wicks are you using? I am using the lx.
  6. maybe more like this. How do you make them. I would think you would use the hard wax that is used for hurricanes? I would be cool in black. that would be cool for halloween too.
  7. Do you mean these? this is from http://donitahoyer.com/
  8. I have heard some people talk about putting their fomula or recipe on disks and the computer and some have index cards. But what exactly is a formula? Is it like this: Blueberry scent from candle source 16 oz jelly jar (11 oz of wax) IGI 4630 wax LX 22 wick 4 drops of blue dye heat to 180-185 and add 10% FO pour at 165 is that a formula? And you do one for EACH scent and EACH different container that you use that scent in right?
  9. it is funny how when we make our own stuff we think of them as mistakes and everyone else loved them. I like your crackle too! How do you do that. That won't break while trying to burn it?
  10. I have heard of soy need to cure but does regular paraffin need to cure that long too? I am using IGI 4630 and candle source scents.
  11. WOW! Even my crappy ones are better than that. I bought a yankee candle last chrismas and i was sooooo disapointed. I don't know what all the hub bub regarding yankee candles are. They suck. Hardle any scent throw for a clean linen scent.
  12. Really? I have been poking as soon as the top sets and i just keep poking because it is still liquid underneath and i read that you need to keep the holes open. And that is not working like i said it still sinks deep with the holes. So i will try not to poke until it is pliable. Thanks for the info! (I have heard of people waiting until it cools completly to do the second pour. Is that right too?)
  13. when i said looks i meant what poking relief holes looked like. I know it doesn't have anything to do with the actual look of the candle. my relief holes just don't look like the picture in the instructions part. My pillars still sunk a lot even with the relief holes. I just don't know if i am doing the relief holes right? That is what i meant. Thanks Amanda
  14. Thank you i will try that. I am just not very good at poking the relief holes. At least i do think they look very good. Maybe i should keep practicing with smaller pillars first! LOL Thanks.
  15. i am going to make a 6x6 pillar. Since it is 6 inches and 3 wicks do i just do 3 LX 18 (3" - 3.25") or should i be using something bigger. I wanted to burn the acutal candle and not do the tea lights thing. I will be using IGI 4625. Does anyone have any warnings or suggestions before i take the plunge!! (I heard of mixing the fo and color in the presto pot instead of 2 pouring pots. i think i will try that. ) Also do you poke relief holes like anyother pillars? I am so excited i can't wait to get my mold from lonestar.
  16. Hey Thanks Shelly!, I can't wait until i am ready to start my website!! I am all about the DIY. That is why i am looking up photos for the scent part woo hoo! Thanks for your help too bizzy! Amanda
  17. I actually did a search first and i did not find what i was looking for. I would like to find photo stock. With all the drama on this board regarding photos i just want to make sure i buy them legitamaly (SP?). Any one know of any good link where i can use the photo to SELL my products. A couple of site will let you use them for free but you can not use them to sell your products.
  18. on the avery web site i found the avery pro limited. Is that the same thing?
  19. LOL That was funny. i never thought of looking up curing. Thanks!
  20. Bev, did you get that number when you got your business license?
  21. Thanks mona but i have an EIN number and my understanding is that it is when you have employees, which i do not yet. But some one told me that when you apply for you business license you will get a business tax id number with that. And then it is up to you to pay your taxes monthly and charge your cities sales tax and such...
  22. you burn a candle right after pouring it? (after it solidifies) Just asking...no particular reasons
  23. I would say that you can use anything that isn't a container wax for tarts. You could also just put you left over wax in a warmer and skip the tart making process all together...but i know what is the fun in that?
