  1. ooohhhh all of those sound yummy...I'll have a hard time narrowing down my list. Hey, would anyone buy a carrot cake scented fizzie?
  2. Making up a bunch of fizzie cupcakes...I'll be ordering FO's from NG since I need to place an order with them anyway. I want to keep the scents in the foodie / dessert / beverage category...just can't wrap my head around a sandalwood cupcake. :rolleyes2 so far this is what I have on my list: Pink Sugar (I could live without it, but it's sooooo popular) Toasted Marshmallow Buttercream Cupcake Lime Frosted Cupcake and ??? Anyone want to chime in with suggestions? I'd like really strong fragrances since they'll get diluted in water. Thanks!
  3. don't forget to follow proper procedures so you are making safe lotions. It's more than just adding a preservative. Lotioncrafter and The Herbarie have very good directions.
  4. I did a little research on the Lush jellies...instead of gelatin, they use a vegan gelling product made from seaweed. I think it's called agar agar (have to look again) and doesn't need to be chilled to gel. I guess our American jello is made from all types of animal parts...bones, hooves etc. (not sure about that though...just what I read on a bunch of vegan cooking sites). They won't use gelatin because of that. I only got as far as that...still have to research the other ingredients.
  5. Yes, the other way around would have given you an oil in water emulsion where the oil molecules are encapsulated inside of the water molecules. What you want for products that need to soak in fairly quickly...i.e. lotions and creams. The opposite, water in oil emulsions are for products that you want to mostly coat and sit on top of the skin...like sunscreens. I did a bunch of research about o/w vs. w/o emulsions because my lotions and creams were always too greasy for my taste and I kept trying cornstarch, dry-flo etc. to solve the problem. Once I discovered this and made the switch I was amazed at the difference. Of course you need a good recipe too!
  6. When you combined your water phase and oil phase did you drizzle the water into the oils while blending or pour the oils into the water while blending?
  7. As far as I know Lathanol LAL is a trade name for SLSa...looks like it's a registered trademark by the manufacturer. It is one and the same as SLSa.
  8. Too cool and fun! Hmmm...now has me wondering if it can be preserved???
  9. LOL...I'll take some too...that price is unreal! Seriously, let me know if you have extra and I'll take it!
  10. I never really followed through with my testing, but when I emailed MMS for advice they told me to start with half the amount of candelilla wax as beeswax...sounds like you might be on the right track to begin your testing.
  11. Welcome to your bath and body addiction! An emulsified butter (in reality a thick cream but sometimes called butter) will contain water and must have an emulsifier (many out there) and a preservative added since oil and water don't like each other for long and will soon start growing the dreaded mold and bacteria beasties. Depending on ingredients and method (oil in water emulsion or water in oil emulsion) they are generally less greasy than true butters. A whipped body butter is just a natural butter (shea, cocoa, mango or combos etc.) whipped up alone or with other natural oils and maybe fragrance. Some add preservative in case water is introduced... others don't since there is no water in the formula... I always add some vitamin e...it's not a preservative but can prolong the life of natural butters and oils before they turn rancid (aka stinky). Butter and oils are just that... they will have a greasier feel than well made lotions or creams and take a bit longer to soak in... good for the skin though. Check out the B & B recipe section...there are some awesome formulas there and google for recipes and techniques. It is a lot of fun to experiment and make your own!
  12. try googling for bakery or deli supplies. You might also just ask at a local bakery...they might sell you some or tell you where they get theirs.
  13. I personally don't like to use e-wax in my scrubs...just my opinion, but I think it contributes to some serious drain clogging. I use stearic and polysorbate 20 and lots of sugar...works like a charm for me!
  14. can't say what might be happening with your ewax without more info...can you post your recipe so we can help troubleshoot? If it's a good recipe, may be you have some bad e-wax. sorry can't help you with the lecithin issue...never used it you might try reading up on lotioncrafter.com or the herbarie.com for more info on it
  15. Early last year I answered a survey from NG asking for suggestions for new products. I suggested Sweet Orange and Chili Pepper FO. Several months later a rep from NG actually called to let me know that it would be added to the site soon...their perfumist was "tweaking the formula to make it a bit more chili peppery". Thought that was pretty cool. So I don't think it's the exact same FO as MC's but if it's as good that would be awesome. I order nearly all my oils from NG.
  16. I can't give you a comparison, never used it, but it would be helpful to know where you got the info and maybe what the generic trade name is?
  17. van, thanks for that info...I've read good and bad about doing that, but sounds like you are have great luck. B2B - I hadn't seen that ad...may have to check it out!
  18. online labels has the perfect size for print yourself. They are 1.9 by 2.5 and fit great!
  19. Ha, one yay and one nay. Thanks for your input. Carrie, I found your old post when you were having trouble with your HP 2600N. What printer did you replace it with? I'm debating a new one.
  20. Having to replace my catridges and the HP are sooooo expensive. Has anyone ever tried the HP compatible cartridges? I'm tempted because of the cheaper price...but sometimes ya get what ya pay for!
