  1. i purchased the wax from you all on Apr. 16 2006
  2. I try to contain myself as much as possble. I only allow myself to purchase 75.00 worth of supplies every pay period (twice a month) maybe more when commission comes in I try to master on thing at a time. I am new at candle making as well. I started with containers. That is what i am testing now. I want to get my formulas and such 100 % right before I move on to votives and tarts etc... If I try to concentrate on too much at one time I feel like im not giving 100% to each thing. Welcome to the forum. this place is as addicting as candle making itself!
  3. The candle probably has not cured yet. I take pictures of my candles while curing and then after and there is a huge difference in color. as far as the Fo sorry cant help with that
  4. I just got my domain name registered with Yahoo today! its already up and running. I typed in the ulr but it says that this site is under construction. my qustion is to those or u that do your own site, how hard is it set up yourself. I am somewhat familiar with HTML codes. I know nothing about CSS codes though. Where do you get your graphics and do you have to pay for them . If i decided to do this myself will i have to creat my own HTML codes? How do I get to the "back office" of my site to start doing work on it? Thanks guys!
  5. this may sound like a stupid question but when you guys warm your jars do you do it before the wick is put in or after???:undecided
  6. you order kits and make the candles yourself then sell them under whatever name you wish. I wouldnt recommend going that route if I were you. You can fins supplies much cheaper elsewhere. plus they want you to have people sign up under you kinda like a Mary Kay thing.
  7. i poured at 175 F yes this is your wax
  8. I started test burning a candle about 10 minutes ago. And there was a huge sink hole surrounding the wick that goes strait down the center. Its like the wax didnt ahear to the wick. you cannot tell this issue unless you burn the candle. What causes this and how do you prevent it. I dont want a customer to get a candle like this. 8 oz sware mason jar 70/30 blend wax rosemary mint FO Eco 8 wick Thanks
  9. For those of you that have your own website. I want to make sure that the name of my business is availible. I already checked it and it is. But I not sure what registar to use. Any ideas or referrals that you all can give me. I also was wondering what web hosting sites you used. I checke dout DIYstores ( they are too expensive for my buget) and I also checked out Wahmshoppers.com They are very cheap which makes me weary if im going to like the site or not. anyone else wanna share where they host from as well would be great the more research I do the better I can make my decision. Thanks
  10. Thats like a dream come true for me! i am so proud of you. its like you finally made it in the candle selling world!
  11. Thanks i get it now. Im looking up craft show in my area on Festivalnet.com This site is awesom but you have to pay to see some of the listings but not all of them.
  12. What is this....I have an idea I think its when you have to present your wares to a jury and they will decide if your product is worthy bof being at that show.??
  13. I will sell the candles that I have tested and had tested for me. By fall I plan to have at least two different size containers and 8 scents. I plan to have my logo desgned and businss cards ready to hand out. Maye even a website. I know, its a tall order, however I am very driven and i WILL accomplish all the above tasks by this fall and it wont be half assed either. I like to think that i have had good luck so far with my testing. All my fo's are thowing great. The only issue that I have had to deal with so far is finding a close supplier to save on shipping and wet spots (which by the way I have learned to love) I feel that I will be ready to go by fall to sell what I have tested so far. I dont care how long some people say you should test. Thats crap. its all about the dedication, time and effort that is put into testing. If you work 9 hours a day seven days a week of course it will take time to test before you can sell. but there are people out there that dont work and have 9 hours a day to make and test candles how do you know that I not one of them?? I would appreciate this topic to be closed and forgotten about....sorry or the uproar that i may have caused.
  14. I live in PA but about 5 minutes from MD as well so anything in those two states....thanks for your support I dont feel that i need to have 20 different scents and size jars to sell at a craft show. If I can get at least 5 scents and maybe two jar styles ill be fine...to start out with....and its not like im going to spend 100 for a booth and just sell my candles. I have a mother that makes stained glass and a friend that makes her own dried flower wreaths so we are going to go in with three of us. I just want to get the experiance under my belt. I am well aware that it takes a a long time to start selling. When I buy a FO I test about four candles ...different waxes, different wics etc. when I test a wick i test it against different FO's Different containers etc....so its not like im half assing my testing. anyways anoyone that has a listing or knows of a book that comes out with the listings in Pa please let me know I greatly apreciate it.
  15. wow that site is very very nice. I am a big fan of the minimal, classic look. It seems as though alot of people do the country look and thats great too but its nice to see someone do something different. I love the colors and the layout. I think that you are doing a great job! dont give up my dear
  16. ok to Itsmejeffd, I am really offended by your comment. What exacly does "here we go again folks" mean? I have been researching candles for four months is what I meant. There is so much information out there I didnt know what to buy etc. yes I agree that it is too early to sell. I want to visit craft shows and scope out my competition. If I can get a booth for a really cheap price im going to do it to get my feet wet. My mother does stained glass art and we were going to go halves of a spot. Even though I only poured my first candle last month, I have been pouring none stop ever since and I already have three "recipes" if you will ready to be made in bulk, already tested and 100 % approved. Thanks to this forum and all my research that I have been doing to the last four months has really helped me save money and time. I will definatly go to the school and see what i can come up with im also going to call the newspaper and see what they have scheduled to list for the fall. Thanks guys
  17. about 4 months new....i went to that site but thats the problem knowone is registering there shows on any web site
  18. hey guys I am new at candle making and i want to be prepared to do shows this coming fall. I cannot for the life of me get information on crafts shows in my area. all the sites that I have gone to do not show my area. I need to start registering and requesting off work. any suggestions as to where I can look or somewhere i can go and ask for a craft show schedule? The newspaper always has a listing but its too late by then.
  19. I bet its the dye because I get the blocks and I have to shave off chips as i need them and my scale is not that percise to measure such a small amount so i guess..
  20. what causes this? I use ECO 8 wicks and some of them mushroom but not all of them. just wondering if its something that i should try to prevent it or is it not that big of a deal because I like these wicks and they have good scent throw and good melt pools.
  21. My Ecos that I have testing in the 70/30 have been curling over as well. They say that these wicks are self trimming. I guess il just cave in and get sample packs of both. thanks guys
  22. im trying a new wick type. currently I have been using ECO 8 in my 8 oz. square mason jars. i have only tested a few candles and the scent throw is decent but i need to get more testing under my belt with different types of wicks. I was on Peaks site and they have a sample pack of there HTP's. problem is i doubt ill need half the sizes that they are going to send me. How does these wicks do in the GL 70/30 and EZ SOY blends? Before I waste my money and buy them, or should I try to find a sample pack with different types of wicks i.e. eco and htps together? thanks for the input
  23. I did not know that the ECO 's were self triming. I trim to 1/4" but I can guarentee you that I cant trim on the next burn I only have maybe a 1/8" of wick left after the first burn. and yes they are square mason jars
  24. I use Eco 8 wicks in my 8 oz. mason jars. every single one that I have burned tunnels. As soon as I light it it curles over. I burn the candle for 4 hours and when its done there is not enough wick there to trim for the next burn! Whats causing this problem?
  25. where can I get them. The chopsticks gotta go they arent working. Im ready to invest in one of these contraptions. Im tired of my melt pool being off center! How canyou test a candle with an un centered wick?? Does these wick centering things fit all size jars?
