  1. i know i asked this question before but its been a long time. I want to purchase soy drops. but the only supplier that has them is moonglow. they want at least $10 to ship ONE 4 0z. sample to me. CRAZY i tell ya! was just wondering iof anyone else knows who supplies these. I googled all sorts of things like "soy drops" or "soy beads" or "soy melts" and came up with nothing. I want to sprinkle them on top of my container jars for something different. here is the link to what i am talking about.... http://www.moonglowcandles.net/wax-soydrops.htm
  2. yeah i looked there. even have it book marked. i just cant understand some of the terminology
  3. I live in PA and Im alittle comfused as to what all needs done to operate business in this state. I have gone to some sites and tried to make sence of what I was reading but was wondering if someone could tell me in plain english what needs done before I start selling.. this is what I know and have I have a Federal ID # I know that I need to file a DBA I know that I need to fill out a PA 100 but have no clue what this is for . I am having a hard time finding information online about getting a business license. I need to get a ID # for Pa as well right. I am a sole pr. any help would be appreciated Thanks guys. a basic 123 step would be great. such as do this this and this and I can take it from there.
  4. Ill have to check with my mother. she is the one mentoring me on this whole business thing. I am so confused now. I got my tax ID # before anything else:shocked2: Hope thats not a bad thing. I am going to go tonight and register my DBA online and mail that out with my 70.00 check. THen I guess i have to call someone like the commissioners office to see about a business license??? i just want to do everything the right way. I was under the impression that registering my fictitouse name with the state of PA was considered my business license?
  5. I havent registered for a fictitiouse name yet. Thats what is 70.00, maybe im getting that and the DBA mixed up or maybe they are the same thing. This legal stuff makes me sick im an artist not a legal guru...lol
  6. those are porbably the nicest gel candles that ive seen in a long time. not too tacky and very eligant. good work
  7. Yes i have the subscription to that. Honestly i passed over that article till i started researching soaps and came across private labeling and it struck mu interest. I have a tax ID # and a domain name. THe only thing that i dont have is a DBA. i just cant drive myself to write a 70.00 check for this. even though i know that i have to some day before i start selling. the insurance i have not researched yet. i want to know exactly what im going to be selling first because Im sure the agent will want to know that information. I thought that a tax ID # was considered a liscense????
  8. I was wondering the same thing. Since I just placed an oder to have my label done. I think i have an inkjet printer? not sure its one that came with the computer. real cheap and slooooww. Is it a good idea to print my own labels with this type of printer. and also is it cost effective to print my own labels or have them printed or me cause the cost of ink is very expensive
  9. I would be very interested in a pricing sheet or something. I would like to have someone on this forum do my pics when im ready. I allready have bizzybee doing my logo
  10. I was doing some research on the web about possibly buying handmade soap wholesale to add to my candle business. I either want to do that or start making my own soap, but I really want to focus on candles for the time being. Ny question is I see alot about wholesale and private labeling. Whats the dfference???
  11. I ordered some Fo's from Peaks lastnight. I had to pay extra for 2 day select just so they would be here in time for me to start making this weekend. I have off saturday thru tuesday so ill be pournig candles all weekend and hopefully find some scents that will throw this time around. THe last batch of Fos i got from peaks didnt throw that well ,
  12. ok thanks guys. well m&p is out of the question. well, that was a quick experiment. I just dont like the look of them. I want to more homemade look. I guess ill have to research cp and hp soap making today at work. The smell wasnt from all the ingredients because the soap smelled like that as I was melting it in the microwave. I though the smell would go away as the soap cooled but it didnt. oh well. another doller another day. another test...lol...
  13. i just made my first batch of soap. i went out to michaels and picked up some m&p some Euc. leaves and some FO. I concocked my creations here is what I did...and mind you I measured nothing! just added stuff till I thought it was enough. First batch Avacado m&p base Euc. Leaves lavender Fo Second Batch Avacado m&p base oats chocolate powder for color and fragrance Third batch Avacado m&p base oats and chocolate powder mixed together Chamomile and Almond FO I have the soaps cooling on a rack right now. I poped them out of there molds about 1/2 after getting hard. They smell funny. They hardly smell like the Fo's that I used. I guess maybe its because its cheap michaels brand ??? I dunno?? Im really really scared to use them...lol... I dont want to smell like the soap smells now...lol. they look nice but they dont have that "handmade" texture that most soaps do. Is it because its m&p base??? or because I put then in molds instead of a wooden mold and cut bars???
