  1. I second the scents from creative illuminations. Only thing tho, for their strawberry, I actually use their strawberry jam. To me, this is the best strawberry. As for the concord grape, it does smell great, but to me, it reminds me of Bubbalicious Grape Gum. Yummmmy!
  2. When I want to suspend fish, I pour in layers. I'll do a first pour, let it set up...whip out my heat gun and heat it up just a tad so the bottom of the fish will stick in the "goo"...then do another pour and so forth. Might sound like a lot of work, but really it's not when you're doing a bunch of gel candles in one night. The gel usually sets up pretty quick when you pour it in small layers like that. HTH
  3. For my glass, I buy from Hobby Lobby in cases when they put them on sale for 1/2 off They have the 4 inch Ivy Bowls and the smaller Ivy Bowls that I use. Can't go wrong for $0.44 a piece!
  4. We're coming in Friday and staying til Monday too! Can't wait to meet everyone who is going!
  5. I finally get to go to a convention!! We're all registered, hotel booked, all set! I'll be attending the convention, while my husband, daughter, and my mom go shopping at the Mall of America. Wait...is that fair?
  6. I use the fish bowls, large ivy bowls, and roly poly's (that's what I call em anyways haha)
  7. Ditto that! I only use LP if I'm just doing a plain candle in a container..no embeds. Once I start using embeds, I use MP. And then depending on the weight of the embed and if I want to suspend it, I will use HP. Hope that helps!
  8. I'm not sure if there is a test or not. I second dropping Penreco an e-mail asking. I just know the difference now cuz I've dealt with the 3 different types for awhile and can tell by the feel (and usually the look) of it.
  9. I used to just drop it on the floor a couple times and then pound the crap outta it with a rubber mallet. Then threw my pieces in a rubbermaid tote. I have now switched to pellets. Which is no fun! No more banging the crap outta the wax
  10. I second that! Shoot, sometimes I gag at the scent/fumes and I've been doing it for 5+ years!
  11. I never soak my seashells or other embeds in mineral oil. I like the look of some bubbles. I vary up my bubbles tho by either pouring hot or cool. Here's a trick that I use: Set up your "scene", pour a layer of gel over the embeds/bottom...let that set up, then pour the rest of the gel. Just a trick I use to lessen the bubbles. If I want more bubbles, I just pour the whole candle right away a lil cooler.
  12. Hmm..good question. I think too many people might be afraid to attempt them and sell em. When I first started 5 years ago, there were 3 of us in my area that did gel candles. Now? Just me. I outlasted my competition cuz I rock! haha Just kidding. Sales went down for the others, but I stuck it out, added some other products to my line, and now I'm doing great. I get from customers "They're too pretty to burn" which is why I switched most of my candles over to forever candles. I agree with Vicky though...most of my customers buy them for gifts for other people. But, eventually, they do come back to buy something for themselves.
  13. Thanks Jean. I use Silkytyme a lot, and thanks for the other link too. But, I don't like those! hahaha I'm looking for something that actually looks like a penguin. I used to get Rustic's penguins.
  14. I haven't ordered from them, but have run across some of those same animals. They kinda suck for dipping. And the curly dog one...OMG..stay away...very far away from that one. I ditto buying from First and Main.
  15. I have been desperately searching the web for cute penguin figurines for my candles. Rustic Escentuals no longer carries what I was using. I don't want the glass penguins...cuz IMO they are all quite ugly. Does anyone know where I can find some penguins? Be it: porcelain, ceramic, resin, die cast, hard plastic..etc. Doesn't matter what it is made of since I do all of my figurine gel candles forever candles anyways. Thanks!
  16. MD is the only gel I use. Never used HD. When I ship my pies, I actually put wax paper over the top of the pie and tape it to the bottom. I've shipped out many pies that way (to my tester "mommy" friends all over the states) and they all arrived perfect.
  17. Here's a tip for your foam: Mix gel w/paraffin...let it cool and get a crusty like layer on top...then whip it and then add it on top of your beer candle with like a spoon. You'll get that "foamy" look.
  18. I second the Cherry Mist from AH. It is awesome!
  19. I get my UV from BCN. HTH
  20. No prob! I have the oven pie rack and I just love it for my display. Catches people's eyes!
  21. Yep. I found I have to leave them longer initially to start otherwise I won't get a good burn pool going or a good flame. After burning it for about 4 hours, then I trim it and I have had no problem with them burning after that.
  22. If you haven't found one yet, check out www.silkytyme.com And they sell them on ebay for quite a bit cheaper. Here's the link for that: http://cgi.ebay.com/Oven-Pie-Rack-Multiple-Pie-Rack-Holder-Gift_W0QQitemZ110005404989QQihZ001QQcategoryZ46283QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem
