  1. If you're just going to sell the candles at local craft fairs you don't have to have any kind of license unless you're going to charge tax. Then you'll need a tax exempt number. For soaps and stuff you'll have to have the long drawn out name for all your ingredients and you'll have to list them all on the label with some kind of warning saying if you have any irritation discontinue use. Look in the archives for health. Goodluck!
  2. I don't see why you couldn't use those little pumpkins. I think that would be cute! Maybe pour at a cooler temp? Goodluck!
  3. This is a good place to start. There is a recipe link for body and bath products. Start searching in the archives and you'll find just about anything you need to know. Plus, buy some books about what you want to make. Barnes and Noble is invaluable!
  4. Sounds like you need to take her to the dermatologist. I have exema and he prescribes beta methasone valerate 1.0% and it does wonders for me. My skin gets itchy and dry and cracked and this stuff I swear by! Good luck!
  5. I know how you feel too silvermoon. I've asked questions before that maybe the pros know but I'm just starting and I don't know anything so I ask a question and everyone jumps on me saying to go look in archives blah blah blah. Well excuse me for asking a simple question. It makes me not want to ask any questions because you're afraid of the responses that you'll get. I don't like getting yelled at so most of the time I don't ask. I thought this was an advice board. LOL But there are some really nice people in here so stick with it.
  6. What do you mean "it sounds like a plant"? So you're calling me stupid?
  7. No question is a stupid question unless it's one that is not asked. That said, a tart is like a candle but has no wick and you put it in a tart burner (either tealight heat or electric heat) and it melts and smells your house up good. Hope that helps.
  8. Thanks Rachel! I was just discussing that kind of link with pamperme and here you have the answer!
  9. I love this idea!! Count me in. You might even want to keep track of how each kind of candle you make is made. What ingredients, fo's, price of that stuff so that you'll know excatly how much you have in each candle. I LOVE it!! I would love to test it too. We need more innovative people like you! Thanks for the great idea.
  10. Wookie130 - What kinds of jars and wicks did you use? And also, what kinds of problems other than it being gooey did you encounter? I can't wait to use this wax! I'm so excited!!
  11. Thanks to you all! You've been a great help. I know it must seem like us newbies ask stupid questions or that we're not willing to search but sometimes we don't know the best routes so thanks to all that answer these posts and don't complain!!
  12. Thank you pamperme! I didn't know that there were so many rules about it. I just bought a jar of bath salts from Cracker Barrel and the only thing they have on their label is the ingredients. Do you have to put a warning label on there? Also, where do you get the technical names of the colors like red#3? I appreciate your help!
  13. Awesome!! I hope my first ones are like those. Keep up the great candles!!
  14. Thank you so very much for replying! I appreciate it!!
  15. Hi all. I haven't made any b&b products yet but I plan on making some bath salts and maybe sugar scrubs. My question is do you have to have some kind of health warning label or something on it to protect yourself from all these lawsuit happy people? I mean, I would hate to be sued just because someone used my product in a way it wasn't meant to be used and then sue me for it. Also, does salt scrub spoil? Thanks!
  16. Come on people. 41 of you have looked at this post and nobody can answer? Please somebody answer this post.:undecided
  17. I agree with you Donita! You do deserve to make money on your skills. It's just like any other job. You get paid for your skills so you go girl! I just might be one of your tutees! LOL:D
  18. Hi all. I am going to start making candles and bought 35 lbs of the comfort blend wax for containers from Aztec Intl. Does anybody use this kind of wax and if so is it a good wax? If not, is there better wax out there I should be using? Also, what kind of wax is the best for pillars and votives. Thanks for the advice! Wish me luck.
  19. What kind of problems are you having with your wicks and jars? Maybe the manufacturer of the wicks can help you. Goodluck. Now I know what I have to look forward to when I start pouring. Yikes!!
  20. I like those labels. Simple and clean. Did you print them yourself? If so, did you use an inkjet or laser jet?
  21. I just got back from vacation in Gatlinburg, TN and on the way we stopped in Knoxville. We went to Aztec Intl and I got 25 lbs of their comfort blend wax for jars and 10 lbs of some other wax. I haven't used them yet but intend to shortly. I also got some jars too. They're pretty good on prices too. Try them. The lady that works the front counter is so helpful. Goodluck!!
  22. Hi again! It's the newbie pest. I have a question on glass. I saw a cute amber colored stemmed glass with a candle in it at Kohls and was wondering if this sort of glass is safe to use with candles. I don't have a picture of it but it looked like a regular stemmed water glass to me-kind of thin glass. That gave me an idea to look for my own stemware but as I said before I'm not sure if it's safe and I don't want glass exploding on anybody. Thanks a bunch and sorry if I'm posting too much.
  23. That sounds good to me...And it'll save your labels that you already have. You can just add to the name right?
  24. Thank you all so much for your help. I knew I came to the right place. I found them on Laura's site. Thank you!!