  14. hey guys, so I went to Michael's today a got some supplies to make my first batch of soap. I bought 2 lbs. of olive oil soap base and 2 lbs of avocado base soap. I bought some Chamomile herbs and some eucalyptus leaves. I want to incorperate some goats milk and coconut milk in my soap. Can this be done. I went to the grocery store and tried to find some powdered goats milk but all they had was liquid. Can i still use this? And if so how much could I use for a 2 lb. batch? Thanks guys, cant wait to make soap. Ill post my results for sure when Im done!
  15. Yes this is true I am very critical of my own work. Thats what artists do right they critique themselves nuts! I make two of every candle so I can give one away to test. So thats what I'm going to do today.
  16. That could be the issue with the wick . i have an HTP 31 in an 4 oz quilted ball jar with 70/30 wax and peaks eucalyptus FO. The wick off centered which is beyound me because I used the wick setter and the little plastic things that hold it in place. anyways since the wick is off center it is burning uneven so its hard to judge the melt pool. But it looks like the melt pool is very deep almost to the middle of the jar after 2 hours of burning. So the wick deinatly has to go...
  17. it seems as though when I test a candle it smells really good the first hour or so. then The smell goes away. what could cause this??
  18. ok so I get paid tomorrow. Im going to purchase all I need to make some soap. i need some help/suggestions since this will be my first time ever. I have read all the posts on this topic so far and I cant remember everything so excuse me If I ask again.... I know that I want a wood mold, just plain and simple. I need a cutter...any suggestions here as to where the cheapest is? I want to use m and p soap base to start out. Im stuck on wether I should get the goat's milk or the oatmeal base. I am going to start out easy and get some baby oatmeal and run it thru a spice grinder to mix into the base. What do you all think? Goats milk or oatmeal base? Do you think that I will need to find an FO thats oatmeal (if they even make that) or will the scent from the oatmeal itself be good enough? Im not dyeing my soap EVER. Im an all natural hippy and want my soap to be the same way so dont have to worry about that. All the extras like tools etc. I can get a walmart no biggie there either. Am I missing anything??? If I am please tell me. Any suggestions as to what Fo i could use that will go well with oatmeal. I was thinking lemon or something fresh like peppermint oh and one more thing....how do I know how much fo and oatmeal i can put into a batch? how much does a regular box mold hold? So i know how much base to order for one batch? i was thinking of just making soap balls and skip the mold for now. They are so classic and great looking! oh and one more thing....where is the cheapest or best place to buy soap bases??? thanks so much for all you help! Im so excited to make soap!
  19. Thanks guys I cant wait to order. Rosemary, peppermint, shea butter, OH MY....lol:yay: THe possabilities are endless!
  20. If you think that you have the time to test a new jar before the wedding I would go for it. You never know how many people at the wedding are going to want candles. So you could potentially walk away with tons of new customers!
  21. i did. I know it seems alittle steep for four issues. But There are not alot of magazines out there at all about soap and candle making. I went to borders to try to find some books on candle making and they had NOTHING at all! i was shocked. so when i hear of a publication about this art I jump on it no matter what the cost. I think the distibutors know this too...lol...thats why they charge so much
  22. Hey Branda, I just went to your site. Those herbs that you have for sale, are they what you can mix into your melt and pour soaps?? If so how much do you know how to use and do I need to crush then up more before I mix them in???
  23. Ok this is going to sound really really newbie of me....but what does m&p stand for.???? melt and pour????....lol..oh geez:rolleyes2
  24. thanks thats great advice. Ill take that same candle to work today and give it to someone that I know will tell the truth. As for testing one thing at a time, that makes sense. Ill try to wick down first. I only buy 1 oz samples at a time so ill have to get more Fo If i want to test more. I have to wait till payday...lol
