1. They really are beautiful and the carved hearts are amazing!!!
2. I would think a hardware organizer would work great if you have alot of different wick to keep track of. I also read a tip somewhere that you can color code the tips of your wicks so if they get mixed up you can still tell what type it is. I think they just swiped the tip with different colored markers.
3. Thanks so much, I really appreciate the encouragement. Hopefully in a few months I'll be able to post something a little more eye-pleasing.
4. The colors are awesome! Good luck with Ernesto.
5. I finally had a chance to make my first candle Saturday night and WHAT a disaster. It all started with the mold. I only have 1oz samples of FO but the mold I bought needed almost 2lbs of wax. I decided to make a smaller candle in the large mold because I really wanted it to smell good and I really wanted to make a candle! The first thing I did was prime my wick and then I threaded it through the mold then started to screw in the wick screw and snapped the end off the wick! After doing that twice I finally got my mold rigged up. I decided to use candy corn FO and use my orange dye block (don't have a lot of supplies yet). Well ,my son came in and started looking at the sunflower dye I had and ended up setting it right next to where I was working. You guessed it, I put the sunflower in instead. Well if that wasn't bad enough, I decided to add a little black to darken it up (not the best idea I've ever had). You would think after all that the bad luck would be over. After all the only thing left is to pour the candle and let it set up, right? NOPE! I was so excited about seeing my ugly candle that I tryed to pull it out of the mold too soon and pulled the wick right out . I rethreaded the wick went to put my wick tab on and I couldn't even find them. This is one of the ugliest candles I have ever seen. This picture actually makes it look better but for some reason I just love it! I LMAO every time I picture myself Forrest Gumping it around the kitchen and thought you guys might enjoy it too. I always wondered what perfect candle everyone made that got them hooked on this but now I'm guessing it was probably more of a determination to get it right. More supplies are on the way as we speak!
6. Thanks Scented...you have been sooo much help. I bought it last night and now I'll be stalking the UPS tracking site until it gets here . I can't wait to start playing!!!
7. Thanks so much...I'll give it a try. Now I just have to train my eyes to see those tiny bubbles!!
8. I thought so to . Her candles were some of the first I saw on this board and they always left me in awe. I hope she comes back soon.
9. I have IGI 1379A and J223 in my cart at BCN as we speak so I can make some tarts. I was thinking of mixing these 50/50 or 60/40 and was wondering if anyone has an opinion about these waxes for tarts and how much FO they will hold .
10. LOVE the ones in the middle...they remind me of sunset
11. Thanks everyone Top...I forgot about the higher melt point . Is Flutterbye the person that said goodbye last week on the board? Scented...Will the heat gun melt the rustic look off?
12. Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the help. I was wondering if it might be the wax. Hopefully I can get some better wax on order from BCN this week. I bought this from Michael's to tide me over. Top - I'll try pouring at a little higher temp to see if it helps...Thanks!
13. I made my first candle this weekend and it has pin holes everywhere and tiny bubbles that didn't quite make it to the surface. (I'm going to post pics in the gallery when I get my camera back from my sister) I made it with 1lb Yaley wax from Michael's, 1t Vybar 103, dye block and 1oz Candy Corn FO from Bitter Creek. I heated my wax to 190 then added color and FO. I let it cool to 155 (wanted to make a rustic) and poured a little in the mold (didn't chill mold), sloshed it around and then poured in the rest. I let it cool on the counter at room temp. I've read that pouring too hot can leave pin holes but I poured cold so I'm not sure what I did wrong. Any advice is GREATLY appreciated. TIA, Kim
14. Hi Deb...I stumbled across this worksheet in my countless hours of surfing the web http://www.candlecauldron.com/cdlpricingsheet.doc HTH and good luck
15. Looks great! I love your logo.
16. Thanks everyone...I really appreciate all the help you have given me. I'm sure i'll be laughing at myself in 6 months for some of the silly questions I've asked but I really want to do well.
17. When melting your wax do you heat it to a higher temperature (around 190), add your color and FO and then allow it to cool or do you try to maintain the temp setting once you reach the pour temperature you need.
18. This is a little off-the-wall but Candlewic has a crystal clear pillar wax. It actually looks like glass. Maybe you could do something with that. I hope she's a very good friend though because it is EXPENSIVE!
19. Thanks. I've found bitter creek thanks to a couple of people on the board. It's a great site and close but I'm still unsure the best way to learn to make candles. I guess I should just jump in with both feet and have some fun
20. Hello everyone! I am having a terrible time trying to decide which wax I should start with (newbie). I want to make pillar/chunk candles but I can't decide if I should use a pre-blended wax or if I should start with straight wax and additives. I was thinking if I used additives it would help me understand how everything works and let me experiment but I thought I would get everyones opinion before I decided. If anyone's up to reminiscing about their newbie days I'd really appreciate it :smiley2: Thanks, Kim
