  1. I use quite a few from Kathy as well. Her customer service is awesome and her shipping is incredibly fast. Off the top of my head: birthday cake, cactus & sea salt, strawberry, lilac, cinnamon caramel latte, creme brulee, satin sheets, brown sugar, and cranberry orange spice. I use ezsoy and these have always been strong in a couple of days.
  2. Texas Candle Supply has one called Mesquite Chili or something like that.
  3. I'm not filling them all the way to the top so it's not to much of an issue. I do use eo's as well. As far as the smoking, that's what's supposed to happen cause that's part of what gets rid of the bugs. I'm ok with the smoking, just worried about the size of the flame. I'll try to take a pic in a bit and post it. It's raining small animals outside right now and it's supposed to all day so I'll have to wait till it lets up cause I don't want to burn it inside unless I have to.
  4. Any idea how to wick these? I'm doing a lantern that's about 2 in at top and 3-1/2 in at the bottom. I'm testing the small citro wicks, but the flame is pretty large and making me uncomfortable. I don't think they'll work right if I use another wick. Any ideas?
  5. Grapefruit Cassis from Texas Candle Supply is out of this world. I use it in soy wax and sell a ton!
  6. Thanks so much! That's perfect. They ship USPS first class or priority which is what I was looking for. Thanks again, LisaW
  7. Anyone know what size shrink wrap bands I would need for 1 oz bottles with droppers? (Sorry, wasn't sure where to post this). Thanks, LisaW
  8. Hope this will give you a little encouragement. I started almost 5 years ago and did 25k in sales this year. I've NEVER borrowed a penny and have built the business from the ground up with a $500 personal investment. We actually turned a profit this year for the first time. We're starting wholesale shows this year to further build the business. It is possible to build a business without borrowing. It does take longer and more hard work, but way more satisfying and I don't have a loan payment to make. Hope that helps.
  9. Your best bet is to go to the Service Corp of Retired Executives (SCORE). Their website is www.score.org. They work directly with the SBA. They have free counseling and plenty of courses to keep you on track. They also have a course on writing a business plan and will help you write one. They also have email mentoring and will match you with someone who has been in the same business as you are in. Can't say enough great things about them. It's a great program. (they may advise against getting an SBA loan as you pay higher interest with this type of loan, most people don't know that).
  10. I've done it both ways and I sell WAY more with samples. I do clear tealight cups (no wick) and package them in 3x3 poly zip bags from gb bag (they're the cheapest). I print off an order form and put the whole thing in a zip bag (from the same place, but not the polypro, the cheaper ones, I think I used the 6x9 ones). It does take a while to pour and label and package all those samples, but it is so worth it for me. I do list a minimum order (1 candle per student) to make sure my cost gets covered. Like I said, I've done it both ways and sell 3 or 4 times more with the samples.
  11. I sincerely appreciate the attempts to answer my question. No one actually answered it so if anyone refills their laser toner cartridges for a Brother HL4040cn please send me a pm and let me know who you get your toner refills from. I appreciate any information shared. Thanks, LisaW
  12. Nope, it's not a typo. Sitting on my kitchen table right now (have to let hubby get it out since it's to heavy for me. BTW, Aaron, you can refill toner on a laser cartridge. You can do a search on line and there's lots of info.
  13. I'm finishing up my 4th year in business and it has been awesome! I'm over 30% over last years sales. I'll definately be more prepared for the fundraisers cause they kicked my butt (again) this year. Went from one to four! Will do less on the shows and narrow it down to the ones that I really do well at. Did way to many shows this year (something like 10). All in all, it was an amazingly successful year. Don't know why the media keeps saying the economy is in the toilet, it's great at our house.
  14. Anyone know where to get a good one. Just bought a Brother HL4040cn and want to get ahead on knowing where to get supplies. I always refilled my ink cartridges and saved a bundle. Thanks for any help. LisaW
  15. I do offline and download everything when I get home. If I don't have electricity I use a battery back up that I bought at Walmart for around $30-$40. Here's who I use: Max DeckerFirst National Merchant SolutionsRegional Sales Executive, Houston, TX281-252-0146281-259-9461 Faxmdecker@fnni.com Website www.firstnationalmerchantsolutions.comGreat rates, great customer service, and very friendly. On top of everything else I got my credit card terminal for free!
  16. Texas Candle Supply has an awesome one. Throw great in 100% soy at 6%.
  17. No, I'm saying just the bags from favormart.com are .20/each. I sell the sachets - with the aroma beads in them for $6. Sorry that wasn't clear.
  18. If you want to do one with eo's (which is what I do) you can do 1 part peppermint, 4 parts camphor, 4 parts eucalyptus, and a few small menthol crystals. Everyone loves this formula. I also do it in aroma beads and sell it in the sachet bags (10 for $1.99 at favormart.com) and they go like hotcakes! I get the camphor and eucalyptus from camden gray, but I get the peppermint (USA) from a garden eastward - the peppermint from camden was awful!
  19. Here's what I've tested lately and rate as a 5 on a scale of 1-5 Texas Candle Supply Plumberry Spice Blackberry Cider Cinnamint Lavender Lime Basil Frankencense & Myrrh Cool Citrus Basil Country Clothesline Grapefruit Cassis Apple Jack & Peel Cool Water Millcreek Banana Nut Bread Snowtop Peppermint ICS Orange Cranberry Spice That's about it. All threw awesome between 6% and 9% in 100% soy wax. Hope that helps somebody. LisaW
  20. I've read quite a few threads on this, but not one that really answered my question. I currently use tealights in 3x3 polypro bags to hand out to potential customers and give them out with orders. I was wondering if it's possible to just put a slice of wax in the bag and give them out like that. I'm a little concerned cause it's soy wax, but it would save a lot of money and make it so I could afford to hand out more samples to more people. Just wondered if anyone else does this.
  21. I'm using IGI 1260. Nothing stuck in it anymore. I used the heatgun and just melted it out. I'll try another one next week. First craft show Saturday so I'm hoping to do well and hoping to have to make a LOT of candles next week!
  22. I think I'm going to try that. The scratches are along the top. I was also using 1/4 teaspoon poly gloss per pound as per instructions from BCN. I was getting a lot of bubbles in the wax before I poured it. I'm wondering if that was also causing it to stick in the mold. I've got some UA and I may just go back to that.
  23. Ok, so I got a little impatient with a hurricane that wouldn't come out of the mold. I used a butter knife to try to pry the edges away so it would release. I've got some scratches on the inside. I'm thinking it's ruined, right?
  24. The only ones I found that are clear (no gloss) and thin are from Staples. The ones from onlinelabels are thick and if you're using them on something small, like roller bottles for lip glosses, they keep coming off. If you want to try some from Staples or buy the ones I have just send me a pm. LisaW
  25. Anyone know what the "normal" resolution is? Wanting to make sure my website is balanced to show up best on whatever resolution is considered normal. Hope that makes sense.
